May I reveal what I'd like to do before each weekend of college football...
Can You Do The Can-Can?
1. QB Matt Leinart and USC are traveling to Oregon to play the Ducks at Autzen, arguably the toughest place to play at in the country. Can Leinart, Bush and Co. hold off Oregon's swarming defense while be screamed at by crazy Duck fans. Can Oregon's QB Kellen Clemens keep his pace (65.6% comp, 955 yards, 8-0 TD-INT count) and muscle through all of the studs on the Trojans defense?
2. Again, two top ten teams face off when Tennesee goes to LSU. The could be, althought not likely, be a preview of the SEC championship game. Can Tennesse bounce back from a tough loss vs Florida and upset the Tigers? Can the LSU players pull together again and beat another ranked team?
3. The Ty-bowl. Who would have expect Charlie Weis, Ty Willingham's successor at Notre Dame, to appoint this matchup verses Willingham such a thing? Ty's move to Washington seems to be going pretty well, while Charlie started spectacularly and still is a sweet victory for Weis. Can Charlie's team, mostly recruited by Ty, pick up some intensity against their old coach and squander Washington's hope of an upset as they seemingly easily can? Can Ty complete the impossible and pull the same card as Michigan State did last week in ND's heartbreaking loss while getting their QB Isaiah Steinback to continue to improve?
4. In the battle of the (ranked) Techs, Virginia Tech hosts Georgia Tech. MinyVick has done well so far, leading VT to a 3-0 and #4 ranking start, as well as allowing 16 points on one touchdown in three games and shutting out their last two opponents. Meanwhile, GT hasn't exactly killed their three previous opponents (Auburn, North Carolina, Conneticut), winning by an average 10 points. While that is good against Auburn, NC and UConn are not at the top of the class as far as college football is going. Can GT step it up, pull the upset, and win what could be the deciding game for who wins the ACC's Coastal region? Can VT and Marcus Vick keep up the pace and shut down, shut up, and destroy GT to move one more step towards running the table?
5. Big game in the Big Ten this week. Michigan visits Wisconsin, both facing a fellow Big Ten team for the first time this season. This game could be big for both teams, seeing as that Michigan needs it to have a chance at winning the conference and Wisconsin to stay in the hunt The Big Ten has begun to prove its worth by having 4 ranked teams and no team with more than one loss. Michigan is still hurting from its loss to Notre Dame and faces its first other quality opponent this year. Can the youngsters duo of sophomores QB Chad Henne and RB Mike Hart get the stats they did last year and take this game where it should go, towards a victory? Can Wisconsin beat up on a Michigan team that has no significant losses but has high expectations for the rest of the year?
...only time will tell.
