NBA Rescinds Shannon Brown's Flagrant Foul on Casspi

A flagrant foul 1 given to Lakers guard Shannon Brown during the Lakers' 113-80 victory Friday over the Sacramento Kings was rescinded by the league Monday.

Moments after stealing the ball from Brown, Kings guard Omri Casspi went in for a layup but Brown's foul with 8:34 remaining sent Casspi to the floor.

According to NBA rules, a flagrant foul 1 is given for "unnecessary contact" and gives the opposing team two free throws and possession. A flagrant foul 2 considers the foul having both "unnecessary and excessive contact," resulting in an automatic ejection as well as the two free throws and possession for the other team. Accumulating two flagrant foul 1s in the same game also results in an automatic ejection.

**** Shannon Brown, he just tried to injure Casspi. You don't tackle a man on a break away when you are winning by 30.

Damn straight it was a hard foul, good call.

I hope Brown gets a fine for that.

Haha this gets rescinded yet Brian Cook got a two game suspension for for half-a**ting a push against a Portland Trailblazer last week.

if that wasn't "unnecessary contact" then I guess I don't know what it is. Might just as well make tackling a shooter legal. It's not like he was going for a block or a steal.

Just another example how Stern has his head fully up the rear of big market teams kissing their behind. In stead of doing what is right and fining the player for obvious excessive force, they in stead recind the initial and correct call because it was a player on a big market team and small market team gets the shaft! It is sickening how blatant the league is on these matters. This is why I am almost certain that any new CBA agreement will make it WORSE for small market teams not better. The commissioner is a JOKE and fairness is the furthest thing from his mind. If anything, the new CBA will make it EASIER for big market teams to hoard all the talent and harder for small market teams to compete. You certainly will NEVER see a HARD CAP like they have in the NFL to make the game fair and level the playing field. Stern and his cronies dont want a level playing field. They want the big market teams to win all the time and make the playoffs. Small market teams are only allowed to exist so that big market teams can beat up on them and better their record. So you have 6-7 Harlem Globetrotter teams with all the talent, and the rest are Washington Generals who are only there to get beaten on gameday and to train young talent to be signed eventually by a big market team. It is becoming more and more apparent that the NBA is the LEAST level playing field of all the major sports. From least to most it is NBA, MLB, NHL, and then the NFL who has a HARD CAP and forces fairness and levels the playing field so that ALL teams have a chance every year. If the NBA gets any more unjust and unfair, it will become harder and harder to watch. Fans want the games to be fair. They want all teams to have a legit shot at wining the championship. But the reality is that there are only a handfull of teams allowed to acquire enough talent to actually compete for a championship. AND no matter how well your GM does or how well a team drafts, there will always be a deep pocket big market team wining the championship. We can only hope that after Stern croaks, that the next commissioner is more concerned with the fairness of the game. The NBA needs a commissioner to come in and clean up the biased referees, and the economic situation that restricts all but the most afluent teams from acquiring talent. But the status quo is making millions for the league, so dont hold your breath.
