NBA League Pass Problem

Man I screwed up. So I was excited to sign up for NBA league pass to watch it through my Roku TV, so I signed up with my PC and after I finished, it kept asking me for my TV Provider. Well I don't have one. You would think it would ask you for one before it charged your credit card. I did find out there's an alternative. I read that I can just use my ROKU App and sign up for league pass there and then I won't need a TV provider. Of course when I try and sign in now with the NBA app using Roku it still asking for my TV provider since I originally signed up on my computer lol. So I contacted their customer service asking for a refund so that I can sign up through my Roku NBA app instead. Not sure if they will give me one or if I will have to eat the cost. It just sucks. Thoughts?

this is good to know. I had thoughts of subscribing for league pass so I can watch on my laptop but since you just mentioned it asks for a TV provider, there is no way around it.

Oh man that sucks. sorry about that. What I don't understand is why does it work through Roku hooked to your TV without needing a TV provider? But yet I can't watch it on a computer without having a TV provider? That doesn't make any sense to me.

I subscribe through the computer. I don't use a Roku but have no problem using the League Pass App with Apple TV and Nvidia Shield (Google TV).

Are you sure there's no sign in that you can use with your email/NBA ID?

You shouldn’t need a provider. When you use your Roku, you downloaded the league pass app in their store right? That’s all I do and then I sign in using my email and password.

Unless user is in Sacramento market and blacked out, you would need a TV provider to circumvent blackouts maybe?

You definitely do not need to link a TV Provider if you are out of market.

Wrong. If you sign up on the web from NBA.com you have to watch it on the web on nba.com or via the NBA app.

From nba.com

Download the NBA App to stream on iOS, VisionOS, Android, Android TV, Apple TV, Xbox One and Xbox Series X (in select countries), Roku (in select countries), Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick, Hisense, Comcast, PlayStation 4 and 5 (in select countries), and Peloton. You can also stream online at NBA.com on your desktop. To see a list of all our supported devices, please visit here.

What happened is after I created the account using the computer, I then tried to log into the NBA App on my Roku and after signing in it said, "already have a NBA premium account" and I said yes, then it took me to another screen that said "Link TV Provider Subscription" and it wouldn't let me go past that screen. I had to insert a code based on what provider I was using. The below screenshot is what it wouldn't let me get past. So yea, it wouldn't work. Maybe there's just something wrong with the app. roku.jpg

You would think. I mean it should have had "Roku" listed under the "TV Provider list" just so I could get past the above screen. But as soon as you click "already have an account? that's the screen it shows next and there's no cancel button or any other button to let me by pass this. I'll just write the tech support in the morning. I'm sure they can help me figure it out. I appreciate all the tips though guys. At least I know it's something I should be able to do now.

Download the NBA app on the roku and log in. It will ask to log into the nba.com website for a code.

You dont have a provider, say no to that question. That's if you purchased from another service.

Yea it never even asked me if I have a provider, just told me to provide one. . One thing someone told me though I found out is incorrect. I had asked awhile back about the announcers and was told that when you go back to play an archive game that you can select if you want the home team announcers or the team they are playing announcers. I found out that's not true. I can't remember who told me that though. But yea if you are playing at home, you'll always get Kayte and Mark or Kyle, but if the team is on the road, you are forced to listen to the other home team's announcers. Not a big deal, but was hoping that there was a way to listen to Kayte and Kyle for every game. I work during most nights and don't have cable, so I can't listen to the games live, so have to watch them 3 days later lol.

I just went into 3 different road games. The Bucks, Bulls and Warriors and was able to watch the Kings broadcast for all three. When you click on full games, it gives you the option of which broadcast you want to watch.

I just picked a random game from 2023 - Feb 24 AT the Clippers. It chose the Kings crew by default but I am able to choose Kings or Clippers or a half dozen alternate game streams - for giggles I chose "Mascot Mode" which has a bunch of NBA video game style animations and the Clippers announce crew.

This is on a Shield not Roku, but I press up on my remote which pulls up a menu where you choose "streams", selecting that gives the choice of which broadcast to watch. It works very similarly on Apple TV as well. I have to imagine Roku is the same.

Hmm, I'll give it another shot tomorrow then. I could have sworn it only showed 2 options, "recap" and "full game" and when I clicked on "full game" the game just started playing and didn't give me any options to select broadcasters.

Annoying but it will autoplay one (after a commercial) and you have to select once the game is on (and watch another commercial). Don't get me started if you try to pause or rewind and accidentally back out of the game.

But .. just try not to do that :D:D

Got it! Thank you. Yea I had the small "streams" on the left had corner of the screen that someone also mentioned once I selected a game that I didn't see the first time. My 60 year old eyes aren't the greatest, but I got it now. And then I had to select "Kings Full Game" and not the other team. Anyway, all is well. TY all.
