NBA Draft 2025 Open Thread

A certain someone will probably blow a gasket if we pick him with the 42 tonight since he doesn’t have a 10 foot wingspan but I would be more than fine if we walked out of the draft with Nique and Proctor (plus it would definitely mean at least one of DDR/Lavine/Malik is gone gone gone)
If Raynaud doesn't fall down to 42, and if Proctor is still on the board, I'll be perfectly content if we end up drafting him.

Projected, well maybe, to be the steal of the draft. When the Kings select him get ready to say Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi…..

I could get on board with Devin Carter, Nique Clifford, and Keegan Murray at the 1-2-3 positions with a new frontcourt if that's the plan. That's three guys on the perimeter who are all hard workers, can defend their position, and should keep most opposing backcourts off the glass. I'm lukewarm on this pick mostly because our front office hasn't done anything yet to indicate that they're going to commit to the young guys. Drafting one of the oldest players in the draft at a position where we have no immediate need just feels like business as usual to me for an endlessly risk-averse Sacramento Kings front office.

And if it is business as usual, we can expect them to waffle around adding B-tier free agents to further clutter the depth chart while refusing to sell off the veterans until they lose almost all of their value. If we sign someone like Dennis Schröder and roll with LaVine, Sabonis, and DeMar in the starting lineup again while a better, tougher squad of hungry young guys rides the bench I will not find much joy in watching the Kings next season. I look forward to being pleasantly surprised though if this Kings front office is actually built different than the rest.

Everything prior to Perry is irrelevant to Perry as far as I am concerned. Perry shouldn't be judged by McNair's past actions, nor by the fears and worries that McNair has engendered in the fan base. If I judge Perry, it's going to be done strictly on the actions of Perry. That's it.

Let's look at his sole action so far. First, he traded up in the draft. He was willing to put some draft capital on the line and his neck in order to do so. Second, he traded with OKC. He wasn't afraid to deal with a team within the Division nor with Presti, one of the better GMs in the game. Third, at least so far, the overall team has gotten younger; he didn't trade off the pick to get older. Lastly, Perry picked the kind of guy that is in line with his emphasis on toughness and defense. All of the above is positive, imo. One step at a time. We will just have to wait and see what he does with his next actions and leave our Kings' baggage in the rear view mirror.
