[NBA] Comments that don't warrant a thread (APR)

I feel like this statement can be said on every sports forum out there. Past, present, and future.
Maybe, but I don't go to sports forums that have been created to discuss sports that I am uninterested/barely interested in and/or actively dislike to give takes. I generally don't even go into dedicated threads on this message board to give takes about sports I don't care about, so the psychology of people who do that intrigues me.

Like, pretty much the only time I can be caught dead in the football threads is if there's some kind of news that has transcended the sport, or if there is a viral meme that was brought to my attention. I don't go into the NFL threads to tell you guys everything I hate about football, because I feel like that would be prick-like behavior.

I think some of it is online culture. Read any comment section on nearly any subject online and its littered with negativity and scrutiny.
I mean, I'm aware that it happens, the part that keeps ****ing me up is why it happens? Like, ain't people got **** else to do?

I've seen some posters (possibly including a fellow mod whom shall remain nameless) essentially say that they wouldn't follow the NBA at all, if there weren't a team in Sacramento, so maybe there are a bunch of people who identify as Kings fans who don't actually like basketball, they just like rooting for the home team?
That's me - no worries. I watched NBA before the Kings arrived (mostly Celtics (Bird), and Lakers (Magic / Kareem), because that's who was on TV) and also followed Jordan around the time the Kings landed here. But I didn't get to watch much basketball on TV at the time. Despite that, when the Kings moved here they became MY team and that's who I want to watch. I also only have so much time in my days and when I watch NBA I watch the Kings. I don't give a flying rip about the Blazers or Suns or Magic and actively dislike the Warriors and Lakers. So, if my son has the PO on right now I'll half watch the game for the heck of it while I'm reading a book or working or something, but I generally don't care who wins. And if I don't care who wins, I don't care about the particular game being played.

If the Kings left I'm not sure exactly what I would do. Depends on the circumstances, I guess.

I like going to OSU games with the in-laws in Oregon to support the Beavers. I've gone to hometown basketball games to support the locals. And I enjoy them all.

It's the same with football - I'll watch pretty much every 49ers game but don't generally care about any other games. Baseball (Giants) and hockey (Sharks) I don't watch at all on TV but like going to games in person. If any of these teams are in the PO I tend to watch.

Just because I don't watch other teams doesn't mean I don't like the sport. I am just focused on the teams I like. I already waste enough time in front of screens. I'm not about to do it for teams I have no interest in. I've got a book list a dozen deep I need to get to. I should get more work done around the house than I do sometimes. My Netflix, Disney+, and Prime queues are very long and getting longer. Diablo 4 is always sitting there wanting some attention as well. I prioritize certain things. I can't do it all. If my teams are playing or in the PO, I try to watch as a priority. If not, I try to catch up on other things.

We all consume sports differently!

I identify with this. I am interested in things other than the NBA. I like basketball as a spectator professional sport more than any other. But it competes with other things in my entertainment budget.

What makes the Sacramento Kings unique among my interests is that it's a local connection to elite international competition. Without that to distinguish it, the NBA would have a hard time getting my attention.

when you realize that a good portion of the population whether pre-teen, adolescent or adult, carry a small computer in their pocket, it's inevitable part of advanced technology.

People feel like ****, and expressing it publicly makes them feel a bit better for a little while. Sucks to be everybody else. And complaining on the internet is free.

Wanna prevent it? Either we teach everybody how to make art, or we make therapy as cheap as water. Failing that, the annoying will find any outlet to torment everyone else.

About the sport, dawg. I should hope that you don't make a habit of going up to people and telling them what you don't like about them as people, unless you like getting into fights?
I was just trying to figure out your post. I seem to recall you repeatedly discussing not liking the prevalence of the 3 point shot and other aspects of the game as well... ;)

That is true (well the part about three-pointers is true, not sure if you could find me ranting about many other aspects of the sport), but I bet you wouldn't have to try too hard to find me talking about something I like about the NBA, too. Like, there's basically a running live blog thread dedicated to my favorite thing about basketball.

it's the lack of balance that annoys me.

What have I been complaining about with the game itself? I really don't recall anything. While it is true I don't watch games that don't involve the game in general, I don't recall dissing it.

I am not asking to quote my posts or anything, just what made you think of that?

I think you may be pulling a "me", 'Hawk, in the sense of it appears that you may have fixated on a throwaway line in my post. I wasn't actually implying that you specifically do a lot of complaining... I was implying that I'm not a hundred percent sure if you really like basketball, because of the whole "I don't pay attention to basketball when the Kings aren't playing" thing, but that's pretty much the only part of my post that actually applied to you. I wasn't saying that everything that I brought up in that post necessarily applies to everyone I was thinking of.

When I speak of lack of balance, I'm talking about the members where you can look 5-6 pages deep into their posting history, and not find anything positive that they've ever said about anything.

In fairness/ agreement with Slim's post, I feel I used to enjoy basketball but now I just follow the Kings.

I'm going to roll out my ... If the NBA season were shorter and the games didn't have timeouts then maybe it would still be fun?

But really if I didn't follow the Kings I would maybe watch a national team game every two years - but the national team isn't even that fun to watch anymore.

If I had two hours to myself tonight and didn't have to work I would've put the London marathon on.

Thanks for that clarification. I thought you indeed were saying that I was complaining about the game somehow. Sorry I misread your comment.
