NBA All-Star Team (so far...)

#1
In naming my rosters for the All-Star game so far, I'm going to play the popularity contest and name the most popular players as the starters rather than some of those who actually deserve it. The benches will be made up (as always) of those who actually deserve it.

Here it goes:

WESTERN CONFERENCE Starters:

F Tim Duncan
F Kevin Garnett
C Yao Ming (He actually deserves it though)
G Kobe Bryant
G Steve Nash

WC Reserves:

F Carlos Boozer
F Dirk Nowitzki
F Carmelo Anthony
C Amare Stoudemire
G Kevin Martin
G Deron Williams
G Baron Davis
G Chris Paul

EASTERN CONFERENCE Starters

F Lebron James (Deserving)
F Paul Pierce (A toss-up really...but he's the 2nd most popular player on the ballot in the Eastern Conference Forward spot).
C Shaq (Will dominate the voting on reputation alone)
G Allen Iverson (Deserving)
G Dwayne Wade

EAST Reserves:

F Emeka Okefor
F Vince Carter (I know he's listed as a guard...but he's a SF playing the 2).
C Dwight Howard (the best center in the Eastern Conference, should start).
G Joe Johnson
G Gilbert Arenas
G Michael Redd (As much as I like D-Wade...Redd deserves the starting spot over him this season.)

Now...your thoughts??????

Who determines whether they are deserving or not?

My opinion more than anything based on how they've performed so far this season. We all know the All-Star team is a popularity contest when it comes to the starting lineup, and most of the time the most popular players start, while the best players sit on the bench and only make it through the coach's vote.

replace Baron Davis with Mike Bibby

No. Baron Davis is the best guard in the West right now. He should be the starter at the 2 - but Kobe will win the voting.

Replacing D. Williams with M.Bibby would be more acceptable - but is Bibby even playing at an all star level right now?

Your picks are very solid.

Of course, all of this can change when Feb. comes around. There is still a lot of basketball to be played!!!

I think pierce is deserving of the start spot thus far - is he still averaging 10 rbs a game?

no, but i think its the injuries that are affecting his shooting touch

Odom - 19.3, 8.6, 4.9, .486 FG.

I think he makes it in this year if he keeps those numbers on pace.
It would be nice for his confidence. Probably a couple more points, a couple more rebounds, and a couple more assists will seal the deal for the hated Odom. I wish he makes it, I doubt he will. He will always get snubbed by the experts as they will find reasons for him not to make it.
