My Plan for Kings 2010

Prospect
I would like to introduce myself as a long time Kings fan who has been coming on these boards for years, but have never voiced my thoughts. Since the Kings seem headed in the right direction, I will layout my plan for the Kings to become contenders again.
I would like to see the go in a couple different FA signings/Draft directions:
Option 1: Sign SG Joe Johnson in FA 2010 and Draft Demarcus Cousins or
Option 2: Sign Bosh or David Lee in FA and Draft SG Evan Turner

Later in the next couple years I would like the Kings GM to remember how to draft for depth so the bench can be like another starting 5 like they had back in the early 2000's. I hope my first post is worthy enough of some response....GO KIngs!

I don't have much of a problem with either one of your options. Other than our ability to do exactly that. By that I mean we have to have a top five pick, preferly, a top three pick. We might be able to get Cousins at number 5. But there's no way we would get Turner at number 5. I have him going at number 2. I have Cousins at number 3. But thats just me in regards to Cousins.

I'd love to have Bosh, but I'm not so high on Lee. We really need a defensive minded big man and Lee doesn't fit that description. Nothing against Lee. He would be a nice player to have on the floor with a good defensive center.

Welcome to the discussion! I was a lurker for about a year myself before I decided to start posting, and I think my first post was probably something similar to this. We're at a point now where there's going to be lots of different opinions about what to do next with free agency, draft picks, more trades, etc.

Both of your options looks pretty solid to me -- we need a post scorer and we need a backcourt wingman for Tyreke. I also tend to think keeping Evans at PG is the best idea so I was looking at Joe Johnson as a possible free agent signing too. The only question there is whether he's at the point now where his performance is going to be declining in a couple of years. You don't want to be overpaying for past performance. You also don't want your star player to be breaking down in the middle of your championship run. That makes me a little nervous about signing Joe Johnson right now.

I think there's basically no chance of getting Lebron or Wade to sign here, so Bosh looks like the best possible signing we could make with all that cap space. Maybe if we get a top 2 pick (which is what it would take to get Turner anyway) he would want to be a part of a young team. That's the hope anyway. I wouldn't throw a lot of money at David Lee though. I don't think he's that much better than Carl Landry from what I've seen and I think you could argue that his numbers have been inflated by playing major minutes on some terrible teams.

Ultimately what we do this off-season is going to depend on where our pick lies and what moves other people are making. It's impossible to predict those things right now. But I can say that if we come out of this offseason with Johnson and Cousins or Bosh and Evans that I'll be a very happy Kings fan.

I cannot see Bosh or Johnson coming here. Johnson would give up 30 million to come to a lesser team.

Lee would be bad for a couple of reasons: (1) you've have three PF and no center Landry, Lee, and Thompson with no center (don't vew Thompson as a true); (2) - more importantly - as soon as the new CBA comes into effect - Lee goes from overpaid to like Iggy over paid. See my 2010 thread, while people disagree about what 2011 or 2012 will look like, nobody seems to disagree that paying 2010 prices of a 2nd teir guy won't work out well very shortly.

Both options seem unrealistic to me, based on who would be coming here in Free Agency. I guess Joe Johnson would be the more realistic option of the two...

We could, however, use our cap space we have available to absorb some bad contracts + all-star level talent or draft picks.. I would almost assume this would be the option GP goes for... unless he over-pays... which wouldn't suprise me either I guess

Ahhh those were the good ole days. :D j/k

speaking of absorbing bad contracts, why dont we just absorb jrich contract to get amare here, assuming he doesnt opt out at the end of the season.
I think jrich would be good for tyreke. Then draft cole aldrich

Evans
JRich
Aldrich
Staudimire
Casspi

bench: landry, garcia, donte, thompson, hawes, brock

that looks like a playoff team

who are we trading to get them? Beno and Noc?

Look, I can build us a major contender in two moves. Too not entirely impossible moves. Watch this:

1) trade Spencer and our #1 for Oden (switching Spencer for JT given this recent blowup with Westphal on the theory it may be presaging his end here)
2) sign Chris Bosh with the enticement of playing next to Oden/Reke.

Now watch what this same team suddenly looks like with just those two moves:

C- Greg Oden
PF- Chris Bosh
SF- Omri Casspi
SG- Franciso Garcia
PG- Tyreke Evans

6th- Carl Landry
7th- Donte Greene
8th- Jason Thompson
9th- Beno Udrih
10th- Andres Nocioni
11th- Jon Brockman
12th- Ime Udoka

In short it looks like a beast, Oden's health being the question.

Now does that happen? Obviously the odds are low. But despite all the losing that's how close we are. We are two moves from being scary. Just have to be the right moves, turn weak starters into strong benchers. Find a frontline. We are not as impossibly far off as our current record indicates.

Is it wrong to say that if we 100% knew we could sign Bosh if we got Oden that I would trade both JT AND Hawes with our #1 in this scenario. A three man rotation of Landry/Bosh/Oden would be fine with some hustle guys behind (Brock/Dorsey)
