Haha, I am just joking of course, Sun Ming Ming is not a natural 7 footer like Yao Ming. He has had a pitutary gland tumor which lead to his extraordinary height. I expect Sun to be very slow and uncoordinated.

We need a big man, dont we?

He wants to join the NBA, and i think even if this guy sucks he will make it because of his height.

I wanna see this guy play a 1 on 1 game with Yao.:D

I've actually read the guy is pretty mobile and coordinated.

His stamina is absolutly terrible and I really know nothing about his game.

But he apparently is moble and coordinated for his size.

we'll take him! he'll be the easiest player to coach... ever!

just tell him to stand in the key with his hands in the air. that'll practically double or triple our defense. not even Muss could screw that up

yes! just what the kings need! a chinese shawn bradley!

 ;)

the reason yao ming was so coveted in his draft class was because he had the skills to compete in the nba. being "coordinated and mobile" is hardly the whole ballgame. i haven't seen sun ming ming play a second of basketball, so i can't give any kind of assessment of his talent, but i imagine that i'm not that far off in my comparison to shawn bradley, which i suppose i said only half-jokingly. 7'9" centers are hardly as mobile as a team needs them to be in such a fast-paced nba style of play. yao has to really hoof it up and down the court, and his stamina sucks, but he makes up for it with real basketball talent. does sun ming ming have that? i dunno. i'll have to read the scouting reports. but regardless, what the kings need is an impact big. they need someone strong and athletic who can rebound and present a scary defensive presence in the paint.

If this guy were to make it to the NBA I would bet that he dies of a heart attack during a game at some point. I don't think with a pituary gland disorder his heart could handle the stress.

Not to mention he probably has an enlarged heart which raises the risk even higher.

if he was another shawn bradley he'd weigh 240.

Here's a clip on him, playing for Dodge City (Kansas, population 20,000) against very weak USBL opponents. If you liked Bradley, Muresan and Bol, you still won't be impressed. I think any time we see him in highlights it's going to be someone dunking on him. IF he can get into the NBA, anyway.

I remember Sun was one of the first players Petrie worked out before the draft (couple years ago). He was never asked back for a second workout and Petrie didn't draft him.

Last night at TLC at midnight there was a special on this guy, i believe it was called "Life as a giant", or something along those lines.

It started off with people talking about how he really wants to make it to the NBA, saying he would change the game, then it went into his health problems, and they said if he made it to the NBA there is a good chance he could die right there on the court.

They showed him dunking and noticed he comes down really okward, they took him to a foot docter and his feet were beyong deformed, when he was a kid in China they didnt have shoes big enough so he would squeeze his giant feet in smaller shoes, causing his bones to deform, it was a gross sight to be honest with ya.

His wingspan is the same as his height, 7 feet 9 inches, pretty crazy stuff.

On the court he can actually shoot, they showed him hittin a lot of 3s and a few half court shots, he knows what hes doing out there but they said he is badly out of shape, they said he needs to rest after only a short period of beeing on the court, one guy said he would never make it in the NBA in his current state.

I finally fell asleep and missed the second half of it, but im hoping they show it again.

Yeah, the guy looks like a abused circus animal, a true freak of nature and is trying whatever he can to make it into the NBA and get his life back together. He has been through a lot with the surgeries, poverty in China, near death with his gland problem. Also his feet are in bad shape from being squeezed into small shoes so he doesn't have much endurance and/or skill. The very fact that he can walk at all and function at that height is a amazing in and of itself, let alone playing at the skill level needed to play in the NBA. The guy would sure draw people to see him so that is revenue generating so who knows.

So really as far as skill goes he wouldn't make the NBA, but as far as freakshow people would want to come see him play is another. He surely wouldn't be a starter, at least not anytime soon like Yao his small Chinese buddy! :p Yao Ming is a rare combo of amazing size and skill and has no equal in the NBA or (in the world, most likely), the NBA for sure.
Prior to Yao there was Manute Bol at 7' 7" that was very skinny.

The point is with the NBA leaning towards small ball and a quick game of skill, the true Center is becoming extinct for the most part replaced with converted PFs who are slightly smaller for the most part and quicker/more athletic.

greg oden will lay waste to this mentality whenever he decides to come out of college...
