Mother indicted for hiring stripper for son's birthday party

NASHVILLE (AP) — A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son's birthday party.
Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy's father, the stripper and two others also face charges.

"I tried to do something special for my son," Pharris said. "It didn't harm him."

About 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.

"A person shouldn't be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors," he said.

Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.

"Who are they to tell me what I can and can't show to my own children?" the mother said.

Damn, can I trade moms? ;)

But the silliness aside, that above quote does raise some interesting questions -- so if they can arrest you in your own home for that, could they arrest you for showing him an XXX rated movie to explain the birds and bees (the grand myth being that kids haven't figured it out by the time you finally decide to raise it)? How about just an R-rated movie with a lot of skin? What about dear old dad sharing his porn collection? Hell, what about the internet?

If she wants to hire a stripper for her son that's fine but it's the other kids at the party. I bet their parents knew nothing about it and if they'd been asked, it would have been a very small party. I'd have a fit if my son went to a birthday party and they had strippers but he's only 11. With the way the world is today, they probably know more and have seen more than us and that's sad.

I don't think hiring a stripper for her minor son is fine, but I have a hard time thinking it's worthy of grand jury indictment...I know if I had a minor son who came home from a party and announced there had been a stripper present I might tend to want to discuss it with the parent involved.

On a somewhat related note, I was watching TV last night and a Kool-Aid commercial came on. Good ol' familiar Kool-Aid with the giant Kool-Aid pitcher coming in and saying something about Kool-Aid being good for kids, etc. I didn't pay much attention until I noticed the Kool-Aid pitcher had PANTS on!

Is this the morality police gone mad? Exactly what are they afraid kids will learn if he/she/it remained unclad? That giant "living" Kool-Aid pitchers do not have reproductive organs?

...sigh...

:D ;)
