Mojave Desert Trip

#1
I have recently been tempted to go on a trip to the Mojave Desert. I think a side career (full career?) involved in some Biology / Science writing may be some good fun, and this is my insane way of testing the field. I have filled out the papers, but I have to wait for the class lottery to hear if my name was pulled so that I can actually go (school budget cuts = sucktastic). I"m sure the school will have me fully informed, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever been, if there is any advice y'all can give me, or if there is anything y'all have to say about it.

I will be staying about 8 miles south of a town named Baker in SoCal, at the end of May (HOT!)

I really hope I get to go!

Haven't been out that way in forever. Our family is actually planning a trip through the southwest in a few months. I wish you luck, and will share any insights I can glean while on vacation.

Cool beans. I will return here and give a report after the trip is done as well, I may have to resurrect the thread though, if That's okay.

I've been down to Death Valley (Mojave Desert) more times than I can count. If you go there, keep in mind that it's just about the hottest desert in the world. If you decide to partake in any outdoor activities, take water...more than you think you'll need (even if you don't need it, somebody else probably will). People die every year in the Mojave because they don't take enough water to drink.

Luckily, the Mojave is very dry and has very low humidity, so a swamp cooler will work wonders with regards to keeping your dwelling cool.
