Miscellaneous Rubio stuff (merged)

Hey, we've been doing it for years. ;)

Yeah, I suppose I should have said it's hard to do it and be a winning team. ;)

The Curry/Bibby comparison is another example. First of all, I don't see it. Bibby was more of a natural PG than Curry, especially at Arizona but even so, people need to remember that our SG for most of Bibby's good years with the team was Doug Christie. Kevin Martin is not DC when it comes to facilitating the offense.

Back to Rubio, I'm interested to see the video. Of course, just as with every other prospect they've shown, there's hardly enough footage to determine anything.

Minny traded Miller and Foye to Washington for the 5th pick, Thomas, Songaila, and Pecherov.

Crap.

Why do I have this nasty feeling we may end up standing pat again, liek we have every single one of Geoff's 15 years here? Always rumblings about being aggressive. Always rumors that we like this guy or that. But in the end we always sit on our hands.

Because the best indication of the future behaviour is the past behaviour?!

This is going to suck big time if Minny trades up to pick 2 and grabs Rubio.

While I don't think we are getting Rubio it's possible that Minnesota moved up to grab a PG and a PF/C like Flynn, and maybe Hill or someone of that sort back to back. I am not so sure they trade up to grab Rubio but at this point who knows..

Thunder hire Spanish law firm

Oklahoma City Thunder have hired a prestigious Barcelona law firm to assist them should they draft Spanish guard Ricky Rubio.

Rubio has a large buyout with Spanish team DKV Joventut Badalona, and Thunder officials are using the firm to brief them on the country’s contract law and procedures. Thunder GM Sam Presti met with Rubio and his agent this past weekend.

Rubio reportedly has made progress on lowering his buyout to $4 million, still a hefty cost, but he also reportedly could be allowed to make payments over several years.

you hardly take this step unless your going to draft rubio if hes there. I guess the dreams over

Yeah, that doesn't look good at all...Oh well.

Im done hoping and wishing when it comes to this team, im just going to expect the worst because that is what usually happens to us anyway. Geoff NEVER makes any kind of splash during this time. Forget it folks...

There's a ESPN insider article that's titled "League Source: Grizzlies won't take Rubio". Well that gives us a slightly better chance of getting him if GP wants him.

If we want Rubio, we have to trade with Memphis. I don't see Rubio dropping past OKC if available, and I definately don't see Rubio dropping to #4 anymore.

That story has been out for a few weeks. They could just be covering their bases as well as they could have made up their minds.

where'd you see that news? I think this news means one of a few things....

1) OKC is intent on drafting Rubio at the 3, if available.
2) OKC wants Thabeet or somebody but will get Rubio is Thabeet (or that somebody) is not available.
3) they're blowing smoke to get someone like the Kings who may be interested in Rubio so they can get something for nothing...i.e swap the 3 and 4 picks.

Yea, I am feeling the same way. Just get the draft over with.

uh problem is they have the #3 pick... and I dont see anyone else hiring law firms to handle his buyout....

this news means the Rubio dream is OVER!!!

Who wants to start the Welcome EVANS thread???

As far as OK hiring a law firm goes, I don't think it's the harbinger of doom some people seem to believe. You can put a law firm on retainer IN CASE you need them. That doesn't mean you WILL need them. Since the article said they retained the firm to "brief them on the country’s contract law and procedures" that just sounds like good business practice to me.

Sure, the Thunder is looking at Rubio. And knowing at least a little about the contractual obligations he currently has would be pretty standard preparation, I would think...

You look at the strengths and weaknesses of ALL your potential draftees.

LOL! pretty standard in that no other teams have done this??? it just seems like the writing is on the wall...

I was really hoping that Westbrooks play at the end of last year and also his not wanting to be a 2 guard would keep the thunder at bay. but it seems like they are going to do the smart thing and take the best player available and that would be Rubio.

props to the thunder it would be a great pick up for them... although im crazy jealous of their talent...

It looks like the Kings got screwed as we all thought, when they dropped all the way to 4th pick when they could/should/deserved #1 or at least #2 or for sure #3 - not dumb luck #4. Now OKC is in position to take Rubio if they want him since it appears Memphis will go with homeboy Evans or Thabeet or trade out of the pick in which case Rubio ends up #2. Again, the Kings dumb luck produced all this - all the dumber knowing LA Clips are getting consensus #1 Griffin. I don't know what will happen Thursday but I expect more Kings fans grief or at best a big ho hum. Sorry, but that's just they way I feel, how it looks, less than 40 hours out:mad:

You don't know that no other team has done it...

I'm not saying you're wrong but I'm saying it's not that big a deal and it's certainly NOT the writing on the wall.

They don't have the #2 pick. Tipping your hand that blatantly with another team ahead of you just seems stupid. Memphis could easily grab Rubio and then work a trade, neatly sidestepping the Thunder.

LOL! well in either case Rubio doesnt make it to the Kings... As life goes as a Kings fan... we hold on to the hope that things will eventually take a lucky turn in our favor only to be given the middle finger at the very last moment...

It just seems so like us to have to watch the team in front of us pick Rubio... its like a can see it already happening so clearly.

Anyway i really dont think any other teams have hired any firms thats why we haven't heard anything. if you really think about it the Clippers are drafting Griffen... the Griz aren't taking Rubio... so their are only 2 teams that should be hiring firms and the KINGS haven't

many people in the NBA community have gone on the record as saying there is 100% chance that the Griz pass on Rubio... i honestly cant remember hearing people say 100% chance of something happening ever before.

How do you know? For either of your statements I have bolded.

Hey, if you want to continue to view the glass as half-empty, chipped and likely to give you blood poisoning when you cut your lip on it, that's up to you. All I'm saying is the "evidence" you're using isn't as concrete as you think.

levien got a look at the contract. didnt he? also its not good to hire or show any interest in rubio when memphis holds the key.. your just opening yourself to being exploited if you do that.

assuming memphis picks rubio to be traded, theyd ask more from thunder.. we want westbrook... thunder doesnt flinch.. and passes on it.. then they go to the NEXT guy..

uh petrie would you want rubio for ... uh whatcha got?

we got evans...

just the guy we want.. id say rubio for evans and 31st

done deal

then again im just hoping and ill be disappointed again..

as a kings fan i've realized that i've in some ways become physic. since 2002 things have become much more easy to predict. wither its the draft lotto or even the tie break for the 2007 draft, etc, etc.

so i've found that if we all want something to happen... it wont... therefor Rubio is as good as gone and the kings haven't hired a firm... checkmate!

LOL! pretty standard in that no other teams have done this??? it just seems like the writing is on the wall...

Given that his contractual situation seems to already be resolving favorably, retaining the law firm probably isn't that critical one way or another.
