The Knicks will sign guard Anthony Roberson later Wednesday, which further indicates that Stephon Marbury might be a goner with New York.

Roberson

Roberson's agent, Chris Grier Luchey, told 1050 ESPN that Roberson should sign a two-year deal for a little more than $1.6 million.
"I think they see Anthony as a guy who can come off the bench and score, providing a spark plug," Grier Luchey said.
The Knicks will now have 16 players on their roster. They will be allowed to have only 15 players when the season begins. Along with Marbury, Jerome James is also a candidate to be released. James has a year left on his contract with a player option for 2009-10, while Marbury is in the final year of his deal.
Roberson has previously played with the Warriors and the Grizzlies. He has averaged 4.1 points in 36 career NBA games. He played his college ball at Florida.
The New York Post, citing unnamed sources, first reported that the Knicks would sign Roberson.

BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics signed free agent center Patrick O'Bryant, a former first-round pick who played 40 games for Golden State last season.
The Celtics did not disclose terms of the deal announced Wednesday.
O'Bryant, the ninth overall pick in 2006, averaged 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game last season. He scored a career-high 10 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 16 last year.
The 7-footer out of Bradley also played eight games for the Bakersfield Jam of the Development League last season, averaging 16.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers finally made a move this offseason, signing sharpshooter Daniel Gibson to a five-year contract Wednesday.

Gibson

Bringing back Gibson, a restricted free agent, was one of Cleveland's top priorities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The guard averaged a career-high 10.4 points on 43 percent shooting last season. He sprained his left ankle in a Feb. 20 game at Indiana and missed 18 games.
Gibson, a popular player known by the nickname "Boobie," had arthroscopic surgery last month on the ankle. He's already back to playing basketball and is expected to be ready for training camp.
"He's got a great smile on the court. He can shoot the heck out of the ball and bring energy to our group because guys just love playing with him," Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said.
Aside from signing first-round draft pick J.J. Hickson last week, the Cavs have been quiet this offseason. Ferry hasn't been active in free agency because the Cavaliers are over the salary cap.
Ferry said the team has been talking to free agents and considering trades.
"We will continue to explore every way we possibly can to get better and give ourselves the best chance and the best window to win a championship this year and to have sustainable success," Ferry said.
The Cavaliers do have two exceptions ($5.5 million midlevel and $1.8 million biannual) to improve their talent and have shown interest in Boston forward James Posey, but he agreed to a four-year, $25 million contract with New Orleans on Wednesday..
Ferry also must decide on guard Delonte West, a restricted free agent, who was acquired in an 11-player deal at the trading deadline last season and showed signs that he could be the traditional point guard the Cavaliers have needed.
"We like what we saw from Delonte last year," Ferry said. "We think he and the team will benefit from having an offseason together. So hopefully, we can get moving forward with his contract negotiation as well."
The pressure on Ferry, owner Dan Gilbert and coach Mike Brown to win an NBA title is mounting with superstar LeBron James eligible for free agency following the 2010 season. That's two years away, but there's already rampant media speculation about James leaving for New York or elsewhere, and the talk isn't likely to subside.
By re-signing Gibson, the Cavaliers brought back their most consistent outside shooting threat. They're also ahead of where they were last year when restricted free agents Sasha Pavlovic and Anderson Varejao held out all summer before resigning.
Gibson was fifth in the NBA last season in 3-point shooting at 44 percent. He was named MVP of the All-Star Rookie/Sophomore game in New Orleans when he made a record 11 3-pointers.
The Cavaliers are in need of a second scorer to take some pressure off James. Gibson has filled that role at times but not consistently.
"I feel like as time goes on I'll continue to improve and my role will continue to increase and develop," Gibson said.
Gibson missed the final two games of Cleveland's playoff series against Boston with a separated shoulder. Gibson, whose scoring was key to the Cavaliers' win over Detroit in the Eastern Conference finals to reach their first NBA finals in 2007, says missing Game 7 of the Boston series still haunts him.
"I've had a lot of sleepless nights just wondering where I could have helped the team," Gibson said.

Looks like a couple former Kings get deals

The Phoenix Suns apparently dipped into the talent pool in their own division this weekend.
Multiple media reports on Sunday said that free-agent forward Matt Barnes, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season, will take a physical on Monday in Phoenix before signing a one-year deal with the Suns.
"He's the perfect player for us, an athletic guy who runs the floor, finishes at the basket and can shoot the outside shot," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said, according to the East Valley Tribune. "He's also a guy who has had big games in the playoffs for Golden State and likes the big stage."
The 27-year-old Barnes has played for five teams in a five-year career. His best season came in 2006-07 when he averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds for a Warriors team that upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.
Last season, Barnes' numbers fell off to 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, close to his career averages of 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Barnes will make the veteran minimum -- $1.2 million -- next season.

BOSTON -- Eddie House had virtually disappeared from the Boston Celtics rotation during the Celtics' run to the NBA title. When he got in the game, though, he showed his worth.

House

Allen

House, who made a key 3-pointer while pouring in 11 points in 25 minutes in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers, agreed to terms with the defending champions on Monday. Tony Allen, another backup guard whose development slowed when he tore ligaments in his knee during the 2006-07 season, also re-upped with the team.
Boston media reported that both players received two-year contracts.
Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge wouldn't be specific on the financial terms of the deals, but a source told the Boston Herald that both players would be paid over $2 million per season.
The Celtics lost sixth man James Posey to free agency last week, but Monday's deals give the team a chance to return most of its key players when it goes for an 18th title next season. All five starters are under contract, and only injured Scot Pollard and aging veterans P.J. Brown and Sam Cassell are left on the market.
Although better suited as a shooting guard, House was the backup to point guard Rajon Rondo for most of the regular season, averaging 7.5 points and 19 minutes per game. After Boston signed Cassell in March, House's role was reduced. He played a total of 2 minutes over six games late in the Eastern Conference finals and early in the NBA Finals against Los Angeles.
But in Game 4 against the Lakers, House scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, including a baseline jumper with 4:07 left to give Boston its first lead of the game, 84-83. The Celtics went on to win in six games for their unprecedented 17th NBA championship.
Allen was coming into his own as a rising star, averaging 19 points in a 14-game span for the otherwise woeful Celtics in December 2006 before he blew out his knee on a meaningless breakaway dunk and missed the rest of the season. He has shown signs of returning to that form, but his minutes have largely gone elsewhere.

why didnt we ever resign barnes? he played so well for us then fell into no mans land in philly and new york. i would have loved to have him back as a king

Because barnes is an undersized, underskilled power foward, who lacks consistency and a true position. He's like edwardo najara without the identity of a bruiser. Mainly, he just blows. He might rebound or make a three every so often, but its kinda hard to throw money(any amount) at a guy, when doing so would get you fired. He's the type of player who might get you fired as a GM....Barnes needs a successful team to be successful(bad sign). we dont need him because he wont win us any +games(literally) and he is still trying to stick in the leauge(bodes poorly for team cohesion). I'm way more interested in Jason Williams, all he has to do is play one minute and Arco will go nuts. That already is much more valuable than Barnes

Barnes is a three who is athletic, rebounds well for his position and is best on running teams. He's also a hustle/energy guy off the bench. Barnes was productive with the Warriors, and I imagine he'll be similarly productive with the Suns.

Notice he is going to an offense that is okay with bad shots. Notice he is recieving the veteran minimum. I did not say he was a bum, but i did imply it. He played the center position sometimes in the past 2 years, and a 6-7 center is laughable. He is most effective at the four spot, but at 6-7, defensively he can't do much against a bigger player. His true strength is Off. Rebounds, but that kindof dissappears when hes not 100% into his game. Therefore, his intangibles are not anywhere near to those of Williams. He may start in PHX, but i suspect he gets less minutes than Hill.

He'll fit in nicely with the Suns, I think. But he never had a role on our team, and wouldn't now, especially with the glut of swingmen we've been dealing with for the past two or three years.

Sorry, I only have a Wikipedia link, but former bouncy king Mo Evans has inked a 3 year, $6.4 million deal with GS. Just earlier in the day former Kings draftee hopeful Marcus Williams was traded to GS. Guess that resolves their backup PG and SG situation, and leaves Azubuike to join the Clippers.

If true, good for Mo. I liked him when he was here.

In another move relating to a former Kings player, hated and despised PG Jason Hart has been traded to the Clippers for Brevin Knight, who now goes to Utah. In other words, a one-trick defensive pony becomes traded for an oft-injured undersized defensive playing assistmaker. Actually--why would the Clippers want to trade a guy who boasted 4.62/1 assist per turnover ratio for a guy who only averaged 2.9 ppg? Things that make you go hmmm...

For whatever it's worth, the Jazz won that trade; I'll take forty percent of Brevin F. Knight over a hundred percent of Jason Hart.

Barnes isn't a PF, or C, hes SF/SG. The only reason he ever played C/PF is becuase Nellie is crazy for smallball. He was doing well in GS but fell out of favor with Nellie and was sent to the end of the bench(I dot know why). I dont think hes a centerpeice, or even a high level role player, certianly not worth big money, but he can play in the NBA at 6-7 off the bench.

The only reason I could think of is maybe Hart's contract isn't guaranteed or something, and they're trying to free up more salary. If not, then the Clippers really are dumb..

LA Clippers = Donald Stirling

Trying to figure out why he does some of the things he does will only cause you to lose sleep and doubt your sanity.

:)

My best friends son played with Barnes in highschool. Thats the only place he ever played center. Its obvious you know nothing about Barnes. He's a SF and has always played SF. He happens to be a pretty good defensive player at that position and he rebounds well for that position. I will give you, that he's a streaky shooter, but has improved his shot over the years.

I will also give you, that at times its hard to tell who's playing what, in Nellie's rotation. I happen to know Barnes personally, and he's a dedicated young man who will bust his butt for you every night. He's not, nor will he ever be a superstar, but he has made the most of his ability through hard work. I would suggest that you don't make blanket statements about someone, when you don't have a clue what your talking about.

the lakers just resigned sasha for 3yr/15 mil.... thats way better than what we signed beno for... if the kings had only waited...

Way better = the same money per year for a much worse player who can't play d worth crap, sucks in the clutch, and is a b*tch overall? (hence: Vujab*tch)

Two years longer isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if Beno keeps improving. Those final 2 years at ~6-7 mill he'll be very, very tradable.

Journeyman Maurice Evans has agreed to terms with the Hawks on a three-year deal believed to be worth about $7.5 million, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.

Evans was reportedly close to signing a three-year deal with Golden State on Wednesday, one California newspaper reported.

... before the Warriors decided to match a three-year, $9 million offer sheet to their own restricted free agent swingman, Kelena Azubuike, from the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday.
