Mike James!!!!!

I just heard this guy on The Jim Rome Show. He is an unbelievably passionate and confident person about life and basketball.

This dude is a walking can of Red Bull with a healthy dose of cockyness, swagger and confidence that can win an NBA championship and be successful at life. His energy is off the charts. Two things that i will take from what he said.

1. He is from Amityville, N.Y. and he has a tatoo that ask "Are You Scared"?:D

2. The night that Kobe went off for 81 against the Raptors, he was pissed, and he let everybody know about it.

He has now moved up to one of my top 10 favorite NBA players. Family man, community man, basketball player.

Timberwolves are lucky to have this guy. watch out for Mike James!!

Who?

Mike james!!

Who?

Not Mike Jones, Mike James:D

Comment if you heard that.

I also agree about Mike James, he's quite a passionate and energetic guy. Occasionally a bit too much, but not really in a bad way.

He's been breaking out steadily the last couple seasons. Happy for him, he and KG should be in the playoff picture.

I seriously doubt a 6'2" point guard could slow down Kobe.
Why not? We had a 5'11" point guard slow him down a few years ago... Plus, we've had a history of having bigger players get locked up by smaller players for years. James might not be up to the task, but I doubt that size has anything to do with it.

indeed

effort is the difference between kobe going off for 40-50 and kobe really going off for 81. put a body or two on him, mike james included, and all of a sudden he's still embarassing you, but at least he's not dropping nba record setting sized numbers on you.

two sides of the same coin; you need both effort and size, but sometimes one can make up for the other. having smaller players guarding much larger ones, and doing so effectively, is not the norm in basketball.

KT, for example, has a lot of energy and effort in him. i dont exactly want him guarding the other PFs in the league.

james could have doubled kobe and force him to pass it to parker... after 45 points you start to wonder.... should i get physical with him or not? that entire team should have been ejected for beating the crap out of kobe every time he touched the ball... or atleast they should have all fouled out....

no. i don't think this even compares. i don't want KT as our starting PF to guard the best PF's in the league, either, but when he's on the floor, he's the only option we have. same goes for the raptors. whoever they've got on the floor has the responsibility of trying to contain bryant. every team in the league has that challenge a few times a year. the raptors only have to see him twice. yet they did nothing to stop him. not a thing. their defense was pathetic.

and we're not talking about kobe bryant having an outstanding game where he scores 50 points. we're talking about kobe bryant having a legendary game in which he scores 81, and i'm inclined to believe that size makes no difference after 50 points. kobe bryant is the best player in the nba, but he doesn't have the height of wilt chamberlain. its got to be harder to score 81 as a SG than it is to score 100 as a C. that said, even if kobe has the talent to score 81 in a game, a defense has to be trying its best to lay off him in order for it to actually happen. if you put a hand in his face consistently, and threaten him with constant double teams, he won't sniff 40. the raptors were utterly embarassed, and i don't care how pissed you are after the game. its all hollow posturing if you don't have the pride to back it up during the game.

I'm not sure if you guys saw that game, but there was no way anyone was slowing down Kobe, let alone a 6'2" point guard. And the days of slowing down Kobe with a smaller player are long gone. Artest and Bowen are just about the only guys who can slow him down, and even then if he's playing his A game even those guys don't have a chance.

i'm also inclined to believe that effort makes no difference after 50 points. kobe went off, wasn't anything stopping that that game.

i get that if you threw multiple defenders at him he'd have to work harder, but he'd have to work harder against someone of equal physical attributes (including height) too.

^Yeah, and also they did try and throw multiple defenders at him, and it just didn't matter. He was unconscious.

gah- when i saw this thread with all the "!!!!" I thought we traded for james....

which would mean we would be dealing with the t-wolves....

...which would mean i got excited that maybe we got garnett too..but then again the title would be KEVIN GARNETT!!!

so nevermind...i thought petrie made a move..

that entire starting lineup should have fouled out of that game.... there was no effort... if he scores 81 from the line then fine.... but not the way kobe did....
