Mike Brown Fired

From my “score” app:

Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox isn't showing much remorse following head coach Mike Brown's firing.

"I wouldn't use the word 'guilt,'" Fox told reporters Saturday, including ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "That's the nature of the job that we have. Obviously, him signing his extension this summer, we thought we would be together a whole lot longer."

Fox continued: "But that's the decision that they made. But at the end of the day, too, he's still getting paid. A great part of being an NBA player, being an NBA coach is those things can happen, but contracts are guaranteed."

interesting reaction. I thought he would have been a bit more broken up? Guess not…….

He's got that "thousand yard stare" in his eyes

The other consideration could be the team peaked 2 years ago and caught the league by surprise with Fox/Sabonis playing amazing (Huerter was insane for the first few months as well) plus the West being banged up/injured, the team got scouted and maybe does not possess the quality to overcome that. In order to overcome that they tried for a panic move for DDR which has back fired not due to talent but due to fit.

While I don't know if Brown deserved to be fired every time a coach gets fired they don't deserve it according to other coaches it's getting tiresome hearing it.
And lets be honest. Both of the loudest voices are on the same chopping block Brown was. Not a coincidence.

That take is rather unfair. Doug Christie has a number of advantages that an outsider, say Frank Vogel, would have stepping in at mid-season. He also brings significant professional background.

1) He already knows the players extremely well, in terms of their personalities, and in terms of their strengths and weaknesses on the court. There is a game every two nights starting Saturday night, and no time to waste.

2) He already has the players' respect. He has been there every game, greeting the players every time they come off the court.

3) He already knows the offensive and defensive schemes that the team has been using thus far this season, and can implement changes strategically, rather than wholesale.

4) Christie, by all accounts, did a fine job in Summer League, especially on defense. The Kings' squad was sixth in Las Vegas in opponents' scoring.

5) He has strong opinions, which fans know from his three years as a television analyst.
The fact is he's been being groomed for a coaching spot, if not THE coaching spot. When you survive regimes it says something about how the organization feels about you.

He did, however, get a little triggered when he heard the word "guilt." That got a more emotional reaction.

I'm STILL wondering why we went away from some of our Beam Team year offense (last year into this year). It was working. Players were happy. Points were put up at an incredible rate.

Fix the defense a bit, sure. Our current defense (overall, middle of the pack in the league this year, I think, especially with a bit more Keon) with the offense that was working better would have been nice to see at some point...

Among other things, just sticking with a rotation would be a marked improvement. Aside from Kevin Huerter, I don’t think we’ve had the same three or four players coming off the bench for two or three games in a row all season.

I really think it just got figured out and scouted much better by opposing teams which happens sometimes. Last year the Kings went from shattering the NBA record for offensive rating the prior season to 13th and as more and more time went on Fox was having to grind himself into a stub just to pull out the wins they did get. The Kings are still running plenty of DHO, but teams with length coming up and meeting those handoffs was turning it into something pretty hit and miss.

You can win with a player with Fox's laid back attitude but it's tough to do so if he's the #1 guy ... He doesn't have the team ego in my opinon necessary to elevate the team. He's highly competitive and driven, but it seems more of a personal competitiveness rather than a "I'm gonna do whatever is necessary to help the team win" ... Laid back attitude works great because it helps in highly pressured situations on the court, but it can be a downfall when things are spiraling as we're seeing

Doesn’t seem to broken up about it. He also indicated that his stance on a long term partnership with sac has not changed and is the same as it was in the offseason
He worked closely with Mike for close to 3 years, you think he could show some empathy. Instead you get 'I found out, I got on the plane, I had a sleep'. People want Fox to be more pissed off when he plays but he seems prickly enough to me.

Yeah it didn't look good. He doesn't need to be pissed but you'd think when your boss is fired for poor performance, there will be some self reflection ... Most guys would think or say something like "We had great times here with Coach, and anytime someone is let go you should look in the mirror and ask yourself, what can I do to get better? I hope and expect us all to rally around this and come together as a unit. We control what we do, coach can influence it but if we're not performing the guys in this locker room got to regroup and execute better" etc etc - Gotta come with that tone as the leader of the team the day after your head coach is fired, but he didn't.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he prefers to keep those conversations private but yeh saying you had an awesome nap right after hearing the news is odd

Maybe that is not how he felt. There should be value in honesty over lip service.

Additionally, it doesn't appear that most players have expressed much beyond "surprise" to the firing. That is telling.

That's a multimillionaire talking from a business perspective.

I wouldn’t say being able to talk to the press is lip service. As the leader of the team Fox should say the right things to the media. I don’t agree it doesn’t matter. At very least to encourage fan base and community and give them confidence.

And my point specifically is for Fox because he is the longest tenure King, best player, highest scorer, and PG. The other guys can be short and brief with the media - that’s not a big deal, but Fox should take on responsibility to set the right tone in his interaction with the press the next day after his head coach is fired. He didn’t.

I’m all for honesty and I can also criticize when I think a guys lackadaisical attitude is detrimental to the team.
