Are 49ers Angling For Vick?__________________________________

NFL.com - Many believe that the Falcons are trying to set up a deal with quarterback Michael Vick once he's legally and physically ready to return to the NFL.

The 49ers interviewed former Falcons head coach Dan Reeves for their offensive coordinator vacancy, and have also spoken with a number of coaches that were with Vick during his time in Atlanta.

Vick could be back in the NFL as early as this summer after he's released from federal prison.

F*** that!..
They day that scumbag puts on a niners jersey is the day I quit watching the NFL for good.

I hated the 9ers for most of my kid years, I kinda eased up on them over time and wished them well... But if they sign Vick all that good will will be gone.

Hopefully its a moot point, if Goodell doesn't ban the guy for another 3 or 4 years I'd be shocked considering what he's done to players who just get interviewed for questioning.

I mean, do they seriously believe that Mike Vick will solve any of their problems? That would go down as one of the dumbest moves in history.

Since the organization that actually rescued and rehabbed a number of Vick's dogs (there's a story in SI a couple of weeks back about it) is based right across the Bay in Oakland, I seriously doubt if Michael Vick will be coming to SF ... And I'm not taking any chances. I'm sending a strongly-worded email to the 49ers to let them know how I feel. I suggest any and all 49er fans do the same thing.

I see somebody giving Vick another chance, but probably not as a starter. It's a shame that he's an idiot, because before all the legal crap, he was the most exciting player to watch. Well, the most exciting QB to watch anyway. I don't see the Niners giving him a shot, but maybe someone like the Lions

Listen before i say this let me say I do not agree with what Mike Vick did at all, and he deserved to be punished heavily.

With that being said - if Pac Man Jones can get three chances after shooting and paralyzing actual people, then why can't Vick get another chance?

Also Leonard Little was drunk driving, wrecked and killed another driver, yet he got another chance

I split this out of the 49er thread. And for the record? It doesn't matter what Jones did or what Little did. We're not talking about either of them. It actually makes me physically ill that people will find excuses for ANY of them, just like people overlooked Ruben Patterson's misdeeds.

Blech!

Being a dog lover, Michael Vick does NOT and I repeat does NOT deserve another chance in the NFL. He really, really, really has to prove that he made a mistake, which I don't think he has.

I have to agree with kings4lyfe on this one. I don't agree with what Vick did AT ALL, but....people have done worse and got 2nd and 3rd chances. Like k4l said, if it weren't for people like Pacman getting second chances then I'd say no way because you broke the law. But since the NFL is letting these players get back in the league, then why not Vick?

FTR, I am not defending Vick in any way

This is just MY opinion. Also, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have given Pacman a second chance either.

I am 1000% with Kings4lyfe on this.

Im not defending the guy, but I think it says something about our nation when drunk driving and killing another HUMAN gets you 90 days in jail and a long NFL career, while dog fighting gets you 2 years and a potential kiss of death out of the league...

He's served his time. If someone gives him a second chance Im not gonna pitch a fit.

Ehh.. MIKE VICK.... ALEX SMITH....

Lemme think about it for 2 seconds......

Ill go with MIKE VICK PLEASE! Im tired of seeing the NINERS lose.

Don't forget the fact that he's flat broke and has been humiliated by 2, hour long, specials on animal planet..."Michael Vick:The Man, The Player, The Cold Blooded Killer"

I'd be happy to see him get a second chance.

Don't take this as me being a Michael Vick apologist. What he did was wrong and despicable, and I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't understand that.

That having been said, he's serving a two year jail sentence for his crimes. Shouldn't that be enough? I mean, it's almost like some people won't be satisfied until they see him tied up and treated like the dogs that he was responsible for mistreating. How about a little forgiveness?

I just don't think the guy should be blackballed for the rest of his life over mistakes that he made. I can understand not wanting him on your team, but holding on forever is kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

I wouldn't want any of the guys mentioned on my team. I'm all for second chances and I'm quite sure they can all find jobs somewhere. I'm not against gainful employment for them.

I just don't think it should be in the NFL. Playing in such exclusive company for so much money is a priviledge awarded to a very few. They all blew it as far as I'm concerned. Let some other talented players have their shot.

I do not support the NFL barring Vick from playing. I just hope no one hires him to play.

Not in Goodell's NFL. If you get suspended just for being a suspect, the conviction needs to carry something heavier.

I don't see why anyone would actually want Vick, he has the physical tools but not the mental ones. And after an extended time off you wonder how much the physical edge is gone.

He's been out of the NFL for two full seasons. I'd like to think that's long enough.

I can't imagine any team signing him to play quarterback. Those days are done, or at least they should be. He'd be better off playing receiver for someone. I'm sure he can still run.

The NFL hasn't even punished him yet. That is on top of his legal time. Once he is out of jail he will probably get a minimun of a year suspension from the NFL.

Goodell suspended him after he plead guilty, which means that he's been suspended now for over a year and a half. If Goodell is going to suspend him even longer after he gets out, that's up to him. I just think any sort of lifetime ban against the guy would be inordinate and unfair.

Two years ago, someone on this board (can't remember exactly who it was, though) wrote, "As long as Al Davis owns the Oakland Raiders, there will always be somebody in the NFL who thinks Michael Vick deserves another chance."

That said, as a 49ers fan, I don't want Vick to come back to play for them. I have no problem with Vick playing for some other team; he can be another team's problem.

ESPN: Falcons looking to trade Vick rights

Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff acknowledged in an interview on the team's Web site that the Falcons have decided to trade the rights to their suspended quarterback, Michael Vick.

Whole article here..

Vick is serving a 23-month sentence at the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kan., for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy. He is scheduled for release July 20 but could serve the last few months of his term at a halfway house in Newport News, Va., his hometown.
Vick has a contract that runs to 2013 and calls for him to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract is worth $45.11 million, with another possible $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses.

Who will be dumb enough to take this on??

ESPN'S Ed Werder reported that according to a highly placed team source, the Dallas Cowboys have had no discussions within their organization about the possibility of trading for the rights to Vick.

As a Cowboys fan, this better be that last time I hear our team associated with Vick. Period.

I honestly don't think there's any market in the NFL for Mike Vick as a quarterback anymore. I think the league's infatuation with the mobile quarterback is dying. If Vick really wants a chance at playing in the NFL again, he better be ready to play receiver, or return kicks or something. He could even be used in a wildcat offense, throw the ball every once in a while like Antwan Randle-El. But I seriously doubt he's going to play quarterback for any team.

Deciding to trade the rights is simply another way of saying the Falcons are praying there's someone out there dumb enough to take on the albatross that is Michael Vick. If Al Davis doesn't go after Brett Favre, maybe he'll grab the Vickman. Of course, someone should probably point out to him that BADRAP, the non-profit organization that did a lot of work in helping rehab those dogs seized from Vick's property, is based in Oakland...

I honestly think somone who has been convinced of crimes against innocent animals is going to have a lot more difficult time finding somewhere to live/play that doesn't have a lot of very vocal animal activists.

Why do they actually have a reporter reporting that nobody has even brought up the subject of Vick in the Cowboys organization? Do the 30 other organizations need to chime in?

And I thought the Falcons were just going to void his contract, did that get nixed or are they just trying to avoid a fight with the union? Surely they don't think they'd actually get a draft pick out of this mess?

Still think pairing him with Tebow in the backfield would be awesome... in Madden.

Wow the Falcons are dumb if they think they're gonna get anything for Micheal Vick at this point. They might get a laugh or 2 out of the other teams, but that's about it.

Maybe for the same reason the Bee has a reporter who thinks it's important to report that the Maloofs declined to answer a stupid "gotcha" question?

It reminds me of the old SNL skit that went on for months after the death of Francisco Franco...The tag line was "And in other news, Francisco Franco is still dead..."
