Memphis/Sacramento Trade Rumor(Draft Express)

Well I haven't read all of the comments, but the article says that Sac could provide JT or Spencer Hawes. It doesn't say there is actual discussion for either. I would rather trade our 2010 first rounder because with Rubio and the development of JT/Hawes/KMart/Cisco I think our team could at least be a top 20 team.

If Hawes or Thompson is involved I have to say no..

UNLESS we were to work it out to get the #5 from Washington and nab Jordan Hill. Even then I still would have second thoughts.

Yeah I would NOT give Hawes or Thompson away. And I would not give them away even if we got Hill. I'm not convinced on Hill anyways.

You do realize with the numbers he's begun to put up we'll be lucky to get him back at $8 mil right? Barring some tangible sign of problems or decline or a scary medical report, you don't turn your back on your homegrown talent over what ifs. Its no exaggeration at all to say that Spencer could end up as a Top 10 center within 2 or 3 years (or not -- up to him if he wants to continue being soft or not).

I agree that Spencer is our center of the future. In terms of skill and post moves he is already in the top ten in my opinion. I don't know how anyone can call Spencer's knees a definitive problem at this point considering that he he only missed 5 games this season... In fact the only starting centers to play as many games as Spencer this season have been Emeka Okafor, Erick Dampier (only plays 23 mpg), Dwight Howard, Samuel Dalembert (only plays 24 mpg), Andrea Bargnani, Nene, and Brook Lopez... In fact there are a few starting C's that haven't played as many games in TWO seasons, as Spencer has played this season alone. Another thing to take into consideration is Spencers passing ability... as it stands he is the 4th best passing center in terms of apg in the NBA only behind Brad Miller, Andris Biedrins and Andrew Bogut... In terms of passing ability he is probably 2nd behind only Miller because looking at their game logs, Spencer along with Miller, were the only ones that I saw get more than 6 assists in a game, and both of them did it on several occasions as opposed to 90% of the centers in the NBA who didn't even get past 4 assists in 1 game. Add that onto his contininous improvement in shooting and his already advance arsenal of post moves (which he needs to learn to hone) and he has too much potential to trade right now. He will never be the inside dominator of a Yao Ming or Dwight Howard, but he can definitely become the All-Star version of Brad Miller with a better inside game and more hustle...

•Memphis Not a Lock to Take Thabeet?

http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/#Word-on-the-Street-June-2nd-3241

Most NBA teams we speak to these days are assuming that the Memphis Grizzlies have been decisively spooked by Ricky Rubio’s threats to pull a Fran Vasquez, and have instead zeroed in on Hasheem Thabeet as their likely selection with the #2 pick.

Memphis coach Lionel Hollins hasn’t necessarily given up on the idea of drafting a point guard, though, and he’s telling NBA-types that he may be interested in picking one with legit size that he can play alongside either Mike Conley or O.J. Mayo depending on the situation on the floor. Tyreke Evans is one that has come up—he comes with the added benefit of having played in Memphis, which might help the team somewhat in the ticket sales department. Jrue Holiday is another name that is beginning to get some mention here.

The assumption is that Memphis will trade down a few spots, possibly to 4th, where Sacramento can offer either Jason Thompson or Spencer Hawes as added compensation. That would surely please Rubio’s camp, as the difference between the 2nd and 4th picks is somewhere around four million dollars over the course of his rookie deal, which would make things infinitely easier as far as his buyout is concerned, and also satisfy his and his family’s initial expectations of being a top-3 pick.

There are some concerns that being selected fourth won’t cut it, and Rubio has already come out publicly in the Spanish media and stated that it’s not a foregone conclusion that he’ll be leaving Joventut this summer.

“There are possibilities of continuing in Joventut. It depends on what number I get picked and the final negotiations, but mainly the buyout clause that my agent is negotiating with the club.”

In the interview, Rubio insists that he will not leave Joventut unless a better future awaits him in the NBA. “If there is not a good project in the NBA then I will not go. If I go it is because there is a good future.”

Would Memphis qualify for that? The answer early on from Rubio’s perspective appears to be no.
This rumor must have been started in Memphis. I wouldn't give up Hawes or Thompson And the #4 for #2. Maybe #4 and Donte. I'd even throw in #31.
But the Kings have to keep their young bigs. Too much upside.

It's an unknown for an unknown plus a #4. If you think we can get Rubio for Greene, then at least its in the ballpark.

Oh come on now. The opportunity cost of replacing Greene is MUCH cheaper than the opportunity cost of replacing Rubio, both in ON THE COURT production AND endorsement dollars.

It's in the ballpark. Greene plus the #4 isn't in the ballpark. Greene's talent in the NBA is more of a known than Rubio. I wouldn't trade Greene to move up 2 lousy places in this draft. Makes no sense.

FULL STOP EVERYBODY!!

From this point on in this thread can we simply agree that we are NOT giving up JT or Hawes and the #4 just to get the #2 and Rubio? That this was a stupid made up non-rumor that cited no sources at all and was just the author musing?

If we can just agree to what seems to be a very basic and very obvious premise then I think the rest of this thread goes a lot smoother without people popping up willy nilly to complain about something that is a non-possibility in the first place.

That is just because from what I recall you have made trashing Rubio a semi-cottage industry. The #4 and Green for the #2 is very much in the range of the sort of things that will normally bounce you a few picks. And Greene's "talent in the NBA", or at least as much of it as was "proven" last year as opposed to the parts that are still unrealized potential, was next to nothing. He did almost nothing well and its every bit as unknown whether he will blossom as a guy like Rubio. I wouldn't be eager to make the move because I beleive in keeping as much of our youth as we can, but its very much a reasonable proposal. In line with giving up the #31 wiht the #4. If you believe in Rubio those are relatively minor price tags.

Like I said plenty of times just wait for him to drop if he doesn't drop you pick someone else. Little by little i'm starting to think that Rubio isn't as good as we all might think he is. Your'e just simply not hearing enough about him from GM's that doesn't mean he's not good, but we might be overvaluing him more than Petrie does. I agree with not trading Greene. I'm sorry Dante Has more potential to blow up than Rubio call me stupid if you want to. Dante can be our Rashard Lewis. I just think people are too impatient. Dante is young and would have been a sophomore in college he didn't do much this year sure, but games like he had against the Hornets shows what he's able to do. I'm not trading him to move up two spots. I'd rather pick Evans, Flynn, Holliday Curry and i'm sure they would give the same if not more than Rubio would. He's an 18 year old prospect he isn't god's gift to basketball. We don't even know if he's the best pg in the draft.

memphis according to realgm.com which they got from draftexpress? that they are considering other pointguards other than rubio... it is becoming more possible that he will fall to 4th.. OKC picks him? he doesnt want to play there, and a trade with the clips could be impossible... no way would they trade blake..
