Memorable NCAA Moment (Ticha mentioned)

Even though the included weblink here is about the NCAA, I included it here because Ticha (formerly of the Old Dominion Univ. Lady Monarchs) is mentioned.

The NCAA is celebrating its 25th season of Women's College Basketball. So ESPN is doing several web articles and "Memorable Moments" countdown on their programming.

That's right. Y'know, I had not even noticed until you mentioned it!

What a coincidence! Who would've guessed that they would become teammates eight years later? :)

I remember that

That was a Big *** Upset... At least around these parts

Personally I was Pulling for the Lady Monarchs... The Stanford players use to really bother me. They would walk in the clubs like they owned the joint. So two of my favorite moments in Cardnial history was the Great Upset when the Ivy League school(Harvard I think) came to Maples and knocked them out in the first round, and of course the ODU final four.
I guess I should google ODU. But Is ODU a womens college? I didn't know a Man could be a Monarch. I thought they were Patriarch.
Damn Catholic School Education.

Even Still, OSR or The Divine Miss O is one of my favorite ex-Cardinals even before she came to Sac. Along with Val Whiting, Kate Steding, Molly G and Of course, Jennifer Azzi. Those were cool folks.
Then again That Nicole Powell Has grown on me.

ODU's most well-known sports program is their women's b-ball team. Tanty Maiga, Alisa Scott (former Houston Comets' asst. coach and Swoopes' significant other), Anne Donovan and Nancy Lieberman also went to ODU.

But ODU is not a women's-only college. They even have a men's basketball team.

Forgot to add that Adrienne Goodson and Donna Harrington were also ODU players who later went on to the WNBA. They also played for ODU's NCAA Championship Team of 1985.

Goodson currently also is an Assistant Coach for ODU's women's team.

Former ODU coach Marianne Stanley (who led ODU to the AIAW Championship in 1979 and the NCAA Championship in '85) has also coached in the WNBA (Washington Mystics and was an assistant for the NY Liberty), as well as several colleges.

The ODU final four defeat broke my heart. The first teammate Ticha had from that Cardinal team before OSR was Kate Starbird and I remember them talking playfully about how Ticha liked to remind her of that.

Nothing wrong with a swagger if you can back it up. That Harvard loss was just weird. I had the pleasure a couple of years ago of sitting with one of the members of that Harvard team - she had been comped tickets by Allison Feaster during the Sting's visit to ARCO. The M's were playing a rather uninspired game that night so I spent some time chatting with her on what that game felt like from Harvards' perspective.

I think the Monarchs of ODU have other notable sports - I wanna say they are also good at lacrosse and field hockey too. Also, add Maura McHugh to the list of alum, and I believe Sonny Allen coached the men's team there too and that's where he and McHugh had first crossed paths.

I thought Lacrosse and Field Hockey were the same thing?
