[Game] Mavericks @ Kings - 1/10/13

Also, Fat Lever seemed to disagree with Smart's replies. He noted that you have to match baskets and IT was getting the team in the offense. Trading misses wasn't a good idea versus a vet team.

IT is the only PG who can get the offense moving. The stint with Reke at PG and the offense stalling isn't something new; we've seen that his entire career. He's been most effective at the SG spot where all he has to worry about his score and play defense. Let IT get the offense in motion and then let Reke and/or Cousins initiate it. That will be our most effective setting

You could somewhat argue that letting Reke initiate the offense is putting him at PG... But really I just think that we need consistency. If we want to have Evans at PG then we have to do it consistently, both halves, every game. Tyreke literally played all 4 positions in one game. One reason why we were doing pretty well with MT and Reke out was because we were forced into consistent lineups - that allows for people to kinda figure out their roles even if the roles aren't defined for them. It also allows guys to gain chemistry with one another. Smart on the other hand just throws out random different lineups every single game. Compare the lineup that Reke played with in the first half to the ones he played with in the second. They were completely different, with different guys supposed to be the focus of the offense, and with him having to guard different guys and positions from Dirk to Carter to OJ Mayo to Dahntay Jones to Mike James.

Reke is a creator in the same mold that Kobe, Wade, LeBron are. They're looking to drive to the hoop and make one pass out to an open shooter. There's a difference in letting a guy like IT who gets the ball up the court quickly, and makes a strong move after the first pass to get the offense in motion. We don't need IT to be a big assist guy with Reke and Cousins. We need him to play like he did tonight by playing off those guys, hitting open looks, and putting pressure on the defense to account for him as well.
