[Game] Mavericks @ Kings - 1/10/13

According to Smart - he wanted to space the floor with his Hobbit Lineup. We were still in the positive but in retrospect, he could have done it differently.

What an idiot. He is so clueless.

its official. Smart thought the game was won before the 4th quarter started so he put in the all guard lineup to get them minutes. "We probably should have looked to just win the game...." No **** Sherlock.

HAHAHAHHHA Keiths answer when asked about the small lineup.

"i dont think that lineup hurt us, we were still in the plus with that lineup"

does this guy watch the games?

Tyreke's knee is worrisome. will he be playing saturday? im guessing no

Now this I will agree with. They didn't say much about what happened. He stepped on someone else's foot, right? But then grabbed at his knee while he was still on the floor? Losing him again at this point in the season could be a real problem, especially when it gets closer to trade deadlines. A healthy Evans gives us a lot more options in our trades than one with a gimpy knee.

We were -6 in that stretch while letting the Mavs gain momentum and run all over us. There was nothing "in the positive" about that lineup

Are you serious? He REALLY said that? If so, I'm going to have to rethink ever defending him again...ever. Holy Al Roker at the White House.

What's his excuse? Unfortunately, don't have the feed tonight

Someone asked him if we should've put IT in sooner and Smart stumbled and mumbled about not getting into a rotation or something... then he was asked about the lineup at the end of the 3rd/beginning of 4th and he said something along the lines of "that lineup didn't really hurt us... yeah we missed a few shots...well in hindsight we should've just looked to win the game but i wanted to put them out there". Something like that.

yes.. I defended him for a long time... but his post game comments make it hard for me not to want him gone.

Im gonna fast forward my dvr to the end to get a exact quote...

he said "i dont think that lineup really hurt us, and we were still in the + with that lineup, so no i dont think it hurt us"

how the hell does he think they were in the plus? and he said he wanted to space the floor? u can do that without using Tyreke as a PF and T-rob as a Center

This is the first game where the sole reason we lost is Smart. He's had his hand in plenty of other games, but those were already compunded with bad play from us. We had this game dominated and were well on our way to winning.

question - "coach, you know this one is coming, was there any thought to getting IT back sooner earlier in the 4th quarter".

Smart - "one thing we saw them do was get into the pick and roll with there guards and we needed a big lineup, i thought they did a good job. I thought we needed defensive stops."

Question "usually your rule is to not play guys who haven't played in the 1st half. Starting the 4th quarter you had marcus and jimmer who hadn't played, that lineup was pretty small. What was the thinking behind that lineup?"

Smart - "yeah, cause, well we needed to space the floor a little bit, and play off of that... and take advantage of those guys spacing the floor. that didn't hurt us right there... yeah we got a little stagnant offensively but we were still in the plus with that group on the floor, that didn't really hurt us. Obviously, second guessing it now....its a different story now.. but i don't think that group...you know, granted they did miss a couple shots, i thought we were in a plus situation. Granted, you know i probably should've looked at trying to get out of this building with a win, but i thought we still might of been able to pull this out... but we turned the ball over. It wasn't what they were doing as a group, it was turnovers that hurt us."

good lord.

I just remembered why I quit watching the post-game comments. When you actually write down what comes out of his mouth and read it over a couple of times, your brain starts to hurt and your eyes bleed.

Good lord is right...

Does anyone know how to listen to Kings Talk after the game? Im about an hour outside sacramento and i can't get that feed for some reason. Is there an online stream somewhere perhaps?

As I've thought for awhile now. Smart's priority is making sure everyone plays, above winning the damn game, and I believe it's because he's too scared to define roles, sub patterns and tell guys they aren't playing if he's using a 9 man rotation. He's coaching scared. He had no business running 4 guards out there and it must have been because he's too scared to face his players if he doesn't play everyone.

But to say he should have looked to leave with a win? What the hell is that? So he knew that lineup would hurt us and threw it out there for 8 mins anyway as Dal cut the lead to 5 and gained momentum? Or did he actually think it was a good idea at the time and is stuttering over himself because he now realizes everyone realizes it was flat out stupid?

If these were his actual quotes, mother of god....

He's basically admitting to assuming the game was won at that point. So he threw a bunch of random guys out there to please the crowd and get them some minutes... and it blew up in his face.... he started garbage time basketball with 15 minutes left to play in the game....

you could still get it if you have a radio

KHTK broadcasts in a way that seems somewhat questionable. I get them in the bay area.I even get them quite clearly in Santa Cruz. I have even gotten the station to come through when in the greater LA area.

Also, Fat Lever seemed to disagree with Smart's replies. He noted that you have to match baskets and IT was getting the team in the offense. Trading misses wasn't a good idea versus a vet team.
