Mathews gets big offer

Sugh. So much silliness this time around. Glad Geoff decided to stay out of it.

Absolutely.

The best thing we can do now is just take our young talent and let it develop. Let's wait and see what the new CBA holds before we go and do something which could hurt our chances to develop a title contender in the coming years.

So let's assume the Jazz do not match. That will leave Portland's PG/SG/SF rotation looking something like this: Andre Miller, Brandon Roy, Jerryd Bayless, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, Luke Babbitt, Rudy Fernandez. And all indications seem to be that they are souring on Rudy for some completely unknown reason. Well, if he becomes the #7 guy here, he'll never see the light of day. Maybe he can be had for a song at this point. I don't know what the price of Fernandez is, but I would definitely enquire.

I wonder what it would take to get Nicolas Batum? He is a good defender that can hit the 3, and all indications were that he was on the trading block prior to the draft.

I thought the indications were more that teams were trying to acquire him. The rumor was that Portland turned the #4 pick for him, so I would say it would take a lot.

Sorry, the rumor I heard was the other way around. That Minnesota turned down Batum for the #4. Either way, it looks like Portland has a little too many players at the guard position.
