(CNN) -- Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, the patriarch of the first family of Democratic politics, died late Tuesday at his home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. He was 77.

RIP. He was my Senator for most of the 90s and he actually seemed to be around town more than most other Senators I can remember, for that reason alone I've always had a special fondness for him.

Mr. Kennedy had some personal problems, failures, tragedies (don't we all to one degree or another) but seemed to rise above them with dedicated service to the people. He will be missed in the U.S. Senate as an era that started with Camelot fades into history. RIP, sir.
