Sptsjunkie
Starter
Not that we will be in a position to draft this player, but check out these two eerily similar profiles from NBADraft.net:
Player A:
NBA Comparison: Larry Bird
Strengths: Uncanny basketball smarts. Plays the game with great passion. One of the best shooters in college. Has a chance to be a special player on the NBA level because of his intelligence, desire, and abilities. Was a point guard in high school before growing from a 6-5 senior to his current 6-9 height. Still has superb ball handling and passing abilities. Growing up the son of an NBA player/coach gave him not only a great understanding of the game, but prepared him for the limelight. Kind of lulls you to sleep with his nonchalant demeanor but then rips your heart out when you least expect it, as witnessed in Duke's Championship win against Arizona. Excels in big situations.
Weaknesses: Not a freak. He's not going to blow anyone off the dribble or overwhelm them with his athleticism, but can get off the floor well and has good body control. He's pretty slow by NBA standards. But so were some of the game's great ones Larry Bird and Chris Mullin and they had Hall of Fame careers. Must get stronger, continue to develop.
Notes: "The second coming of Larry Bird" as one hoops junkie friend put it. Has that uncanny court sense of a coaches son. Amazing fundamentals and approach to the game. Crafty at getting his shot off. Excellent stroke. Very good athleticism. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
Player B:
NBA Comparison: Larry Bird
Strengths: A special talent ... Old school right down to the stripes on the socks ... Like a coach on the floor ... Incredibly competitive ... The game comes very easily to him ... A great player in the half court ... Can create offense for himself or others ... Really excels with the ball in his hands at the top of the key ... Very good scorer with complete offensive repertoire ... Effortless shooting stroke ... Has great anticipation and basketball understanding ... Great intangibles, competes and inspires others to play hard ... Hard worker ... Plays with great intensity and aggressiveness ... Fundamentally solid, does all the little things to help his team win ... A true competitor. Will not back down from anyone ... Wants to take the big shot ... Sees the floor well, and is creative finding teammates for baskets ... Catches and shoots, or can shoot on the move ... Great at moving without the ball ... Finds a way to score against better athletes ... Great leadership ability ...
Weaknesses: Not especially gifted athletically ... Lacks great foot speed getting out into transition ... Runs decent, but needs a head of steam ...Better hand speed than foot speed ... Leaping ability is average ... Plays hard on defense but lacks great lateral quickness ... Lack of a great first step will make it harder to get shots off against superior athletes ...
Player A is Mike Dunleavy.
Player B is Adam Morrison.
This has to be a little scary for whatever team drafts Morrison.
