Luis Flores Actually Coming?

Isn't it completely obvious Garcia put in a good word for his Tournament of the Americas teammate and countryman, the Kings worked him out and thought he had talent, and decided he could be a good player to have around in case Price doesn't pan out or Jason Hart opts out after this year? How does signing a second year pro with barely any NBA experience that every other NBA team has passed on this late in the summer indicate a pending trade? That's just silliness. Either he or Ronnie Price is going to the NBDL (if they make it past training camp) and the other is going to be sitting on the Kings bench for most of the season. It's nothing to get excited about right now. If he winds up being a solid rotation player in a couple years, than the signing was a success. If not, just more water under the bridge.

If GP plans to stash either Ronnie or Flores in the NBDL then what happens with the salary? Doues the NBDL salaries count against your cap or are they used in the Luxury tax calculation? Can you send players down and bring them back up to the big leagues like baseball? Have not really seen much info on how the NBDL will work. anyone have any info on it?

I guess it would make sense to see both Price and Flores in camp then pick the best of the two for the roster as a third PG for Injury insurance

After what Hart did on the Bobcats, he's starter material. Especially after looking at a load of his boxscores.

Hart is not Starter material, yes he put up good numbers last year, but he was on the "BOBCATS", he is a solid point guard to come off the bench on any contending team, but far from starting.

Agreed. Remember, it does take too much to put up good stats on a bad team. Talented, yes. But starter, not yet.

I am not even going to pretend to see the logic in this...

GP is now reaching out for the bottom of the barrel and offering non-guaranteed contracts. We could use a few more bodies in training camp. There are guys who will begin to panic as we get later and later in TDOS. This means they will worry that they won't be playing in the NBA next year and will take non-guaranteed contracts in hopes that they can prove their greatness and value to a team in training camp.

But I think 6th has the right idea. I keep remembering the Chinese PG, David Bluthenthal and even Courtney Alexander from last TDOS.

;)

This was the leading blurb this morning (09/13) on Probasketballnews.com:

Sacramento is close to signing guard Luis Flores, sources close to the situation have indicated. Flores worked out for the Kings on Saturday and a deal is expected to be finalized wthin the next day or two. Flores is a 6-foot-1 guard who played 16 games as an NBA rookie last season -- 15 with Golden State and one with Denver. He averaged 2.2 points and 0.7 assists.

Have no idea what we'd do with yet another poor man's Iverson type, but we seem to be stocking up.
REALY POOR MAN's Iverson...

Maybe he's the new backup frontrunner, and we're packaging Price and some of the Philly 3 for the giant piece of the puzzle we still lack?

Giant piece of the puzzle we still lack? I think I'll wait for the team to play before I go jumping on any conclusion cliffs. And unless one of the starting 5 is going off to somewhere else, I don't see big piece being added to that lineup.

I saw Flores play a little bit a couple of seasons ago and he didn't look too bad. It does seem odd that they would be so serious about this guy and PG's in general. But...could always just be one of those camp invite guys. Remember the name David Bluthenthal? Wasn't he supposed to be the second coming of Peja Stojakovic?

With all due respect to Luis Flores, whoever the hell he is, and his modest basketball exploits, who in their right mind thinks signing some end of the bench roster-filler relative scrub is part of a grand scheme on the part of GP to deliver the final piece to our championship puzzle? The TDOS cannot end soon enough!

Does anyone know if NBA League Pass televises pre-season games? I have to decide whether to subscribe at the start of October or wait til November 1st. Aren't all the pre-season games being televised by Comcast, a first in history of the Sacramento Kings I believe?

Maybe I am being blind, but I do not see them trading Bibby. Why would we? For all of his defensive woes, he is one of the top guards in the NBA. I like the 6th's idea best.

In any case, seeing as Flores barely touched the floor last year (77 total minutes in 16 games), there is not much to go on. So in the absence of other evidence, I hereby present to you my ultra-scientific per 48 min analysis of Luis Flores so that we can witness Geoff's true genius

lmfao...lmfao

i hav i ever told you how much i love you brick? lol jk

but wow, very nice analysis...i like the nuggets killer thing, and i love him vs the lakers....too bad he averages as many turnovers as assists...lol

and i saw 0-12 with 24 points in 48 minutes in there....24 free throws? man is he good at getting fouled

i expect this to be old and ppl to hav already talked about it, im late on the thread, so excuse me por favor? shalom

In the past, League Pass began with the regular season. Usually the 1st week or so is free as a preview.

There is a BIG difference between trading Bibby NOW and Williams THEN. The team is in a different mode now. We were solid and stable at each position then, with a roster full of potential "leaders" who knew the game plan. Now, we may or may not be solid at each position, depending on how the new guys work. That means we are ANYTHING but stable. I do not think we can compare the situations. Of course, I have been wring before!!! I hope that I am NOT wrong this time.

-- Per 48 Luis averaged a nifty 21.8pts on .483 shooting, 50% three point shooting, and 100% free throw shooting! He also chipped in with a nice 6.9 ast/48, although the rebounding left something to be desired at only 1.9/per 48. And unfortunately he also countered those numbers with his 6.9 TO/48 and 5.8 fl/48, but you can't have everything.

-- and the best part is that he got stronger as the year went on! Post All-Star break Luis poured it on with a staggering 36.0pts/48 and starting ripping down boards at 12.0 rebs/per48. Of course the scoring explosion did mean that he quit passing so much and unfortunately he had 0.0 ast/48 after the break. However, I have a suspicion that may have had something to do with him actually only playing in 1 game for 4 minutes post All-Star, so perhaps it can be excused. The other numbers he put up in those 4 minutes are exciting though!

-- DEFENSE: we will also have to watch for Luis's defensive intensity -- in December, he averaged a very respectable 2.67 stl/48. Unfortunately, those were the last steals he recorded on the season, and he was at 0.0 for the remaining 2/3 of his games.

-- PASSING: it also looks like Luis has the makings of a true pure PG if he wants to be -- after all in January he decided to experiment with being pass first and recorded an amazing 13.2 ast/per 48! Of course, on the other hand he coupled that with an equally amazing 9.6 TO/per 48, so maybe he can be our new Mateen. His followup work in February when he dropped down to 4.0 ast/per 48 but soared to 12.0 TO/per 48 was unacceptable however.

-- BY TEAM: Luis showed his Hall of Fame potential last year in completely crushing the Denver Nuggets. He can be our designated Nuggets killer, having averaged a remarkable 54.9 pts/per 48 against them last year, while also finding time to dish out 6.9 ast/per 48 (and his customary 6.9 TO/per 48 just to keep it balanced). The Nuggets were so impressed they picked him up when the Warriors mysteriously released this unsung All-Star. On the other hand I'm not sure he is quite ready to take on the elite teams, as he managed to average 0-12 FGs per 48 against the Suns, along with a disastrous 24.0 TO/per 48. He almost matched that against the Spurs, going 0-16 FG per 48 against them, but partially redeemed himself there with a 16.0 reb/48 average. Finally however, the best news for us is that against the Lakers Luis morphs into Magic Johnson reincarnated, not only pouring in 24.0 pts/per 48, but also dishing out an amazing 24.0 ast/per 48. But the biggest difficulty against L.A. appears to be just keeping him on the court, as he also managed to average 24.0 fls/per 48 against the Lakeshow (doubtless a sign of incredible defensive intensity however).

Quite possibly the best post ever!

Nice job Bricky!

unless we get something huge in return i really wouldnt like to trade bibby right now...........
