For those that haven't heard, our beloved Sign Lady, Barbara Rust was diagnosed with breast cancer this week. Many people see this world as insignificant in the grand scheme of things and tend to not care much for the well being of others as it is simply too overwhelming to channel that much care, commitment and sympathy to the 7 billion+ people on this planet that may experience death, destruction, pain, etc. Which is true to a degree. Not only is there so much one can do, but it's simply the natural circle of life, as insensitive as that may sound.
But, whether one is religious, spiritual, or if you simply believe you're on this planet because you happened to be the strongest to slip in your mother's womb, the one overlapping effect one may have on another human being is the positive energy you emanate towards someone. In this case, this person is Barbara Rust, or Sign Lady, as most her know as. A person who for nearly three decades, kept on standing and supporting our team and fans with endless positive messages. I believe this is the time to give back.
As far as I can remember, as a kid in middle school watching the Kings-Lakers series out here in L.A., I always became giddy whenever I saw Sign Lady in the stands on TV. And giddy in the sense that "There she is! You may beat our team, but we'll always be standing there supporting our team just like she does." And when I made my first trip to ARCO arena (when it was still ARCO a couple of years back), that feeling came shooting right back at me when I saw her in person from the other side of the arena. That person who passed on positive energy to the team, fans and everybody watching on TV was there doing it live for me. Just by standing there, as she always does, with a different sign, but the same undying support.
So, before I start going off on tangents, I would like to extend all the positive energy and support that I was able to garner in this post and pass it on both to Barbara Rust and her loving husband Niko Rust. As stated in the article below, he will passing on all tweets and messages to his wife as she fights her toughest battle to date.
Good luck Barbara! You'll definitely end up standing in the end : )
P.S. For those that don't have twitter, you can either post here or on STR. Don't know if Nico knows about this site, but would appreciate if someone could tweet it to him. Thanks!
Here is the original article from STR in regards to Sign Lady, as well as tweets from players, personnel, Vivek & other from the Kings organization:
