Looks like Bobby is still a backup.

That's a shame for Bobby, IMHO he deserves to be a starter somewhere.

Lets just hope that he can stay healthy and contest for the starting role as the season progresses, or at the very least get some serious minutes, which is something we know he didnt have the opportunity to achieve last season.

Makes one wonder here will Jason end up...?

With this signing, at least on paper, the PG spot looks a bit redundant.

Memphis might be creating more trouble than necessary. Jackson has been saying West and company planned to move Williams, and how he could start, but no promises. Whether he starts or not is very much in the air, with this recent signing. Would Stoudemire sign if he wasn’t lead to believe he would start? Jackson's history and effectiveness as a bench guy will surely come into play.

I would think that Bobby Jackson should be able to compete with Stoudamire. Both are the same kind of PG: shoot first. But Bobby is a better defender and he is bigger. Stoudamire is faster and pushes the tempo, but not by much. Fratello is all about defense and in my view, Bobby has the edge.

White Chocolate will be a Sixer. Mark my words.

Bobby's forte is bringing energy and a shoot first mentality into the game when he's called on and, historically, has done a good job of it and thus increases his value to the team. But, as we have seen, he can also sublimate that aspect of his game and play a traditional PG as a starter as well. So, I guess, it depends on the role he's asked to play and since he does this better than Damon he will probably be asked to do it again.

as long as he doesnt become a laker im good....but he would be a better fit in cleveland than philly.... maybe even indy or minny.... though i wouldnt want that...

I can't see him WITH AI. That just sounds like a dissaster waiting to happen. Sure, C-Webb and JW togher again is appealing, but I just don't think having AI in the mix is a good combo.

this is really too bad....its not for certain, but bobby really deserves to start and memphis should not have signed a third PG...obviously they dont want j-will anymore, and i dont see earl watson resigning there. who knows what they were thinking.

anyways, bobby should start, somewhere. ppl talked about moving j-will to cleveland...how about memphis resigns watson and trades bobby to start w/lebron....i think that would be awesome for bobby and for the cavs.

It's going to be hard for Memphis to get anything in return for Jason Williams. They're going to want shorter or expiring contracts, but considering who they're sending out, basically they have to choose to either get a little bit of talent in return or to not care who they get as long it saves money down the line.

Just to feed into the Philly prediction:
Williams for Aaron McKie and John Salmons works out just fine.

Iverson and Jason Williams, smallest starting backcourt in NBA history?

You know what, the more I think about it, Bobby is a great bench player! That is probably more rare than finding a great starter. It is probably the best role for him anyways. And yes Damon would start over Bobby. Bobby should have a role similar to his in Sacramento. Damon + Bobby = Bibby is in for a rough night!

Damon probably won't play extensive minutes, Bobby will be on the court plenty. Besides, the Grizz need insurance if Jackson goes down again. And is 4 yrs, $17 mil really the money that requires him starting?

Look, everybody knows that Bobby is a great and energetic player, but considering his age, injury plauges and recent inconsitencys I think he could continue to excel coming off the bench as long as he remains healthy. He is very capable of starting but I think his role off the bench is his more effective role

Nothing is set in stone. Training camp will decide who starts.

Anyhow, there are news reports out of Houston saying that Damon stated he hasn't made any agreements with Memphis, and that Houston is still his first choice. Damon is in Houston for McGrady's celebrity baseball game.

i think b-jax deserves a starting role in the nba, but i also think he's more effective coming off the bench. of course, it depends on the system he plays in, but he's not really a conservative, play running, think-first type of point guard. thats not a bad thing at all, though. he's a spark plug. he's the energy you bring off the bench that changes games. stoudemire is as streaky as they come, so b-jax will log plenty of minutes. unfortunately for memphis, both of these PG's can be streaky and ineffective when it comes to running an offense. j-will isnt much better, though he is vastly improved from his sacramento days. one of the three will probably be gone before the start of the season. b-jax is good enough to be a starter in memphis, but i think he's more effective as a sixth man.
