Lockout = Kings rebirth 2.0

I was just thinking could this lockout be just what the Kings need? do you remember Kings back in 1998?

The Kings began the rebuild with a pg JWill, the signing of Vlade and the trade of Richmond for Webber prior to the lockout-shortened Then the arrival of Peja, the Kings improved and became playoff contenders. yeah we dont have Rick Adelman, say what you will he was the best coach Kings have ever had. Petrie is still here and Coachie (I cant believe his heart can handle this and is still here).

While I do wish Byron Scott was at the helm. I think this summer Tyreke needs to take a month or so off but I am not down on the Kid like some are, he is still our star and our future while having a rough season will improve and I like the idea of a seasoned Cousins 1 year more mature. if we win this draft Kings I think WILL draft Kyrie Irving. Irving, Tyreke and Cousins is a wonderful start. not to forget we have cap room to sign a good vet and some shooters. having extra time to heal and grow together I know its SAD to be already looking until next season but maybe this is a blessing. I would rather have one more tough year and have a great chance to get one more good piece in Irving. it is very hard not to get down and depressed about our team but I am trying to stay positive.

I hope Westphal isn't coach next season, I would rather it be Mario Elie.

I could almost get on board with that line of thinking if it weren't for the GD arena issue looming like a dark cloud. Can The Kings afford to be bad for another two or three years and remain in Sacramento? Maybe I'm just preparing for the worst, in case it happens, but I'm really starting to get the feeling that if they don't improve very soon, they won't be here in a few seasons.

There is certainly an encouraging parallel that our last complete turnaround happened to correspond with a lockout and shortened season. We do have the cap space to make an aggressive free agent signing this off-season and adding a potential lottery pick in the mix as well would go a long ways toward improving our talent level. That Webber-Richmond trade is the kind of lopsided trade that only happens once in a franchise's history, however. If we somehow manage to get construction started on a new arena though I'd call it a wash.
