That win counted about as much as a Summer League game, yet it likely cost us a very good shot at a franchise changing player. I still hope we luck out in the lottery, but right now, I'll be very surprised if we don't ultimately end up with the 7th overall pick. (we lose the coin flip to New Jersey and one team jumps in front of us in the lottery). I just hope Petrie will draft Terrence Jones with the 7th overall pick. I know dude is expected to go like 12th or 13th overall or something like that, but I just think he's too talented a player to pass up. He's the only other guy in this draft besides the elite 4 that I really want. (Davis, MKG, Robinson, Barnes)

Whatever. You aren't going to ruin my mood. There's a perfectly good whining thread in the Personnel Moves forum where other like-minded people such as yourself are commiserating about how we're not going to get a decent draft pick, blah, blah, blah. Like I said, I don't agree with it so your argument does nothing to take the smile off my face. The draft has been, is and will be a gamble. The win tonight was good.

I agree, or trade the pick to get a veteran. Also make everyone but Cousins available, with Tyreke needing a "too good to pass up offer" for Petrie to pull the trigger.

Barnes might slip as far as 6th, but I don't see any chance of him slipping to 8 or 9. I'd expect Barnes to be our 4th overall ranked player (unless Drummond really impresses in his workouts). If we have a shot at Barnes, I'm sure we'll take him, but I have a feeling it will be another Joakim Noah / Spencer Hawes situation, and we'll miss him by "that" much. Kendall Marshall might be a pretty good PG his whole career, but it just seems that he isn't overly talented in any specific area. He's good at everything, but he doesn't overwhelm with any specific abilities. I'd think I'd rather have Bradley Beal, despite the logjam at SG.

I think the best scenario might be to trade back to somebody at 10 or 11 and grab Terrence Jones. For example, let's say we trade the 7th overall pick to the team sitting at 10 or 11, and we also include our 2nd round pick. We get their 1st this year, and next year. We use their 10th or 11th pick to take Terrence Jones. (only downside in this scenario is that we have to make sure we have a contingency plan just in case somebody before us takes Jones)

I'm getting super pumped for the draft...ugh...i want it now. To be honest their is a lot of talent, even at the 6-9 spots... I'd be happy with Drummond, Barnes, Marshall, or T.Jones. And their is a small possibility we'll have our choice between the 3-4 of them if we don't get screwed.

You realize even if we lost we could have ended up with the 5 spot after the coin flip and still can end there with winning the coin flip.

Whoever the coach throws on the floor I want to play as hard as they can to get the win. You want to be mad? Be mad at the coach/GP/MSE for the decision on who to play - your anger is misdirected when pointed at those here. You don't want the team on the floor to win? Find a different team to follow. I don't want quitters playing on my team.

You know- I am bummed with you about the win, because I do think it hurts our draft prospects significantly. However, it takes two teams to make sure we lose. Our chances of losing the game were virtually non-existent when the Lakers announced they were sitting Bryant, Gasol, and Bynum, and couldn't play Artest. Maybe you would have preferred that we sat Cuz and Reke (though Cuz clearly wanted to play, and wanted to stay out as long as possible to get a 20/20 game), but even sitting Reke and Cuz, I still think we had more talent to put on our HOME floor than the Lakers.

My point is that no one on the Lakers wanted or needed to win. You could have put any 5 man iteration of our roster on the floor (Jimmer, Cisco, Honeycutt, Outlaw, and Whiteside) and they probably would have been more motivated and likely to win their last game of the season (at home) than the Lakers were.

This game was won before the ball was tipped, and there is nothing that really could have been done about it. So, with that said, nothing left to do but enjoy a 48 minute beat down of the Lakers.

We've certainly seen that nothing is guaranteed in the lottery, I'm just not going to get worked up over this. We've seen teams one or two slots down from us leap up to top 3 all the time.

In any event, I still think the lottery formula should be fixed to reduce tanking, like take a league snapshot on the day the first team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs or similar to protect the integrity of the schedule. We've seen tanking effect both lottery position and playoff seeds before, I think the latter is far more dangerous.

This is kind of my attitude. With how poorly we develop players, and now all this talk of GP making Reke available to trade...Its kinda like, whats the point of even drafting potential superstars? We'll just F it up, at least until GP, Smart, and the Maloofs are out of town.

We would have been in a three way tie for third had we lost. Going to a two way tie for fith doesn't seem that much of a difference. We have had bad luck the last two drafts with our positioning so I can only hope the pendulum swings our way this time.

It does bring up another point though. How can they say it is bad to tank for position in the draft when a playoff team tanks to rest its starters for the playoffs and BTW also screws a rivals draft position?

Lakers didnt tank, their playoff position was set, they were just doing the smart thing and not risking any key players to injury in a pointless game. If they had something to gain by losing, then it would be tanking. But they didnt, they just had nothing to gain by winning.

Real fans like to win regardless of of the circumstances. Franchise players have been found from picks 2-30. You just have too have the right gm to find those players. I believe we do. If we wished to get the best chance at the #1 pick we should have started tanking from the very beginning because lets face it, we weren't going to be a playoff team this year. I want to see my team give it there all. Thats what I pay money to see. I will never root for my team to lose just for a draft pick. If you do go root for the Bobcats.
