lets not get ahead of ourselves-Revisited!!!!!!!!!!

started a thread a couple days ago. "tyrant is always right". it was closed for certain reasons, so i wanted to revisit this thread which is what i shouldve done in the 1st place. kings are on another losing streak. and just when you think they're starting to look like a team. it took a few days to go from smooth mayo to tangy mustard. again artest takes more shots than anyone on the team. unleashing a jordan-esque night as one of his many "showcases" to help get his tail outta here. rockets win, martin stinks. a bumblebee told me justin got 12 boards and 1 block last night. when was the last time moore or thomas got over 10? was it even this year? the trade deadline is 1 week from today. desperate for any kind of trade that'll make this team competitive. now at 23-28 this record is beginning to resemble the "muss" days. just great:cool:

i hope we can turn it around so i can say i was wrong

So close to .500. You can't compensate for skill, talent, athleticism with....well whoever those people were in kings uniforms. Our bench made the difference 2nite. Tonight was an inspiring win, But this isn't a 16 game season. Its an 82 game season. And depending on how many teams suck and how many are "contenders" We only have so many tries to knock off some good clubs. not even a team full of kenny thomas' will lose them all. 48 minutes of bricked jumpers and short baby hooks. Has the same effect on your stomach as half baked garlic toast. I still think we need a trade or two to be contenders again. This team is lookin alright for now. still not of relevancy, But Not As pathetic as last season. Again, tonight was an example of how much the NFL bites! HERE, the better team never loses. (Thanks to the playoff structure). Reading through the pages we're winning impressive games here and there, but if you read between the lines you will see that the suckage never really goes away. We're just happy with the big "win". Its like the joy of winning 10,000 at one time but you quietly gambled away 30. we will continue to gift wrap games to crappier teams because that's what we really do best. As long as we have artest.

It's one thing to be negative in a thread to bring some of the optimists back to reality. It's another thing entirely to start a thread where you anticipate the optimists and pee on their night before they can even speak.

Seriously man, sit down, have a beer, kick the dog if you have to, and then enjoy the win and be glad your favorite team aren't the Knicks, Heat or dozen or so teams that wish they had the talent and the coaching that the Kings have.

I'm sorry but nothing and I mean nothing calls for this. ;)

lol this thread is almost too typical of this board in general.

weird it took something like this this long to pop up

No one i s saying you can't root for the team to win. I'm not even saying you can't be happy after a win. But last night was just another example of how hard this team can play if they apply themselves. I dare anyone to predict the next 5 games. This team goes up and down more than an amusement park ride. Too bad we don't have its foundation. That'll save a lot of craches

Since the team is back together and healthy, what is the record???

It isnt just up and down.

The team seems to be playing better now that it is only missing one starter, SAR. It will always happen that a certain number of games will be lost that should have been won and that a certain number will be won that should have been lost.

It seems to be characteristic that either the wins stand out more than the losses or vice versa.

I can get very excited about a win and still want to trade both Artest and Bibby for good young talent.

SAR is not a starter anymore. He just isn't that good.

When people talk about this team being missing 3 starters, I feel the need to point out that if it were not for SAR's knee problems, he would be the starter at power forward because Mikki just isn't that good.

Moore offers better man on man D than SAR could ever give us. SAR's offense is a bit more polished though, and he would probably be the starter since Theus like energy guys coming off the bench. So because of default (SAR has a low post game which our starters lack, and Moore is an energyu guy) Theus would probably start SAR.

Your right, Mikki just isn't that good. However, he may still be better than SAR with a healthy need.

Since everyone has come back they have steadily gotten better. It took some time for chemistry to kick in, and it has. The loss to Seattle was because 2 people that have been very important to the success of this team this season were out. As soon as they came the Kings played as good as they had the game prior to that. So, I disagree this team has talent. There are still a few more moves to make, and salary to come off the books in the next couple years, and then it's just a matter of time. One of the important things is that the proper coaching staff is in place.

Progress is happening and that's all you could ask for.

That's ridiculous; when Abdur-Rahim's worst season ever (9.9/5.0/1.4/0.7/0.5) matches up very favorably against Moore's best season ever (9.8/5.1/0.9/0.6/0.5), it's a stretch at best to say that Moore would start over a healthy Abdur-Rahim.

Since everyone has come back

But they haven't. I agree with what you are saying otherwise. I am obnoxiously making a point out of this issue because Petrie's reputation and skills are being attacked. Petrie put together a team that consisted of these starters:

Bibby/Beno/Dahntay
Martin/Cisco/Douby
Artest/Salmons
SAR/Moore/Williams
Miller/Hawes

The team he put together has never been together nor will it ever be together. He is being blamed for his stupidity but his team has been decimated by injury. We are seeing that when it is one piece minus one, it is better than at the beginning of the year and although some will argue otherwise, wouldn't the team he had put together have done as well in the playoffs as most Kings teams and be a decent team to have in place while the youngsters mature?

If it were not for injuries, there is no way this team would have sunk below .500 and there would still be young players on the bench to learn their craft and step in when the time was appropriate.

SAR's knees are degenerating, as the media let us know when NJ turned him down. I don't know who it was that decided that he should have a 5 year contract despite that, whether Geoff, Granny Maloof, or whoever, but some person(s) took a very big risk, which is not paying off. That may or may not be blameworthy, but I have a hard time considering it a valid excuse for other problems.

I just thought of my post.. Isn't Hawes better than SAR at this point? Hawes is a better rebounder. passer, has better low post moves, and is better defensively.

So.. Gary, you are wrong! Theus would start Moore, because Hawes is better than SAR and you don't see us starting Hawes :D

Moore has energy, moves well and knows that it is often best if he passes the ball to someone else. SAR cannot say any of this.

I've been ubercritical of Shareef, but I want to give him credit right now for being a true teammate. I've noticed him numerous times on the sidelines, cheering loudly and encouraging the kids on the team. He's there every night and he doesn't just sit there and pout, but is an active participant in huddles and discussions. Whether he ever plays again or not, SAR at least brings a good attitude and outlook to the team.

Sometimes vets are just as useful off the court as they are on the court. Knowing his season is over, SAR could have just said, "thank you very much, I'll see you in the fall." But he didn't. He doesn't strike me as the type of person who just collects a paycheck. He very well could be doing quite a bit of mentoring.

BTW, this is nothing like the Muss team. There is much more hope and promise for the future - especially if pieces are moved.

I totally agree about the future and that pieces need moved. Artest helped with his game last night. After All-Star weekend we could very well have a new roster.

i dont know what to say, for the last 2 years I have been waiting for a star. we cant even get anybody to rep us at all stars. i really dont think petrie will pull trigger on any trade. artest will walk. then all we will hear is where will mike bibby for for a year and bibby will walk after next.

i disagree. all health liabilities must go. there is no purpose riding the pine. but if there were, the purpose would be to serve as a warning to other GM's. saying "this is what happens when you try to cover musty arm pits with cologne

Shareef sounds like a good character guy, far cry from injured, spoiled players who won't even show up for their team's games, let alone cheer for them. That being said, he sounds like he's finished this year as a player with those bad wheels. Who knows how much he has left next year too.

I have to remind you that bibby is up for an extention in the summer. Ron is going to do what he does. And hopefully that involves a sign and trade with a certain hawks player i wont mention because i dont want to jinks it. And established stars aren't attracted to Sacramento, for reasons i feel everyone already understand. I should also remind myself that the kings are handcuffed by salary issues. All in all, it wasn't a waste of a season. The stocks have risen for Garcia, Beno, Martin, even Douby improved, and Hawes doesn't look that bad. Its a small step foward, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Yeah, i know and agree with everything you said. kings are making progress, with Coach T, and Garcia, Beno, Martin, even Douby improved, and Hawes, brad and john.

not so much with Kenny, Bibby and artest.

I maybe the only one but.....I think bibby is kinda garbage now... he isnt the shooter he used to be, and I think it vlade and webber in their prime were here now, bibby still wouldnt be like the bibby of 2000. i really think he has lost a few steps.

So what do you want them to do? Take Shareef out and shoot him like a plow horse with a broken leg?

Warning to other GMs? That's just absurd.

EVERY team suffers through players with injuries. Health liabilities? Stepping on the court itself is a liability. EVERY single player in the league is one bad step away from an ankle injury or worse. SAR is NOT part of our current problems on the court. He is, in fact, just the opposite. He's instilling a sense of team to the guys who don't get many minutes by always being there when there is NO requirement for him to do so. We paid Brent Price for an entire year while he sat home with a bad back and never came within 20 miles of a game.

Players have various traits that are valuable to a team even if they never step onto the court. SAR is one of them. Regardless of his physical condition right now, he's a good mentor to some of the kids and a valuable example of what a good teammate should be.
