I haven't posted on KF on quite a while but I've been on this website for years reading everything. Well I'm back. Lol Lets look at the brightside and maybe try to understand PDA's logic. I was a bit upset at some of the moves that were made but now that I thought about it. I kinda like where he is going with this. Sure they said they wanted to stress defense and how it will be played. here i's a checklist of reasons why this makes sense.

1. Look at the Warriors last year as an example. No great individual defenders. Mainly shooters or "mini chuckers" as we like to call them. Although I mean this is Steph Curry we are talking about as well as Klay Thompson but at the a same time they aren't shut down defenders. Harrison Barnes, David Lee, and Andrew Bogut. As well as our beloved Carl Landry and Jarrett Jack. Not a great defensive group if you look at those names. But look at their opponents field goal percentage. 4th in the league!? Where were we? 28th. And their individual defenders I don’t feel were far and away better than us as individuals at least. I think we could all agree on that one.
2. We now have that same system in place with Malone. Sure Tyreke is gone(get to that later) but we can still play great team d. Even in our glory years we were in 8th place and with the exception of Christie, we didn't have a lockdown defender on our team. We just played great team d. I think we can move up at least a few spots...... this guy knows his stuff
3. The trade of Vasquez. I love it. He had the most assists in the league last year. Averaged 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] most but put out the most assists. We havent seen passing like that since the glory years. Who did he have to pass too last season?
Eric Gordon only played 42 games. He made it happen with Anthony Davis, Robin Lopez, and Ryan Anderson. I think we have more talented players when guided the right way than that bench. Imagine what he can do with one of the top scoring teams and a real head coach.
Tyreke is great. Our best all around player, can do it all when his mind is right but he did not fit in well with the rest of the team. We needed someone who could open the floor instead of go straight to hoop and crowd it. Vasquez creates space and opens up the floor. Just watch. They havent even played a pickup game yet and you already hate him.
But look what we did. Saved 9 million in cap space, wills have even more if they amnesty Salmons to get another big name player or try to put a trade together. It’s not over yet. It’s been six days!!!
4. We got the best player in the draft. I was shocked to see him fall to seven. I was jumping up and down at work when I heard that news. Vivek was right 7 was heaven. I don’t know how anyone could argue by getting the guy who should have been number one at 7 without giving up anything.
5. Signing Carl Landry. Wooo big signing of the offseason!!! Now I’m just as excited as every Kings fans there is about this. But look at what we have. Demarcus, JT, Patterson, Landry and Hayes. 3 backup big men that can all contribute. How is that bad. Think of the depth we have. Their not scrubs.
6. Look at the rest of our team. Position by position.
PG Vasquez/IT/Jimmer We have the leading assist man in the league and is only going to get better, a potential sixth man of the year, and if used correctly and amazing spot up shooter. That’s our backcourt!!! It could be worse guys.
SG Mclemore/Thornton/Jimmer The best player in the draft who has superstar potential. Even Lebron said we got a good one. Another spark plug potential sixth man of the year. I don’t think Malone will allow his mini chucker ways anymore as well. This isn’t that bad.
SF Too be determined. Amensty them all!!! Lol Its only July guys, We have almost four months tons of cap space to make something happen. The dawn of a new day is just beginning.
PF JT/Patterson/Landry The most consistent King on our roster backed up by more consistent Kings.
C Cousins/ Hayes Potentially the best center in the game. He’s only getting better and we have a defensive minded mini center. It’s not the end of the world.
And we have a whole new coaching staff that I believe finally gets it. We could go on and on about it.
Potentially a great point guard whose only getting better, another potential superstar at SG, and soon the best big man in the league. They’re not going to let Cuz go. I’m feeling pretty good about this. Were not the Miami Heat and Lebron isn’t coming but for what we can do, I’m happy.
7. Most importantly we have our Sacramento Kings. Rome wasn’t built in six days.
Look at the bright side Kings Fans!!!!

Thanks for the post. I am not at all upset by what has happened in the past couple of weeks. I am still feeling like we won the championship this year with all that happened with the ownership change, keeping the Kings, new arena etc. Plus, I have no problem with the FO completely dismantling the team if that is what they wish to do. There are no sacred cows on a team with as few wins as we have had in the past few years.

nope maybe 8-9 mil somewhere in that range. But there aren't any FA out there what would warrant a contract higher than 4-5 at SF. if we go free agency now it will be a lower 2nd tier type player. Our SF HAS to come via trade. we might could get Dalembert with 8-9 mil. doesn't appear we are looking in that direction yet. Probably don't want to commit to that until you unload one of our bigs or two.

So it’s thread closing time in other areas. Here is what’s junk about the you can’t get mad now crowd (I’ve been saying you shouldn't get mad on the merits) At least this person is saying shouldn't. That's fair.

Dave and other have been saying fans shouldn’t be assessing the impact of these moves for an unclear period of time – somewhere between a couple of games into the season and a matter of months – because the off-season isn’t over and the team hasn’t started playing games. And that theory doesn’t hold up. If the Kings drafted the 12th man on Georgetown at 7 or signed T-Mac to a max deal this week, you could clearly say the team is headed in the wrong direction. You can form an opinion that a team is poorly constructed before they start playing games.

Bill Simmons made some very strong remarks about the construction of the 2012-13 Kings before the season started, a lot of folks said what does that comedian know, and a lot of what he said came to pass.

What several of us said, prior to Ellis was: (1) these moves aren’t bad enough; and (2) the overall plan could shape up in a fashion where, the team might not be headed in the wrong direction.

But that’s not what Dave and others are saying. He’s not taking any position on the merits of the move … its wait and see. He’s saying these guys are new, cut them some slack, and don’t rush to judgment. That’s a fine opinion to have … but I frankly think it’s colored with these guys I really like just wildly overpaid for the team and are hoping to ride some goodwill for 2 years until they get into the new building. And it's not a defense of the moves. It's a plea not to judge them harshly. The Ellis interest is horrible and further colors the Landry move … it suggest these owners want to win a little now to put air into the balloon and perhaps try to rebuild in the middle of the pack like the Rockets and Pacers did and that would be a plan above PDA's call. That’s a really bad move. It's fair to debate that because a bad plan right now can impact for a long time.

As the Ellis process unfold, it’s going to color peoples view strongly and add more clarity to the Evans and Landry moves. I get why folks want to stop the prison riot … but it’s going to flare up and permeate a lot of the board for another 4-10 days.

Landry is precisely the kind of vet they need, a taller version of Hayes, both of which play their roles at 100% all the time. Getting a group to buy into the team concept can do for defense what the Warriors did. They are a buch of shootists someone said, but their shooting defense was 4th best in the league! The Kings were 28th. Nuff said about benefits of achieving team play.

Choosing sides? That's the issue, if we are all KingsFans then there are no "sides". Comments and opinions for sure. My "side" is getting to team ball and the culture it takes to get there which does not happen in a month or even half a season.

I agree for sure, about this part. We're having a debate here which I think is valid. Some people have chosen to make it personal, but the actual discussion taking place behind all of that is still worth having I think.

Which is a perfectly reasonable point of view, in fact I agree with this as well. It's not really the end goal that has ever been in question, we all want that. It's regarding the process of getting there where we've had some ... differences.

Right. Landry is a taller version of Hayes and almost exactly like Patterson. Shorter than JT. We have 4 nearly-identical "know-their-role good leadership, team" guys at the 4.

We have absolutely no talent at the 3 and we have overstock at the guards.

If the rumors are true, we are trying to free up space for Monta yet wouldn't free up space for Reke.

Landry isn't like Hayes or Patterson. Hayes is strictly a post defender with decent high post passing skills. Patterson is an energy/stretch 4. Landry is legit low post scoring option that can hit the 17-18 foot jumper, average defender/rebounder(improved since last Kings stint).

I would say Landry, Patterson, and JT are all at about the same level of overall talent/worth, but all 3 are different types of players. The benefit of JT/Landry is you get similar production all game long from your PF spot while also constantly rotating a fresh body in there. Here's your generalization. 3 undersized guys for their position, 2 severely overpaid, who do 1 or 2 things well but have major deficiencies in other areas.

I personally see the possibility of something big with this approach... I like it.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it would be to combine their salaries together -- that's $12M per season. For that kind of money, looking around the league, you can sign a borderline All-Star and then add a rookie or a minimum salary guy to play 8-10 minutes off the bench. Isn't 38-40 minutes a game of top level production better than 48 minutes per game of decent production? Maybe there's nobody available right now that would be worth that level of commitment, but what about next season? Or the season after that? I'm perfectly willing to be patient regarding the acquisition of key guys. But with Thompson and Landry we are committed to $12M per season for the next four years. That borderline All-Star guy is now off the table.

24 mpg each or thereabouts will keep their legs fresh... you might actually outproduce the better player/scrub combo in the long run. I mean more energy means more defensive effort for sure, more offensive rebounds, more hustle plays... might work.
