Lawson to replace Bird

The Sacramento Monarchs today announced that guard Kara Lawson will make her first All-Star appearance as selected by WNBA President Donna Orender. Lawson, a D.C. area native, returns home for the Sunday, July 15, All-Star Game at Verizon Center, and will replace injured Seattle guard Sue Bird, as a reserve for the Western Conference.

Official Announcement

Congrats Kara!

Congrats to Kara! This will be her first ASG as a player! :)

The last few days must be really exciting for her: her accepting a marriage proposal, and now this. IIRC, Kara is from near the DC area, correct? (I know Rebekkah is definitely from DC)

Wait a second; Burke just said during the Sky/Shock games that coaches can't name their own players... if that's at all true, who named Lawson and Brunson?

Brunson was picked by the other coaches in the Western Conference. Lawson was picked by Donna Orender to replace Sue Bird.
Damn, so what does Cash and Smith not making it as reserves say about what the Eastern coaches think of them?
