Latest Twitter rumor - hot air or substance?

I think Smith not going anywhere for now, maybe at trade deadline.

Time to move on and sign Eric Moreland to be the shot blocker for this team going forward.

The Kings will have a ton of expiring contracts to use at the trade deadline, if they can't get anything done in the off season.

Looks like Josh Smith is staying put for now. All the talk of needing to make some moves is not going to come to life, I can understand why...we just don't have enough attractive assets to get somebody like Rondo or Bledsoe. I'm hoping maybe around the trade deadline we revisit our options and hopefully a team will look to move a player who can help us.

I cannot believe KHTKcallers1140 was wrong! o_O:rolleyes:

Well, technically we don't know that he/she was wrong. The rumors were that the Kings had offers on the table to both Detroit and Boston, not that Detroit and Boston were seriously considering them. ;)

I'm not too concerned about not getting other marquee players at this point. If we can change the way we played last season to what I have been seeing in summer league (unselfish play, no heroes for the most part), I think that would equate immediately to an extra 10 wins or so. Most impressive is the defensive effort. If all of this can translate to the real Kings squad, I think we become a much better team, especially with a full season of Cousins and Gay and with the added "hopeful" improvements made by Ben and others with Nik and most likely Brooks holding down the bench. If we can demonstrate to the rest of the league we aren't the pushovers of last season, then maybe, just maybe, a well known name says to themselves "maybe that wouldn't be such a bad place to go after all, and I could be the missing link." The chances of that are minute, but you never know.

Smith trade not going to happen. Time to move on. Maybe this will be re-visited at the trade deadline.

The kings will need to find a new trade target, Larry sanders? Or just wait to see what's available at the trade deadline.

I would love to be able to get Rondo. Only worry is what he's going to demand after this year, which is a lot. But the Kings by the very nature of the business are going to have to trade for big names, as we can't attract them in free agency. Hoping the Kings have some more moves up their sleeves.

As for Smith I think we were all hoping that SVG would just give him away to be rid of him. Unfortunately it sounds like he's holding firm on getting some value out of him, and the Kings don't have much to offer.

I keep forgetting about Monroe. this is a weird situation. Are teams not interested in him? I thought he was an awesome, young prospect.

Don't say that.

Monroe might be able to approach 20-10 in the right situation. Very skilled player. He's not Cuz, but he's one o f the best offensive centers in the game if he's played there and featured.
Plus Monroe has a better attitude and can defend a bit better. JT is the master of the slap and whine.

And now no that's too much the other way.

JT was at times an actual impact defender for us last year. Not a shotblocker, but he really got into some of the best bigs in the league. Monroe can't defend a mannequin however. that's the great problem there. Too slow for PFs. Can't show and recover. No rim protection as a C.

yikes. well, thanks for that. He's off my wish list then

Monroes passing always impresses me, the guy can really pass the ball. Other than that I've never seen the fuss. But that is on very limited viewings.

By got in do you mean foul and send to the line? Who is this mythical JT you speak of? Put on any game you will see the defense starting with his hands. Rarely is he in position.

In a true Kings fashion of late, we are in rumours all the time where we are after Rondo, Love, Smith, Bledsoe etc... yet we somehow end up empty handed again! :(

We are in a really difficult spot and we have to be really careful about how we proceed from here. The last thing we want to do is repeat what Cavs did with LeBron the first time around. We need to make sure that we put a quality team around Cousins one way or another.

It certainly has not been easy having that JJ Hickson trade haunting us to this minute. The restriction on that pick is serious handicap for us at the moment.

Sometimes you have to make your own luck. Yes I know a silly old saying, but I think it applies. The Kings are going to have to get something out of the players they have or can obtain on the cheap. If one of Moreland or Oriakhi can develop into a solid NBA rotation player that is how you can do it.

I can see a platoon of tough hard nosed Bigs surrounding Cousins and Gay. Guys that get their shots on their own through steals and put backs. JT, Evans, Landry and one or both of the above makes for a lot of depth and flexibility at the 4 and 5 spot.

Of course if another NBA team wants to trade their established Big defensive stalwart for a couple players the Kings don't need and a first rounder in 2020 that would be great. It does seem unlikely at this point. If Pete pulls that off even Brick will have to create a new nickname,

Lets see what could Pete's new nickname be if he pulls off a trade for a solid Big defensive goalie?

How about Yoda?

given that the josh smith trade talk has appeared to die down considerably, i have to wonder what happens next. both PDA and coach malone have each made the declaration that the kings can't return with the same team next season, and i'm not sure that drafting nik stauskas, signing darren collison, and moving on from IT qualify as the changes that everybody was hoping for...

it'd certainly be a marginally different team under those circumstances alone (and perhaps a marginally better one), but i don't think that's what the kings brass had in mind heading into this offseason. throwing eric moreland and/or omri casspi onto the pile doesn't seem to enhance the big picture by any significant amount, either. i get the sense that the kings really want another splashy acquisition. if josh smith is off the table, i wonder if the kings revisit the idea of larry sanders, despite registering little interest in him previously. i'm not sure what other "buy low" options are available...

as fans, we may end up in yet another holding pattern, waiting for a mid-season trade or a deadline deal to bring back the kind of complementary talent that just might help put the kings into the playoff conversation...
