Lakers vs. Jazz (11/30) [Kobe vs. Jazz]

4cwebb

Starter
Lakers with a 42 point quarter to take a 22 point lead into the 4th quarter, 95-72.

Kobe, on the other hand, wasn't playing so well, and was down by over 20 at halftime (what with the fact that Kobe had only scored 22 points by halftime). But Kobe got it going in the third quarter, scoring 30 points to the Jazz's 32, so he's heating up and could make this a much closer game of 1 on 5 if he plays in the 4th.

Good god, if you didn't see this, you missed something incredible.

THIRTY point 3rd quarter, 3 off George Gerwin's record for a third quarter. That was a playstation-esque performance. He single-handedly dismantled the Jazz.

Not to mention, the whole team was on fire. I think during the third quarter, they shot something like 75 percent.

I'm still amazed by this

And this happened as soon as Sloan assigned Kirilenko to guard Kobe in 2nd half ... oops.

This is why. Here is what Kirilenko said after the last game they played a week ago

"When I guard him, I don't remember him scoring any points," said Kirilenko, who rushed to avoid making that sound like a boast. "Don't get me wrong, next game will be different. He will take it personally. But I did my part for tonight."

When will people learn not to say things like this to Kobe?

People tried the same thing with Jordan. That always worked well.

What do you mean?

Well I haven't really seen Ron shoot his mouth when it comes to guarding Kobe. He acknowledges Kobe as a great player. Once, I think a question was posed to Ron on whether Kobe could ever score 81 pts on him. His response was merely that if Kobe scored 80 pts against him, his job is to stop him from scoring 81. Or something to that effect.

Old hat, muh man. He's had countless quarters like this one. Hottest "hot" player ever imo. He has three 9 trey games and he's not a good three point shooter. When he's on, it's surreal. When he's off, it's ugly, but I don't wanna talk about that. ;)

Aside: Kobe above any other player makes me realize how much a 50 pt game is taken for granted. Redd torched the hell out of them this week and he didn't even break 50. Kobe otoh got 52 tonight so easily.

LA has had only 3 fifty pt games against them since 1990 (if not earlier). Kobe's had 12 fifty pt games in just over 6 years. Shaq had only 2 w/ LA and he played almost the entire game each time. Each of the 3 instances where an opponent scored 50 pts, the game went to OT.

54 Jordan 1992/93
50 Marbury 2000/01
53 Houston 2002/03

Kobe's had 4 50+ games in only 3 quarters.

Just a ridiculous scoring barrage tonight...wish I could've watched it...and for all you Laker/Kobe fans out there, Ric Bucher leads off the Daily Dime on espn.com...I don't think I've read a "national" writer than loves Kobe more than Bucher.

Oh man I feel like an idiot I missed this! I woke up real early yesterday and fell asleep during the 1st quarter...

Kobe:

"On guarding Michael Redd
I can't wait for the challenge.

Scoring, passing, rebounding and steals are great.

But I pride myself on guarding the best the opposition has to offer."

:)

Kobe actually didsay in the postgame interview that he felt like he was playing playstation when he was out there. Thats so cool.

Haha. Yeah, he biffed that one, but he did correctly call something. He said before the game that if he saw any Utah papers claiming that AK shut him down in the 4th qtr at Delta Center, then he was gonna gun for him at Staples. One of them apparently did.

Glad to NOT see the vs or @ Sac in that list! :D

^ This is off topic, but Gargamel, who's in your picture, the dad from the Brady Bunch?:o lol... I've been wondering....

No, no, Robert Reed was the SECOND best actor of all time. Jack's the best. ;)

Don't know if you know this, but incidentally Reed had been around the block a few times. Our pal Geraldo (under his former white stage name Jerry Rivers) outed him among other gay celebs on one of his shows. Reed died of cancer facilitated by AIDS in 92.

Best three point shooter ever? No way! While Kobe can shoot from the 3, he is not known as a 3 pt shooter....it is not normally what he does.

And ever? There are many NBA players, past and present, who might have something to say about that. Ray Allen and Pedja Stojakovic are (or have been) way better. And there are many more as well.

Oh my.

You might want to think about reconsidering that statement. Gargamel is not only a long-time KNOWLEDGEABLE Lakers fan, he is a virtual encyclopedia of information about Kobe.
