Kurt Thomas to Spurs

This means the Sonics got THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS just for taking on Thomas' deal from Phoenix for half a season and hten trading him onto San Antonio. Goodness gracious. Let's clear some freaking cap room.

what a coup for the sonics. turned nothing into something literally.

nbrans don't speak of those things. :) capspace isn't important.. we still need the vets to mentor the young ones. ;)

truly a coup -- for all that they are a lauhgingstock now and goign to move cities, that team is abssolutely loaded with futrue caprooom and draft picks. If they were staying ion Seattle, the one day future power region out West could have been the Northwest battle between Portland/Seattle rather the Texas Triangle.

The Spurs continual sacking of young talent in the form of draft picks and their penchance for going for the older, proven guys at the twilight of their careers may prove to be their demise long-term. That's nothing against Thomas, as he's having a very nice season and is ever so prominent this year in playing tough post/perimeter defense while crashing the boards well, and while he's a definite upgrade IMO over Francisco Elson and one-dimensional hustler Frabricio Oberto, he's already 35ish and already on his decline. The Spurs note that Robert Horry is only getting older, but they should be swaying towards productive young bigs rather than battle-tested vets--they've had enough of them.

Tim Duncan is not getting any younger, win now, worry later -though with Tiago Splitter & Ian Mahinmi waiting in the wing, i must say the Spurs have their bigman position covered regarding young talents -swingmen spot is pretty dire though.
