Kurt Rambis no longer candidate for the Kings head coaching job?

While I can see why the writer would make this assumption, and that's all it is, I would not bet on Rambis being out of the picture altogether.

Actually, Rambis is officially OUT of the running to be the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings. Living in Los Angeles, I heard the radio interview Rambis gave on AM 570 on the "Petros and Money" show yesterday (6/13).

Right away Rambis told the hosts that "Kings management informed him that they were going in a different direction." Rambis sounded very disappointed in the decision, and actually sort of slipped up by saying, "Looks like I'm going to be stuck helping coach the Lak... err, I mean, looks like the Lakers are stuck with me next year." (nervous laughter).

With all the drama going on in La La Land, Rambis sounded like he is dreading his return to the bench (can't blame him). But once again, this is straight from the mouth of Rambis saying he is in fact out of the running for our head coaching position. If you're curious, you might still be able to listen to the podcast on AM 570 which took place in the first hour of the show.

OMG. What could be MORE going in a different direction than Bozo?

:p

That's too bad!! I thought he would be a good coach with his experience and petigre.

Of course Kings management has absolutely no idea what direction that is...

Rambis must have really bombed that 2nd interview -- so far as can be told he's the only non-incarcerated man on the planet who has been eliminated at this point.

Well, that's straight from the guy. I don't think Rambis would've been so bad. AS VF pointed out, tho, why hire Rambis, if Bozo, the one-legged monkey, is still available? ;)

What kind of coaching search is this? So are they just going to work backwards and slowly eliminate candidates until one is left. I suppose it works but seems like you're guaranteed a less than optimal result.

Seems like taking all the remaining candidates and unleashing them on an island to play Survivor would be a more effective way to pick someone.

Easy for you to say. You got the Greg Oden of the season.

;)

Maybe that IS the plan. Contact Mark Burnett with an idea for a new reality show..."Who wants to coach in the NBA?" 2 Millionaire Playboys bring 14 average Joes who what to coach NBA ball to a luxery Hotel in Las Vegas. Each week various coaching related challanges are presented to the contestants and the poorest performers are shown the door. In the seaosn fainale in November the last 2 prospects are given scrimiage teames at the Kings Preseason camp the wining coach gets a one year NBA contract and a $2,000 Combo Meal. Instant advertising for Carl Jr., and of course The Palms Casino.

Well Rambis was my pick (oh well) -- for the sole reason that I liked the idea of him standing on the sidelines in his big glasses watching us not win in the last minute -- a nice diversion like Bricklayer's theme grades. Anyway my hope was that we would hire a long-time assistant NBA coach with some head-coaching experience at the NBA level or success at the college level who's name isn't Musselman (+/- a few mispelled letters).
