Kobe changing his jersey #?

I did not get to see the story on ESPN, but the lead in was that next season, Kobe would be changing his jersey # for some reason. Anyone know what that is all about?

if he changes his jersey all the kobe/LA lover will have to get a kobe jersey number 24....lol

who knows why....kinda weird tho

It's in honor of Fred Roberts, who wore it back in 96.

He's gonna tell his reasons today, supposedly. Twenty-fo was the first number he wore in HS. Plus, LAL have had 2 unis since 67, they aren't going to be changing them any time soon. Could be to see how well his new jersey sells, considering that you can only buy so many 8s.

Predictable is one thing he's not I guess.

All the 12 year olds at LG and CL are whining up a storm. Retards discussing the inherent superiority of 8 vs 24.

But he didn't choose #23... LeBron (self appointed "King James") wears that and nobody's given him any crap for it.

I didn't mean he was changing to 23. I meant he's going one number higher than Jordan. It's just interesting that he would choose that number. Has there been any public explanation yet?? Maybe sending a little message?? One upping Jordan? That's my conspiracy theory. It may not be true, but it's fun to talk about.

By default, that means he's 1 < Nick Anderson.

Here you go:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2421874

Bryant began his career at Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa., wearing No. 24. But by 1996 -- the year he led the school to the state championship -- he had switched to No. 33, the number his father Joe "Jelly Bean" Bryant wore in high school.

When Bryant came into the league, he couldn't take the No. 33 because it had been retired seven years earlier by the Lakers in honor of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Bryant arrived at the No. 8 for two reasons. It was the number he wore when he was a kid playing in Italy. It also tied into the number he wore at Adidas' ABCD Camp, 143. The numbers add up to 8.

From an avowed HATER:

Two thoughts....1. If he wanted to be a real jerk, he'd wear #34 (Who's # would they be retiring then?)

2. He's anticipating the need for bail money.:p

Edit: Nevermind.

Anyways, he either did it because he multiplied his rings and his number(3x8=24) or to try to one up Michael Jordan-literally.

I've done a lot of soul searching over this and thought very deep thoughts.

In the entire universe of all things relating to basketball, I place this at the VERY bottom of the list in order of relative importance. I'm surprised he didnt just announce he's going to have a jersey without a number since everyone knows who he is anyway.

at least he didnt up it to 9.... that would have been hilarious though...

I think #8 matches him better for some reason. He should of changed it to 81.

in related news, i am changing my jean size from 33/34 to 34/34; if that does not make the headlines, i don't know what will.
