It's in honor of Fred Roberts, who wore it back in 96.
He's gonna tell his reasons today, supposedly. Twenty-fo was the first number he wore in HS. Plus, LAL have had 2 unis since 67, they aren't going to be changing them any time soon. Could be to see how well his new jersey sells, considering that you can only buy so many 8s.
Predictable is one thing he's not I guess.

I didn't mean he was changing to 23. I meant he's going one number higher than Jordan. It's just interesting that he would choose that number. Has there been any public explanation yet?? Maybe sending a little message?? One upping Jordan? That's my conspiracy theory. It may not be true, but it's fun to talk about.

Bryant arrived at the No. 8 for two reasons. It was the number he wore when he was a kid playing in Italy. It also tied into the number he wore at Adidas' ABCD Camp, 143. The numbers add up to 8.

In the entire universe of all things relating to basketball, I place this at the VERY bottom of the list in order of relative importance. I'm surprised he didnt just announce he's going to have a jersey without a number since everyone knows who he is anyway.

I think #8 matches him better for some reason. He should of changed it to 81.
