KJ flying to Vegas to meet with George Maloof

KJ probably went to tell them that we're going ahead with the arena without them, and to ask them if they're willing to commit as a tenant with a signed lease. Seriously, I doubt he went there to suck up. He probably has some kind of proposal he wants to run by the Maloofs.

^^ Would be awesome if we could do that, then offer them the same terms as Anaheim offered them as TENANTS.

It's been reported that doing so could void the bond loan. So i doubt it unless there sure they can win a court battle.

Sorry...

Saw the game on TV where KJ was talking to Joe and Gavin courtside. All sporting big smiles. ‘Course they just might have been through gritted teeth.

I have every faith in Kevin Johnson. If he's in Vegas and talking to George Maloof, it's because he (KJ) believes there is a possibility of salvaging this deal and putting the project back on track. As far as George Maloof "graciously" agreeing to meet with him, I doubt if George knows the meaning of the word.

I have all the faith in the world in KJ. He's been an outstanding leader for Sacramento and the best mayor since Joe Serna. Incredible leadership. I'll attend as many city council meetings as it takes even if I have to go there alone.

Bad move by KJ, if the Maloofs convince him to take a bad deal back to the city council or perhaps even a similar deal I doubt they would be open to it now.

I'm hoping/thinking that KJ didn't go to the Palms without the blessings of the city council first. I doubt he would negotiate anything without knowing whether or not it would pass with the council.

No "negotiating" went on. I think they changed the wording of the story, but a previous version at the Bee said something along the lines of "no points of the term sheet were negotiated" - it appears to be more of a "feeling out" meeting just confirming points of view about what happened and reiterating that we want the Kings to stay and that they want to stay here. Any additional negotiations will come later.

Nothing definitive resulted from the Las Vegas session, but the hourlong sit-down was an indication that the sides might be interested in reviving talks over the construction of a sports arena at the downtown railyard.
