Week 2 Rules

Remember, in week 2 you may vote for 2 movies with no restrictions (except you cannot vote for your own) -- these can either be movies you have not seen or repeat viewings, your choice. And you also have the option to vote for 2 more movies as long as you have not previously voted for them in the first round. So 2 (any) + 2 (new) = potentially 4 total.

Note: just as in the box office, sales numbers from week 1 carry over (this also being practically necessary with the 2+2 voting scheme since people cannot vote for all the same movies every round and the favorite movies might therefore tend to run out of votes).

POLL CLOSES TUESDAY, AUG 25th, 12noon PT

Results After Week 1

Blood Valley = 12
-- bloodied the competition in week 1
Ender's Game = 12
-- Ender's is just getting started
Bad Meets Evil = 10
-- Evil proved irresistible in week 1
Growing Up Cannibal = 10
-- ate up the competition in the first week
Nothing Doesn't Matter = 9
-- advancing to the second week does matter
Space Nuts 10 -1 (venom_7)= 9
-- Britney's best vocal performance since...well, ever
Hell Cats = 8
-- good showing for a B movie, but needs to claw its way up the charts to make it another round
The Chance(s) of a Lifetime = 7
-- making it to week 2 gives this romcom a chance to move on
The Thin Man = 6
-- narrowly slipped into Wk 2
Vert Tout Vert 4 + 1 (ryanandty)= 5
-- would have opened stronger in Quebec
Murder By The Numbers = 5 (pulled by distributor)
-- the numbers say Murder was right on the fringe of making Wk 2
Weave 6 -1 (venom_7)= 5 (unable to continue: producer abducted by aliens)
-- tried to bob and weave its way into Wk 2
Obsidian Sun 6 -1 (venom_7)= 5 -1 (Loungelizard)= 4 (pulled from theaters after Wk 1)
-- gringo cast and japanese director still proved too authentic for action junkies and historiphobes
Pin Ball Wizard = 4 (pulled from theaters after Wk 1)
-- the thrilling world of bowling did not prove sufficient attraction in the theaters
A Change is Coming 5 -1 (venom_7)= 4 (pulled from theaters after Wk 1)
-- unfortunately its coming too late to save this historical epic
The Movie With No Name = 3 (pulled from theaters after Wk 1)
-- interesting premise, but lack of a name made it hard to buy a ticket

Leaving a three way tie for 10th-12th between, Murder By The Numbers, Weave, and Vert Tout Vert.
Note: Vert Tout Vert Advanced by Default

Ok...well, of the three movies competing for the 10th spot in Wk 2, one got mysteriously pulled by its distributor, and a 2nd's producer mysteriously dropped off the grid and has not responded to attempts to contact him. So...in the interests of moving the Kingfans Blockbuster season along, I am going to reluctantly declare a winner by default:

Vert Tout Vert

Very sorry about that -- I tried. But after 24 hours only 1 person had responded. Another had dropped out. And the 3rd...well here you are, but I had no idea when you would be back and holding up the entire polling through the weekend waiting didn't seem right.

I'm confused on the rules: what if I didn't vote in the first round?

Simple....You vote for 2 movies you have not voted for before...easy since you have not voted before. Then you have 2 more votes to vote for EITHER movies you have voted for before OR movies you have not voted for before. In your case, obviously, that means 2 more votes for movies you have not voted for before. You get to go see 4 movies on the list. :D

Yeah... but what if one of the four movies I wanted to vote for is mine, which appears to be forbidden? How many people voted for themselves in the first round?

Hopefully, no one. That has been a rule from the beginning. I would imagine people are monitoring that.

Pick 4 movies that are not your own. Otherwise, I suppose since you have not picked before and are already adhereing to the rule that you have to pick at least 2 new movies (those you haven't picked before), then you would be safe at picking only 3 movies.

I'm sick of putting a bunch of effort into original ideas and then not see them get rewarded at all. Kinda pissed actually. Elaborate write-ups for every draft I've been in, yet people dn't seem to read them and they just vote on face value. I mean, the most popular choice in this draft so far isn't even an original story. Happy TDOS everone, I'll come back in a month when fantasy team sign-ups are due.

This was a particualr challenge here. I can SEE my comedy, know half the lines, most of the scenes, KNOW its hilarious. But in the end, how can you possibly express that here?

For better or worse the idea using something established is easier to grab hold of.

While your time and effort are appreciated, since this is about movies we would want to see, you are going up against people's personal preferences. That can be a hard shell to crack. I don't go to many movies, so I am pretty picky about what I would enjoy seeing in the theater.

p.s. I read every word that each person wrote, and appreciated it.

And we are closed.

An hour and a half late, but but close enough.

And of course we once again appear to have a 3-way tie for the final spot for the next round (Top 6 go). I'll contact everybody after I confirm there were no voting errors.

You're mad at everyone for not voting your movie through? I think you're taking this a little too seriously. This is supposed to be an offseason divergence, something to help the board pass the time. It's supposed to be fun. If you want to pour a ton of effort into each draft that you participate in, you should do so for your own benefit, not for the benefit of anyone else. This is the first TDOS draft I've participated in, either as a drafter or a voter. I did a ton of work on my project, a full write-up, started a script, etc. The only thing I shared with anyone is the brief trailer. Everything else was for me. And damn whoever doesn't like it, because I like it, and that's why I did it.

I look at some of these projects that I wouldn't find amusing/entertaining in the least, but still appreciate the effort everyone put in to make the original idea fun and exciting for anyone involved. I was truly blown away by the work some of the participants put into their projects. This was probably the most involved of all the drafts I've seen. And everyone did a great job. But ain't none of us getting a movie produced because of this. It's all just in the name of fun.

Does that mean my movie is the only one not in the running for advancement??

But... all the hot chicks...

I am officially declaring myself too cool for everyone to comprehend. That's the only reason I can think that someone as awesome as me would be shut out of every single draft. :p

Someday Tim Rice will return my calls. How could you not like a song called "First Uranus, Then the Universe?" It's genius I tell you, genius!
