We will know sooner than that. If it's a sign and trade it has to be agreed before he signs. If lopez is part of it then it will be known on Friday.

Apparently the sources close to Tyreke are listening to different sides of Tyreke's brain. One side is happy and the other side is unhappy. Not that I believe in such nonsense but the disparity of the "close sources" is amazing.
And CD, as much as I appreciate everything you have done (we might be watching them pack and go to Seattle), you have to understand that your "close sources" are saying the opposite of other "close sources." I have Tyreke over for a beer and he thinks everything is cool in Sacto. Wanna talk to him?

Vivek and PDA and Tyreke are playing poker. The first one to flinch losses.
There is no advantage to the Kings to come right in and match the offer from NO. If they do, then NO has time to up the deal even more. If the Kings stand pat and look disinterested, Tyreke will agree to NO deal and all the Kings need to do is Match within 3 days.
If they send out all these signals that they will match, NO will up the offer.
Vivek and PDA have expressed their desire to bring Tyreke back in their meeting on Monday. I doubt $8 million over their perceived price 4yrs/36mil for Tyreke will stop them from bringing him back, considering they paid $534 million for the team.
I'm pretty confident that the Kings won't let Tyreke walk for nothing. Either they match at 4/44 or do a sign and trade for Grevias and Lopez
He CAN sign the offer sheet, which is a promise to sign a contract if his current team doesn't match the offer. It precludes him from further negotiations with other teams.

No. He can not sign anything until the 10th. He can only give his verbal agreement that he will sign on the 10th.

I'm pretty sure Section 101 is correct on this and that Tyreke can't actually sign anything until the 10th. But open to correction if someone has a link.

I wouldn't be.
That's a tactic to drive up offers from suitors. If you think he wants to leave, it takes less to get him. If you think he likes Sac, more likely to get a higher offer to pry him away.
I repeat: You cannot believe ANYTHING you hear this time of year.
One thing I would be sure of... Tyreke's brothers are feeling their mojo about now!

He can agree to sign an offer sheet as he can't sign anything until July 10. Pretty sure about that. He then signs the offer sheet on July 10 and we have 3 days to match it. Your way of looking at it means we have three days to match it starting today and that's not possible.
I stand corrected.
Is his verbal agreement enough to keep him from talking to other teams?

Usually but a player could break a verbal promise. Just happens very infrequently due to what happens to the team left behind.

Yes. Pretty sure. They take verbal agreements seriously or the system would fall apart. Agents and teams need to be honorable to negotiate.

Pretty sure it's not. He's free to talk to as many teams as he wants until the 10th, regardless of a verbal committment (which is non-binding). Though if he gives a verbal agreement, he may not want to bother speaking to anyone else.

If that's the case, the only benefit for Tyreke would be that it "secures" the deal for him so that NO doesn't pull the offer sheet?

I'd imagine they could still pull the offer in theory, even with the verbal agreement. But what would be the point in Reke speaking to other teams or NO pulling the offer if they both commit to it? That's why stuff like that doesn't happen often.

Nope. He could still talk to teams. But it would make his agent look bad and teams may not be willing to deal with him in the future. NO could screw up and not have the cap space available too.

Sidebar on Andre situation: I liked our response. I don't think PDA appreciated being used that way against his pals in Denver. Also, we wouldn't have wanted to sign a guy resorting to those tactics, it seems. Vivek and the high character thing.

Absolutely. It has to do with being honorable and all that. That idea about NO is interesting as they don't have the room now, do they? I suppose they can make room if they get a verbal commitment.

I think the last time I was so anxious about a free agency signing was back in 2001. I can actually remember exactly where I was and who I was with when CWebb made the formal announcement that he would, in fact, be resigning with the Kings. I think the major coaching weakness of Smart and his predecessors was the incredible weakness of the owners. You can't have a strong coach with a weak ownership group. The coach inevitably becomes a politician in that environment. That's the main difference going forward. I highly doubt Malone's authority is going to be subverted by any player on the Kings' team with Vivek in his corner.

Yep they have to either trade Lopez, waive Lopez Friday or have a sign and trade per-arranged that fits under the cap.
Also this is all dependent on the salary cap being the same or going up. It would cause a stir if it goes down a few mil.
