[Game] Kings vs Raptors Game Thread

Well. Skal stood out a bit. But to stand out in this game all you really needed to do was have a pulse. So that's not exactly high praise.

Easily the most interesting player out there for us. Not only the best, but when they even started using him bringing the ball up...SF possibilities, or yet another "revolutionary" PF type stuff begins dancing in your head. Of course when everybody is revolutionary, nobody is. But he was our interesting talent there.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing Willie, but he just hasn't looked good today. His rebounding has been really poor...he hasn't really boxed out much. Floating too much. Hopefully Coach can point these things out to him in the next game. Not a 1 day fix though.

It was the same last season but everybody just wanted to blame Karl.

Seriously not a single highlight for Sac. What an embarrassing.

I know it's only one game but Gudaitis looks f'ing terrible. Also, Dukan still sucks. Anyone know if we gave him contract extention yet? lol I still don't know why we gave this scrub a contract last year. Vlade must've lost some money to his dad in a poker game or something.

It was an ugly game but, using baseball analogy, our AZL team minus two draftees played their AAA team, so it was kind of expected ... guys were not ready, never played against this level.

Maybe because Karl spent a year watchingit and did exacfly jack ****ing poopoo to work on it?

Well yes, but point being that Willie not being a good rebounder and him not boxing out is not solely because Karl had him switching onto the perimeter but also to do with his own fundamentals.

Interesting. If he can handle the ball and hit 3's, gets elevation on his jumpers, then he may be best suited as a 3. All depends on if he can guard the position of course. How did his defense look?

Gudaitis answered all the questions about him in one game IMO. He looked like he didn't belong anywhere near a basketball court.

Well Gudaitis' did block a shot, get a few boards, and set some screens. Which is not saying too much but at least as good (or as bad?) as some other bigs like Woodbury or Uthoff.

DMC needs to teach WCS how to finish around the rim.

I hope I-Cousins is a steal at the end of the draft like IT was, because all of our guards were bad. WCS led the team in assists at 3. I was expecting some more out of Ledo, the guy has a couple years of post-college experience already.

The stats online claims that Mitrovic played 5 minutes and got zeros, but I don't remember seeing him in?

Malachi showed some promise, some shot selection was questionable but when nobody can score or even really get open I can see why he would just go for it. Skal looks pretty intriguing too, gotta keep in better control.

Hope Papagiannis and Cousins suit up for the next game!

2-10 from the field. He hit the nice jumper to start the game but everything else was ugly. 3-9 FT self explanatory, didn't look great on defense. He's a starting PF on a team with playoff hopes and he struggled in a SL game. It's a bummer

One thing of note as well imo, the refs were calling us for a lot of weak fouls. Never could get any sort of flow for the ENTIRE game.

Just saw on twitter that coach was talking about playing Skal at the PG for next game. Didn't watch the game, but was our guards really that bad? LOL

Gudaitis was supposed to be much much better ... may be he was nervous to play his first (kinda) NBA game ... unlike most of our American guys he actually played against pros, granted he never played in top Euro leagues but still ... he was lost IMO.

This is true. Toronto's starting five are all from their regular season roster. The only player on the Kings SL team with any real NBA minutes is WCS. In addition this was one of those games where the ball went in for the other team and not for the Kings. Also it bounced funny all night, seemed to go right to a Raptor. Some of it was hustle but mostly just one of those nights.

That said the Kings PG problems extend to the SL squad as well as the NBA team. I. Cousins missing the game was a blow. WCS is thinking too much. Skal had a couple of nice plays. Gudaitis was active on defense and added some muscle in the paint on Poeltl. Malachi has some attitude and heart.

Hey next game they might score 50:cool:

He actually didn't look bad defending inside at all. A little soft on the interior boards but then, he isn't built for it, and he hustled for the long ones. But he was pretty active as a shotblocker. Some issues with strength perhaps man to man.

Perimeter defense...was ok. At least looked like he knew what he was supposed to do. Had to make some hopeless closeouts a few times that guys hit over him.

And look at this, believe it or not the hardworking Kings video types think they found 2:20 of Kings highlight during that game. I frankly don't believe them and suspect they just looped like 2 or 3 highlights for the duration, but here's the link anyway:

Here's the overall highlights package, likely to include few Kings:

And here was the real highlight, as it were, for us:

Skal looked pretty active on both ends. Showed small glimpses of potential. Pick and pop game with ability to put it on the floor at his size is intriguing. Saw a couple of times where he tried to put it on the floor straight away and lost control or got stripped. All he has to do is establish that midrange shot then on the catch size up, sell the jumper and then put it on the floor, similar to guys like Aldridge or Pau Gasol.

Malachi showed the jumper as well as a quick first step off the dribble, just needs to learn to be a better decision maker when he gets the step. Couldn't really gauge him on the defensive end tbh. He hit two spot up threes, which is good. Forced a couple of bad shots which was something in his draft scouting report.

WCS look like he was trying to do too much. They tried to use him as a facilitator and a guy that creates his own offense but its just not there yet. The rebounding fundamentals have been touched upon since we drafted him so I hope this new coaching staff works on that with him. Still we have a full year of production and we know he is a good player, bad game where getting absolutely nothing from the guards really hurt him in particular.

Kinda sad when winning the tip is one of our few highlights
