Might as well stop dreaming about the top 5 at this point.

This franchise is dumber than a box of rocks. Only thing we can do at this point is watch the train wreck and point and laugh.
Reality check: The Kings still have the fourth worst record in the NBA. They have only 3 more wins than the Pacers, sitting at the bottom. Their next two games are vs. the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers. After a game against Brooklyn, they play Charlotte, Orlando, and Atlanta right in a row.

Check back in to see how they are doing at the end of March.

Hayes led the team in minutes. Nique fouled out super early in the fourth. Dylan is clearly trying to get his legs back under him and Max was missing everything late in the game on the second night of a back to back. Aside from actively passing the other team the ball, which will never happen for obvious reasons, I’m not sure what the Kings could’ve done to ensure a loss at the end of the game tonight.
This feels a little disingenuous.

Lets ignore the part where the Kings should be signing 10 day contracts right now with the team on IR. Its really as simple as derozan not taking 40 possessions. Tell KIllian its on him, or Maxime has to make it happen.

You know, the team really develops at their best when back to back nights, the young guys don't touch the ball and we just set a top of the key iso for Demar. Such a learning experience.

The goal post seems to keep getting moved for the its okay we are winning crowd.

Yeah if Max drops 28, Nique has 9 assists, Hayes goes for 20. You live with it, because maybe those guys continue to develop and they can be future pieces. And I do think it matters that there's SOMETHING here along with the new 2026 rookie

DeRozan showing he can still score does nothing for this franchise in any capacity.

I've said this all season and every game its met with something else.
Look we are still in last place it doesn't matter
well we are 1 game ahead of the Pacers but you act like we won't go lose 6 in a row right now.
Now it's we only have 7-9 players dressed, what else can we do?

The game last night, Jazz played Garcia, Elijah Harkless, Blake Hinson, Bez Mbeng, Oscar Tshibwe WHO???
Pacers and Bulls did the same.

Meanwhile during this 4/5 wins, Russ/Demar are getting 35+ mpg. I said it at the deadline, why in the world did we hang onto Eubanks, McDerrmott, and Russ. Those 3 spots at a minimum should have been reserved for 20 year olds who nobody has ever heard of.
1. Maybe you actually develop a kid who can take a 2-way spot next year.
2. You don't get these trash unnecessary wins

I just wonder what they will say when we miss out on a top 5 pick, and all of these guys develop into stars.
It's not even that we are the worst team in the league, we are at least 2 years behind the other bad teams in terms of young guys with potential.
I see another 2011-2016 stretch ahead. 7, 5, 7, 8, 6, 8. Always terrible, never enough to get a top 5 pick.

How many more wins would just totally sink the kings in the lottery? 4? 5?
Depends on if you’re a glass half full or half empty kind of guy. Tracking the wins is arguably less important than tracking the losses and at the moment the Kings have the second most losses. It is of course, entirely possible that the East Coast nose dive teams will honestly not win another game the rest of the season in which case. The Kings have already sunk their ship in terms of a top three pick. But I definitely call it too early to tell.

As I understand it, the three worst teams each have an equal chance of getting the number one pick (14%), followed by the 4th worst team (12.5%). Our goal at this point should be pushing the Nets out of that third spot and getting our extra 1.5% advantage back.

Yeah Doug is all over the place this season.

We finally looked like we turned the keys to the kids in mid Feb. Russ and ddr were playing mid 20s and the clear onus was on the young guys getting playing time

The last 2 weeks is just a repeat of the beginning of the year. Young guys get pushed aside for russ and ddr to do what they want.

This was so obvious during that massive losing streak. Things were great. There were games when Russ/Demar played UNDER 20 mins!

Then you saw Vivek pouting on the sideline. Mad as ever. The stadium was empty, kings were heading towards 20 losses in a row. Now we've won 6 of our last 11. We were so clearly heading towards a top 5 pick guaranteed, but vivek couldn't stay the course 1 damn season!

Forget Washington and Indiana, those teams are clearly not going to win enough, they are locked in 1/2.. Now we have to hope not only do we not win enough to pass up Utah, but that the Nets win more than us.

Winnable games left -
Kings - Nets, Nets, Warriors, Warriors, Clippers, Pelicans, 76ers. - I still have us penciled in for probably 4 more wins. 22-60.

Nets - Kings, Kings, Warriors, Wizards, Pacers, Bucks, Bucks. - This is likely 3 wins if I had to put a number on it.

Now go look at the jazz remaining schedule. I'd say they have 1 win left and will finish with 21 wins. I'd say its a good bet we end up 5th.

You think the happiness of future bench players should be of higher value then setting yourself up to get good talent in the draft?
They could develop into good starters and not be just bench players. Max especially at this point.

We could end up in 5th, bounce to 1st in the lottery, draft Peterson, and have him get a season ending injury the first game. Great, we got the talent and it still didn't do us any good, just like Oden!

Yes, we want the highest draft pick possible. That's a given. But you also can't go 0-82 and destroy any player development and desire to be here along the way.

Should the older vets be limited to 20-25 minutes a game? Yes, in my opinion. Just enough to not get us punished by the league (if they are still paying attention, hard to tell).

But Doug is also likely coaching for his future career here. My opinion doesn't mean jack to him since he wants to stay employed and possibly get another job after this one. I don't blame him one bit. The players also won't tank. They want to win as well. Their career wins, trade potential, etc., aren't going to be thrown to the wind to hopefully get us a #5 pick instead of a #7.

Let's not get all stressed out about things we (fans) can't control anyways.

No, not 0 wins,.....but you could end up with say 17-19 wins, instead of 20-22, if managed intelligently with a GM and head coach on the same page. Keeping in mind that Ranadive had his chosen head coach in place, before the new GM arrived, again.

Again, that's on the GM/owner, not the coach. The coach and players play to win. I wouldn't want a coach or players that didn't play to win EVERY game. The GM has to handle personnel issues.

A directive to limit certain player's minutes to expressly develop youth when the season is lost already needs to come directly from the GM and ownership to the coach. Apparently, we don't have that. Don't blame the coach. He's trying to save his job.

Yes, it is on the GM and owner. That is the problem

I don't blame Christie. Weak, stupid and pathetic GMs and owners hire weak, stupid, and pathetic coaches. So Christie plays DDR 20 minutes a game and strives for player development for a stretch of games, then does the old switcheroony and starts playing him bigtime minutes against teams that would have a hard time wining against G league competition. To save his job? Because Christie is showing his incredible coaching acumen by playing his aging HOFer big minutes against make-believe teams going for the ping pong balls? Makes total sense if you know you're dealing with an idiot. Why should I have higher expectations? No blame here.
