It could be that. It could also be that they are a) unwilling to promise Christie that he'll get to keep his job if he "plays ball," and b) too cheap to replace him mid-season.

If the front office has said, hey develop. And he's doing this? Then he should have been fired already. Vivek has never been afraid so swallow coaching $$$ before. If Vivek won't allow that because Christie is still in his back pocket? Then this is FUBAR in the usual ways so just cross fingers at that point. This is going to be a bumpy ride. Again, lol.

Look, wins are fine if they're done "correctly"

Meaning the ball is in Hayes/Nique/Max/Dylan's hands.
Hayes led the team in minutes. Nique fouled out super early in the fourth. Dylan is clearly trying to get his legs back under him and Max was missing everything late in the game on the second night of a back to back. Aside from actively passing the other team the ball, which will never happen for obvious reasons, I’m not sure what the Kings could’ve done to ensure a loss at the end of the game tonight.

I think Demar has 10 million guaranteed out of 25 million next season so he'll likely be back unless we trade or buy him out

The issue right now is that the Hunter trade ADDED money to this "rebuilding" teams books next season. They're currently a first apron team and the only clear way to get under it would be to waive DeMar unless they can move one of their bigger contracts.

Contrary to popular opinion, at the end of the day, it's about the name on the back. Doug Christie has got to do whatever he thinks is best for Doug Christie, whether that aligns with what the Sacramento Kings want or not. If that means that he tries to win games the organization would rather he lose, well... short of a guarantee from the organization, why shouldn't he?

I dunno why people are shocked. Utah and Indiana are tanking with malicious intent, and have been doing so since October.
There seems to be some miscommunication about which part people are "shocked" about. I have, and continue to be, very vocally anti-tank.

BUT...

... If you're going to have a season like the Kings are having, don't ****ing half-ass it.

It's like the NBA will fine teams for blatant tanking and then there's us who were worse than them record wise when they did that and they pat us on the head. If there's karma we'll land a top 3 pick no matter where we finish this year.

It's not just about the win, it's almost every single possession being a DeMar set up. Either as a passer or in iso. The Kings headbutting mountains expecting them to move since 1985, lol.

Did taking the ball out of DeMar DeRozan's hands occur to anybody?

He should, but he shouldn't be allowed to. Any competent organization would say, "Bad boy, sit in the corner". Done and done.

I don't think the Hunter trade was all that bad, but when Perry went with that one the writing was on the wall. They're trying to compete next season. This isn't a rebuild. Perry couldn't fetch anything for his vets so he's going to ride it out just watch. I get the uneasy feeling that we're more likely to see more picks and youth moved for win now pieces than the reverse. Right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Kings not even be making a first round selection on draft night and if they do, it will be for another team.
Oh I think they draft because they want to show off the shiny new object to season ticket holders after this trash season. But I do expect Russ back and we already saw there isn't a market for Domas, Monk, or Lavine.

Next year is

Russ - LaVine - Keegan - Hunter - Sabonis
Monk - Plowden - Nique - Cardwell - Maxime + New Rookie

Cardwell will get DNPs and become the new Keon, until hes ultimately traded to get off some other nonsense contract. Rinse and Repeat.

At what point is 1 or 2 too many, no longer "fine"?

You live with it, if they're being piloted by the young guys.

I get DDR still has to play, but he can and should be in a very muted role around 20-25 MPG. The issue is we're letting DDR beat the crap out of fringe NBA guys while everyone else stands around and watches. Again, this is on Doug for not getting DDR under control and telling him to get with the program. He's letting the "legend" run wild.

How about a game plan that doesn't revolve around a 35%+ USG DDR? How about give Max an opportunity to create off his own bounce in a game situation? Give Hayes a chance to find some confidence with his scoring?

We learned nothing from this game. Outside of DDR is still pretty good as a scorer. Stupidity at its finest.

And I haven't been on the "We should intentionally throw games to lose" train that some around here and on twitter currently are. But if we win games, there should be real developmental benefits from it. Not this crap.

I think the franchise is leaning into it, oldest player in Sac Kings history to score over 40!

We're gonna be right in the Acuff/Philon/Brown PG range. Already see Russ starting, playing 31, while our rookie has an inconsistent 15 MPG role and is not playing everyday.

The shiny new objects the Kings go for are usually from the used car lot so we'll see, haha.

When you factor in the free throws DeMar basically had a 30+ FG's night. This is bonafide lunacy. Yeah, maybe put Plowden in those DeMar sets and see if he can be something more than a spot shooter. So many KANGZ things about this season. Cycle, repeat and then wonder why it never amounts to anything substantial.

Is Hayes in front of Carter yet, in the pecking order?

Like I said last year and at the deadline nobody is trading for that dude
And people still don't realize that THIS is part of the exact reason the Kings have been floating out to sea for 20 plus seasons. They never have any sort of plan other than hitting for the middle at best. No patience. No young player is learning from watching DeMar DeRozan stomp all over fringe NBA'ers.

I bashed the Westbrook pick up and people in here were telling me Carter could get better by not playing in games but in the summer

If we weren’t smart enough to tank in a generational draft with so many injuries there’s no way we’re tanking next year in a weak draft after nobody takes Sabonis, Westbrook, and LaVine off our hands. We’ll be picking outside the top five in back to back years

A full one third of the Kings wins for the season have come in their last 11 games.

They’ve gone 6-5.

5 of 6 wins have come against current Top 9 lottery teams.

Not for nothing but both of these teams have gotten fined/talked to by the league office for tanking this season while the Kings have not
