The Kings are 24-31 and have 27 games remaining. The next 8 look like this:
Spurs at home
Clippers at home
Thunder at home
Grizzlies in Memphis
Mavericks in Dallas
Spurs in San Antonio
Pelicans in New Orleans
Cavaliers at home
The last 19 games consist of 10 home games and 9 road games and aren't as daunting but also aren't loaded with tomato cans - really just the Lakers once in L.A. and the imploding (blackhole?) Suns once at home and once on the road. Point being, the Kings can't really have a poor showing during this murderers row of games and hope to make it up down the stretch.
If the Kings are really to make the playoffs I think they actually need to at least go 4-4 in these next games.
So while I'd love to be able to say that it's okay if they lose to the Spurs tonight, it really isn't. Not if the postseason is still a goal. I think we can chalk up the game in the Alamo as a loss but I think the Kings need to win 2 out of 3 of those first home games, beat either the Grizzlies or the Mavs on the road and then beat either the Pelicans on the road or the Cavs at home.
Either way, after that March 9th Cavs game we'll know if the Kings are still capable of making a push or if we need to do the normal routine of looking at mock drafts and hoping for lottery luck.
