[Game] Kings v. Pelicans - 3/16/16 - 7 PT, 10 ET

Sadly due to just how bad Karl has been the players will get another pass from some fans. Here's an idea, suck it up and earn your paycheck. You are playing for the Sacramento Kings, not the Sacramento Karl's.

Sums up my feelings.
You know I think I may be wrong in faulting the players because heading into the season we knew the likes of Rondo/Cousins/Gay had serious issues recently or in there entire career of being able to help a team win due to a combantion of low motor's/poor IQ or both. I think we put them in a impossible situation in expecting them to lead when evidence in the last 3 years has suggested the complete opposite. The management is 100% at fault here we have seen this exact scenario play out before with the "core big 3" and yet we invested our future in them for a 8th seed. If you know before a season someone has and will quit when the going get's tough you can't be mad when they do.

Of those 3 I think Jamal Murray has the best chance to excel in the NBA, but I'm not thrilled with any of them. I think they're all going to struggle initially to adjust to the NBA game. At the SG position, 3 different names come to mind for me...

Jaylen Brown at Cal is at the top of my list if we move up and I think he can play SG at least for his first couple years in the league. He just explodes to the basket. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard had similar profiles coming out of college -- they were considered raw players with inconsistent jumpers and underdeveloped handles who nevertheless impressed with their physicality and athletic ability. You're looking at a dominant two way player here if he puts the whole package together.

Next I actually like Dejounte Murray more than the three guys you mentioned. He's not getting nearly the same exposure because Washington is a West Coast team who didn't make the tournament this year but he's got size/skill attributes that jump off the screen to me. Dejounte Murray is so fast and in-control with the ball he's going to be able to get anywhere he wants to on the court even in the NBA. The jumpshot needs refinement, but he's also using his long arms to come up with steals at an impressive rate so already he's got skills that will keep him on the floor while he works on the jumper. He's having a really impressive Freshman season and just put up a 30, 9, and 5 game yesterday in the first round of the NIT tournament and people aren't even talking about him in the lottery yet. I think he might be the most underrated player in the country right now. Watch some tape of this kid.

And then there's Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot who nobody really knows much about because he plays overseas but he's got ideal size for an NBA SG at 6'7" and flashes a lot of (inconsistent) potential on both sides of the ball. Offensively he can do a lot of things pretty well -- drive to the basket, catch and shoot from outside, make the right pass. Long strides and good touch around the basket account for most of his scoring right now. He reminds me of Dante Exum a little in the way he glides up and down the court looking like he's not expending any energy at all. He's not particularly crafty with the ball but he won't be playing PG like Exum. Defensively he's a mixed bag -- getting lazy at times or losing track of the ball -- but you can see flashes where he's focused and his long arms and solid lateral quickness give him stopper potential. How many times did I just say potential? He's a boom or bust guy but his physical attributes are off the charts which is why you see him projected anywhere from top 10 to mid 20s. With the right coaching he could be another Jimmy Butler and that puts him on the short list for me.

It can be hard to find full games for the international prospects, so here's one to get you started and you can link to some more from there. Timothe is #23 in the pink jersey. You have to be a little bit hardcore to watch these low-res static sideline-cam games with no commentary, but no one said scouting prospects was glamorous. :)
Very interesting!

I actually really like Murray, but he lacks so much that I can't even imagine the Kings taking him in the lotto. He's all raw potential and would be a perfect project for a lot of teams. However, the Kings haven't been able to prove that they're able to develop talent. Any coincidence that our best draftee since Cousins is a refined 22yearold rookie NBA career role player?

I can see why a lot of people aren't talking about him though. I think he's unlikely to declare this year because his game has a lot left of growing to do. If I were to critique one thing, it would be the fact that he's not particularity good at any one thing in terms of scoring. Doesn't have a good mid range J. Doesn't have good finishing ability. Doesn't have long range 3pt ability. Doesn't draw contact as much as he should.

He reminds me a lot of Malik Pope.. tons of potential, but he has to put it all together.

Speaking of raw...thoughts on Shake Milton? I've only watched a little bit of SMU...admittedly, having little to no interest in them this year.. but Milton stood out in a few games I did catch.

Now I'm not sure which Murray you're referring to... :(

I'm not familiar with Shake Milton yet, maybe someone else can chime in on that one. I'd been ignoring the draft this year and focusing a lot more on watching Kings games instead because I didn't think we would have a draft pick. Now that it's looking like we probably will be in the lottery again I'm trying to play catch-up. I know the Pac 12 because I follow USC basketball and I've watched the usual top schools a few games here or there. Fortunately Providence got matched up with USC in the opening round tomorrow so I'll be watching Kris Dunn closely in that one.

And we thought last season was an emotional rollercoaster!

Tbh do we even need a coach for the rest of the season? it's not like these guys will play hard and execute anyway. Might as well fire the coaching staff or whatever and tell the players to go coach themselves for the rest of the season. Half the rotation is already having injury bugs anyway.

Didn't that guy go on to be a star, and a champion, and his idiot coach get fired in shame?

“I remember the very first time he kicked me off the field. Tears were shed. I told him, ‘I want to be traded Coach.’ He said, ‘OK. I’ll find another team for you.’ That moment, it started to click for me. It made me a better man, a better teammate and a better leader for my team. It helped me become the player I am today,” Davis said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I never really had an opportunity to tell him how much it meant to me. By the time I looked up, he was gone. That fast. I am very grateful.”

All I know is if I'm a d-leaguer and get offered a 10 day contracts, I wait until I play the kings to start off with a bang.

I applaud those who continue to watch every game this year. I for one, however, will not plan my night around a game nor waste my time to be disappointed. It's at the point where the Kings need to earn my fan ship back. I'm sick of drama and losing.

One of the best talents in the league. The best players in the league win no matter the circumstance. (Curry, Lebron, Durant, Westbrook, Khawai, Paul) those guys win, they have the intangibles that Cousins severely lacks.

The best players in the league win no matter what? Seriously? So if you dropped any of the players you named into the Kings in place of DMC they would have won because they have those "intangibles" that Cousins severely lacks?

I don't think so.

That's not particularly close to true. The only one of those guys whom you can legitimately make a case that he's won "no matter the circumstance" is LeBron James. Maybe Chris Paul... maybe. Those other guys have only won in one circumstance. Especially Kawhi Leonard: dude was traded on draft day to a team that was coming off its twelfth consecutive 50-win season.

Lebron would probably be the only guy out of that list that would make this team an instant playoff team. People take for granted sometimes on gow truly great he is. Still the best player in the world IMO. No one can make up for a team's shortcomings quite like he can.

And we know what would happen if Lebron wasn't happy with the coach.

Yes, if you swap Cousins with any of those guys mentioned we are instantly a playoff team and to not believe that would be stupid. Each and every one of those guys can lead and every player on our roster would play better. Those guys inspire their teammates, whether it be vocally(Lebron, Westbrook, Paul) or how they handle their business and come to play every single night (Durant, Leonard, Curry). Actually aside from Kahwai all of these guys qualify a good leaders vocally and leading by example. I mean to say Curry wouldn't make this team a playoff team is blasphemy. Those guys bring the best out of their teammates, and Cousins has his teammates walking on eggshells hoping he doesn't implode at any given moment.

Instantly a playoff team? And you think anyone who doesn't believe that is stupid? There's no point in any further discussion, at least on my part.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

There's plenty of examples where guys are not even stars and lead there team to the playoffs Andre Igoudula/Andre Miller lead a team to 41 wins as the two best players. Look at Lillard (is a star) this year even Gordan Hayward despite the Jazz missing half it's roster for a good chunk of the season has led a team to near 500.

There is something missing when it comes to Cuz I can't put my finger on it but something is off. I heard for years on here how if the Kings were in the East Cousins would take us to the playoffs but we sort of are now and same old same old.

Denial is people constantly trying to put Cousins in the same convo as the elite players. As a pure talent, yes he is a top 10 talent. The intangibles gap is enormous though. Professionalism, Leadership, Mental strength, ability to overcome adversity, ability to inspire. All those things turn those guys from great talents to great players. Great players win. Name me one all time great player who has a worse winning percentage than Cousins, couldnt even win 30 games etc?

All-time greats are judged by their entire careers. I'll get back to you once DMC has retired, and if necessary I'll admit you were right. Until then, however...

At this point, give me all the Seth Curry, WCS and Eric Moreland (who's healthy now). Would be a welcome change watching guys go out there and fight for their jobs and not take their position in the NBA for granted.

I'm stupid. Glad to meet you.

Only LeBron and Curry I think can lead a team regardless of talent to the playoffs. Those are two exceptional greats. The other players mentioned? Don't think so.

Durant/Paul/Westbrook/Kawhi/Paul George/Butler wouldn't be enough.

Why would any Kings player walk on eggshells? I mean what do we consider guys like Rondo, Gay or even Koufos are - teenage girls afraid of someone yelling at them?
You try so hard to put all the blame on Cousins, but at some point we just need to hold his teammates accountable for their poor play.
Cousins never won in this league. To believe a guy like Rondo would fold because of his big mans hot temper is very far fetched.

Our lack of success is a conglomerate of lack of franchise stability, lack of leadership by the FO and Ownership, lack of solid coaching, the fact our best player is a big man and we have no upper echelon guards or modern era wings and finally our players giving up.
Is Cousins responsible for all of that?
No.
He is one reason, why this team struggles, but I think the issues with Cousins have been very minor. This franchise has way bigger problems than justba hot tempered star.
But people like to blame the best player nonetheless.
