Armstrong splits the defense and gets inside for two.

79-72 Mavs

SAR misses; Mavs board.

Daniels, with Martin all over him, able to get two.

Garcia from the corner, miss. Run into but no whistle. On the other end, Mavs get the bucket and the +1.

84-72 after the bonus.

Martin pass to Garcia, outside the arc. Another errant shot. Both SAR and now Garcia took quick 3-shots ... and missed.

Mavs ball.

Turnover.

Kings ball.

Hart to SAR to Martin, back to SAR who goes inside and draws foul.

Non-shooting foul...

Kings ball.

Hart with long two at 23 seconds.

84-74 Mavs

Looks like the hurry-up bug has struck. First SAR, then Garcia now Martin.

Time out and commercial.

Hope Adelman OR Elston does a wee bit of yelling during the break.

Mavs ball, miss. Corliss with the board.

5:05 left.

Garcia to SAR, inside but passes outside to Hart, shot misses. Martin with the board. Reset - Garcia corner three misses. Corliss called for loose ball foul.

Mavs ball.

84-74 Mavs

Kings ball. Pass broken up by Mavs. Mavs ball.

86-74 Mavs

88-74 Mavs

88-77 Mavs

Jamal Sampson on the court for the first time. #31...

Mavs for two more.

90-77 Mavs

Ronnie Price also in.

2:15 left.

Price looks about 13 years old.

Harris at the line for the Mavs.

Makes both.

92-77 Mavs

It's all over but the details.

94-77 Mavs after foul shooting

Kings ball. Garcia tries another three. Does he think perchance the arc means he can't go inside of it? As I say that, he does move inside and get a board.

94-79 Mavs

Hmm. The scoreboard shows 94-80 but I don't know why.

Mavs ball. Foul - Mavs to the line.

hehehe. They just gave the first foul score to the Kings. And now they take it away and give two to the Mavs.

96-80 Mavs

Kings for three. No idea who. Trying to figure out how the Kings got that extra point.

96-83 according to the final score.

It's over.

Lots of work to be done, but lots to be hopeful about.

:D

Thanks VF. Pretty dissapointed on peja's efforts. I wish I coulda seen the game in person and give more opinions, but that's not an option for me right now.

Like you said, lots to work on and lots to be hopeful about.

I KNOW I saw #16 come onto the court, but I didn't really notice him once he got there. He was definiftely not a factor in the game one way or the other. More of an "invisible man." I have to believe part of that is because of his lack of summer productivity. I'm not worried at this point, simply because this is the first pre-season game after only one week of camp. I suspect and PRAY we'll see improvement in the next couple of games.

To all of you who said "thanks," you are entirely welcome! It gave me a reason to try and figure out who all those strangers were on the court!

:D

There's a difference between being the invisible man and putting up 20-25 point, 5-7 rebounds. Peja did not IMHO at any point look like he was really involved in the game. My first thought was that nothing had changed ... he's in playoff form.

Then I decided that was mean, which is why I qualified my comments above. Bottom line is I saw a LOT of effort from Kevin and SAR. I saw pretty much nothing from Peja and not a whole lot from either Bibby or Brad. The second unit, especially in the second quarter, totally embarrassed our starting 5...and I hope they hear about it tomorrow.

I'm kinda happy Peja, Bibby & Miller didn't really go all out... We can't afford an injury.. And I would rather have all losses in the pre-season then an injury to a starter. They were probaby just playing with caution.

I hope they do too. Same for anyone or any group.

I disagree most vehemently. We have a lot of new faces on the team. If the veterans don't set the tone and the example, who will?

It's not about playing with caution to avoid injury. That's bunk. It's about playing with heart and determination. Too many times last season we saw the starters look defeated, non-involved, etc. We do NOT want to see it this year. If I was Rick Adelman, I would be doing some major butt chewing tomorrow.

The hustle that Kevin Martin and SAR showed should serve as an example. Wells put himself out there as did Kenny. The rest of the team absolutely MUST follow suit.

I can accept and understand veterans with a little rust to shake off. I cannot and will not accept veterans who simply don't seem to care or are playing with caution.

Hmmm.. I just don't know, I really could care less if the starters play bad or look defeated out there in the Pre-season because the game dosen't matter, We know what the starters can do, the coach knows, the rooks know, the tone dosen't nesecerilly have to be set by going all out, the starters should play with caution, especially this Kings team. I just want the Kings to be fully healthy come real game time, no dumb injuries because they were trying to set a tone in a pre-season game.

If you don't set the tone now, you run the risk of not being able to step it up later, when it does count.

I'm not saying they should have gone full out from start to finish, but what I SAW - and remember I watched the entire game - was simply not acceptible. Kevin Martin, with only limited minutes last year, came out today and showed everyone he's serious about this game. Brad started out slow but got better later. Bibby was mediocre at best and Peja was flat out missing. That is simply not going to cut it. We made a lot of excuses last year. The time for excuses is past. You didn't see ANYONE on the Mavs phoning in a performance. It is not too much to ask the same of the Kings.

Well I can't really debate with you since I didn't see the game, but I do understand your point of view, I just don't want a huge injury to happen then another season is down the drain..

Do you really think I'm in favor of injuries? Don't you think I'm looking out for the safety/health of the players???

;)

You can play with focus and purpose and set a tone without diving face-first for every loose ball, taking charges from people three times your size, leaping over chairs, etc. Sure, there is a difference between playing at midseason peak form and playing your first pre-season game but what shouldn't differ is your active participation.

It's about focus...and if we don't make them show it right from the beginning, we may have lost them already.

...I'm done now.

:D

just got finished reading. Thank you so much for these VF. At the moment I have to play read and catch up. no cable or internet at home yet. Nice to see your in great form, you obviously worked hard during the offseason. VF-A+. Sounds like a solid game from almost everyone. Can't wait until the 16th when I get to go see them live. :)
