I'm not one for proposing trades, but since I'm bored, here goes.

Kings give up: Kenny Thomas and the 12th pick in the draft:
Kings receive: T.J. Ford and the 17th pick in the draft:

Toronto gives up: T.J. Ford and the 17th pick in the draft:
Toronto receives: Kenny Thomas and the 12th pick in the draft:

Why for the Kings: We get rid of a player thats not going to play anyway and receive a young Pt guard who might become our starter or at worst be a good backup off the bench. Also insurance against Beno not resigning. We drop 5 spots in the draft, but should still get a good prospect there.

Why for Toronto: They rid themselves of a conflict at the pt guard position and receive a player who's contract ends one year sooner than Ford's. Who knows, Thomas may even be able to play for them. They move up 5 spots in the draft, which might be enticing to them.

Ford and Thomas salaries are almost identical, so that part works. To be honest, I'm not in love with this trade myself, because of the length of Ford's contract, but if he proves to be valuable, then it would be worth it.

I've been thinking about this trade since it was brought up in another thread. And...I'm not sure I do it anymore. It'd be great to get out of KTs contract but Ford is injury prone (he almost had to retire twice) and I'm not so sure I take that risk, especially since his contract is longer. It also depends on who is available at #12. If Westbrook is there then I personally say no, and maybe the same for Augustin.

uhm no thx. tj ford has a horrible contract and injury prone. KT will be expiring in 2 yrs. we'll have some cap to offer some big time free agent that season or the following

Trade Down for Calderon?

How about:

Salmons and # 12
for
Calderon and # 17

Philly gets the slashing wing they want and move up 5 in the draft.
Sac gets proven 'True' PG and then take best available BIG at 17 (Speights, McGee, Lopez).

Don't know about cash value, but I'd be willing to throw in a 2nd or Douby.

What say the experts?

The above trade makes much more sense from Toronto's perspective in terms of talent, but why would they want Salmons now? They're somewhat set at the wing slots with Parker and Moon starting, and two capable upper echelon role players in Delfino and Kapono. Not sure where Salmons would fit in the equation, and seeing his pouting with few minutes this year--he would probably be even more of a cancer over there. As for the first trade regarding us sacking Kenny Thomas basically getting talent and no burdens in return, we're absolutely gipping the Raps. No way that one gets done.

I've always preferred Calderon over Ford, despite all of Ford's speed and what with his physical tools and such; that's more of a testament to Calderon's game and how it could really stabilize and get our offense reoriented. His passing creativity is nearly on par with Steve Nash, and his shooting percentages boast similar accolades; of course Calderon's much more naturally passive offensively, but he can really be an energy booster for us. Yes, we might need to give up our draft pick, but I don't think Salmons or Thomas would get it done--perhaps Brad Miller. They really need a big there.

I agree completely with the Calderon / Ford comparrison.

I could live with giving up Brad ... he's not a piece of our future, but Calderon definately could be.

Miller + #12
for
Calderon + #17 + filler (09 expirings) to make it work salary wise.

I see Brad as a good fit for Toronto and Calderon as a piece of the Kings future.

This holds true for about half the teams in the league. for some reason 2010 is a good year for teams having cap space.

I'm looking at shamsports and the only team that comes close to the amount of capspace we will have in 2010 is Indiana, who still has to sign Granger to an extension. Assuming we keep Mikki around, we'll have $32 million in expiring contracts to shell out. By then, the only guys we will have under contract is Kevin, Spencer, Shelden, Salmons, Garcia and Douby. If we are fiscally responsible, we can potentially sign TWO max level players.

You are talking about 2010-2011 right? Most teams are only in the $10-$20mil range unless you are counting qualifying offers/team options. Even if you do count those there aren't many teams over $20mil in committed salary. Of course that usually changes when teams retain their own players who were on the rookie pay scales, but as of now the Kings only have $17mil in committed salaries.

K-Mart 11mil
Salmons 5.8mil
Then you have Williams, Hawes, and Douby either on qualifying options or team options. But that's it... Look at the other teams. They are all pretty much in the same situation with an exception of a couple teams.
