Kings Stats in the Last 10 games

Note: Rudy Gay arrived here 9 games ago. I should wait until after tonight's game to make this thread, but its New Year's Eve, and I am NOT sitting at home punching out some stat thread tonight. So just note there is a slight perversion here as that Utah game when they were almost here and did not make it is added in with the 9 games where the Rudy/IT duo were both in the starting lineup. So here we go. I'm including FGA BTW, because its a huge issue and extremely distinct:

Its as extremely hierarchial as any team in the NBA. We're not losing because of the (offensive) production of the top 3, we are losing because nobody else is built to be a limited shot roleplayer, except for maybe JT or Acy as a deep bencher. If this is how we are going to go forward as a structure, note especially the FGA -- there is no opportunity for Ben, DWill, or anyone else to breathe offensively. In fact if we could undo the DWill for Mbah trade right now it would be a much more natural fit. In any case, if that's the 3, and if they are starting, then EVERYBODY else has to be able to thrive on 6 shots or less, which means we need to swap out a whole bunch of offensive minded guys for a whole bunch of Iman Shumperts and Thabo Sefaloshas and Omar Asiks.

You would think with trade prices such as Landry, Thompson, outlaw, jimmer, Thornton, mccallum, Williams. One or a combo of those should be able to net us a guy like your list or 2 guys

Right now we have a whole bunch of scorers outside of the current trio, and I don't think there is any question that an entire roster overhaul is going to be needed if the plan is to have Cousins/Gay/IT all starting and taking the majority of the offensive possessions.

When you look at how many shots those three are getting and then the efficiency that they are scoring at you would expect to be winning ball-games. But we're giving up so many points because we simply don't have defensive role-players to balance out the roster.

Thornton and Jimmer are bench scorers. And they are fairly redundant. And they aren't great at handling the ball.

Williams, Acy, Gray, and Thompson aren't scorers, and with the exception of Acy (maybe Gray?), are very mediocre on the defensive end.

McLemore is a germinating seed.

Then you've got scorers in the Big Three.

I agree about the Luc trade. It's a gamble that hasn't worked so far.

Even with the current roster, I still believe this team can jump up to .500 ball (not as an average for the entire season). I still see laziness on defense, allowing guys to penetrate from near the 3 point line, lousy LOUSY screens, the center playing point guard, etc. If they clean up that sloppiness, it would help considerably in winning some games. Also I'd very much like to see at the end of games having two of the Big 3 to be involved in a two man game. Either IT and Cousins, IT and Gay, Gay and Cousins; take your pick depending on the game, but I don't want to see what I saw in the last game, which was JT and IT. I don't want JT near the epicenter of the offense when it comes to the 4th quarter. Makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Depends what kind of shots and also the amount of fouls Cousins draws he actually has the ball/takes a lot more than those numbers suggest.

Isaiah has also been getting 6 more MPG. Personally, I think the shot distribution has been perfect

The shots look fine. The guys that are shooting at a high % are the ones that should get most of the shots. We lack a bench scorer (or someone that WANTS to come off the bench to score). I don't think MT is suited for that role, or that he wont accept it. We need to put a defensive player in at 2 and 4 and get some bench scoring. Other than that the team is going in the right direction.

How does that make the team better? They're both shooting nearly 50%. Who cares who makes the shot as long as the shot gets made.

Brick, we absolutely need to swap guys out for a bunch of Shumperts and Asiks. People don't realize how insane it is to basically have three 20ppg players with the worst of them shooting 48%. That's incredible efficiency. If that's what we've got on our hands, then you build around that with defense. Get some defense at SG and PF to mask the deficiencies of IT and Cousins. That way were level with two offensive players, two defensive players and 1 guy who's good at both.

Then build the bench. Trade JT because he's garbage off the bench. Keep Landry and get a backup center who can play some D and not be completely useless on offense. Hope McLemore develops or ship him off for a starting defender if we can. If we can get a solid PG, put IT on the bench and let him be the 6th man. If not, then find a guy who can just keep the team steady for 15min a game. Get you a Foye/Belinelli type player who can shoot 3's at SG and let Williams do his thing at SF off the bench.

That's a team that can get you the 7th or 8th seed. Anything better than that we pretty much have to hope we get a stud in the draft or are able to make another Chris Webber type trade.

One factor to consider here is that Gay is shooting the ball better than he has at any other point in his career, and much, MUCH better than he has in the last two seasons. I'm cautiously optimistic that he can keep that up, since defenses can't just focus on him the way they would in Toronto, but if he reverts to the mean then we're in trouble.

There's still nothing suggesting this will be our trio in a month, after the deadline or come July.

Could that be our main three going forward? Yes, but I'd be surprised. It could also be easily broken up, IT shipped out next week, by the deadline or come July he walks.

This is obviously a positive trend compared to where we were just a month ago but my gut tells me both IT and MT will be shipped out by the deadline due to their good/improved play and our team will again look quite different.

Of course, my instincts have been wrong before. But in general I think it's too early to make assumptions about what this roster will or will not be outside Gay/Cuz. Too many comments from both Malone and PDA in the last month suggesting there will be moves and one of those moves will be a new PG.

What happened to culture change? I think people are confusing the use of that term with the idea our team needs to focus more on defense. I personally believe the culture change was and is more about attitude, team communications, general locker room chemistry, work ethics, etc.

i'd argue that a commitment to defense, from both the players and the front office, is central to the change in the areas you've listed above.

I agree. The owners are experimenting with the roster.

DeMarcus and Rudy are shooting nearly 50% each. Couple that with strong defensive potential/athleticism.

I hope they decide to stick with this 1-2 tandem. It seems like a strong force moving forward.

Isaiah has great offense, in the ballpark of those two. But the defensive potential just isn't there.

In my opinion, anybody else (including Isaiah) may be traded away in favor or building a better system around DeMarcus and Rudy.
