Kings sign Yogi Ferrell for 2years/$6.2M

Great story with quotes from yogi

“I heard the vision and optimism from Vlade and Brandon, and got a view of the culture and direction from veterans I look up to, and that was impactful,” Ferrell told Yahoo Sports. “I see the explosive potential from a starving young group that wants to open the floor up with more shooting and play with speed and stats.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to grow with this team and I can’t wait to bring my heart to Sacramento.”

This is what Vlade is selling, and this is what he expects to see in the regular season.

I do find it interesting that Yogi mentions, "stats." Obviously, with more pace, there are more stats, which may translate into more $ down the line in future contracts. One stat in particular should be underscored - winning. EDIT: It looks to me that it's more likely Yogi used the word, "smarts," not "stats."

With the Yogi signing, McLemore is about cooked here. Yogi can give the combo guard role that Ben can’t and he’s just better. Really just need to get Bjelica in here for that 3/stretch 4 position, got JJ at 3 and most likely got Bogi to play some 3 AND Shumpert who can provide some vet defense. Of course, there’s still time to trade off 1-2 bigs also.

Yogi is naturally a better passer, or shall i say compiler of assists, than Mason.

Yogi despite being about 5'11" was always a top recruit, 5-star type, because of his blazing speed and being regarded as a floor general of sorts. His college showcase didn't go that well, he often did too much, but thus far in the NBA he's been better than expected.

Not sure if there was a typo in the post here or the article has since been edited, but the article I see says "speed and smarts"

Bruski has been spitting bad basketball take after bad basketball take. Not a clue who Yogi is as a player.

Overall good signing from pretty much all sides. Gives us the back-up ball-handler we desperately need, adds really good shooting. Should push Mason to improve and light a fire under him to get his game going.
I stopped following him a few weeks ago. All his posts are very condescending. Got annoying.

I like that even better!

Hate to do this but open the floor, shooting, and smarts added with the new nba of small ball. Ya Doncic was the right pick

Vlade Divac averaged 8.2 rebounds per game over his career. Apparently, he's pretty good at getting free agents off the rebound, too.

Jake Madison @NOLAJake
I mean, I have no idea what the Kings are doing, like, wouldn't Capella be a good move at this point?, but sure why not?

He's right about the no idea part. We have a million bigs and needed a backup pg. And he's confused we sign a backup pg instead of a center? Maybe stick to NOLA

Trade for sf would be great, not really thrilled with the options that are left in free agency w/McCaw and Shabazz Muhammad.

Sure, he can get plenty of time (at guard).
Fox/ Yogi/ Mason
Bogi/ Buddy/ Shump/*BMac

He is about the 4th string 2 guard by my count.
Fox,Yogi,Mason
Bogi,Buddy,Bmac
Bjelly,Justin,Shump
Bagley,Skal,Zbo
WCS,Giles,KK

Starting 5, Bench 5 and Ins/injury 5

Im really liking the top ten!!!!!

I like it. The year Yogi had last year is the year Mason would have this year if he develops. The competition is good. Produce or sit! I like having three PGs so you can always push tempo, have options in case of injury or in case one guy struggling. When I break down a PG the I first thing I look if they keep their dribble under duress and get into the lane under pressure? Thats what Yogi does. This is what Mason can do too. This is what Collin Sexton does too by the way and did impressively in Summer League and why I rate him over Trae Young.

The reflexive response to Yogi will be "This is the END of Mason...." or something like this. No it is not. It is notice that the kid needs to play with a sense of urgency like he did to start last year. He needs to earn those minutes or he will have to sit and wait his chance. It will come. The other reason I like this move is it gives the coach more options to play small ball and move Boggy or Buddy to the three.

I don't think we are done at least we should not be. I say we go after Capela. :p . I am not crazy about Bjelica. He's okay. He's serviceable who probably did not show as much as he can do in Minnesota. But we need a difference maker, a proven young star. This guy is Capela. I don't know why the Kings are not being more aggressive in going after him. If they are penciling in Willie for major or starter minutes, it is a depressing plan. They are destining themselves to mediocrity with Willie who will likely be gone by this time next year! Get rid of him now for Capella then we will have a summer to be excited about.
