Kings sign Sim Bhullar

I assume it's just a training camp invite though!!!!

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if its not a little more than that. If I had to guess I would think we plan to keep him and stash him in Reno along with a year's supply of Weight Watcher's TV dinners and see what happens. Can still bring him down for home practices and for promotional events that way.

If I owned the Kings I would sign eduardo najera to a max contract too. Lol jk but congrats to Sim for his opportunity.

It's a training camp invite. Saw it on Twitter. Sim seems like a good guy he's just useless on the court unless he loses 30+ pounds

Even if he loses weight, he doesn't have the type of body that will allow him to move or jump well. Any athletic big man will destroy him. I don't get why we're so interested in him. Not in today's NBA.

Excellent. Sim doesn't lack talent and now has a year to solely dedicate to working on his body and conditioning.

I love how proactive the FO has been about bringing in these sort of contracts. You can never find the hidden gem if you never look

He will make it if he let's someone watch his diet and if he loses weight fast. He better get on the treadmill as soon as he can and start lifting weights!!!!! Also he shouldn't eat that many Naans or the worst of the Indian food. He should eat the healthy Indian food. Just my suggestion.

He couldn't crack rotation amongst summer league players. We couldn't find another potential big anywhere?

The interesting thing is that he appears to have a pretty high offensive skill level. That brings up echoes of some of the monster guys that have made it in the past like Smits, Muresan, Yao. You say an athletic big will destroy him, well maybe. But if in shape, and if his skills are as good as they look to be, an athletic big like Larry Sanders, oh great defender and all that...that's just a child compared to somebody 7'6". Completely helpless if the 7'6" guy can catch and has the skills to shoot it. Now that's admittedly a minority possible outcome here, but there is some basketball reason to be interested. There's always a flip side of athletic guys running by big guys. If the big guy has skill, what is the athletic (often translated as super model skinny) guy going to be able to do to stop you on the other end?

We're not paying for the product we see now. We want to see what Sim looks like and plays like with 30-40 lbs off him.

The intriguing part of Sim is that he's not a 7'6 dufus out there with no basketball talent. He's got some game. Problem is, it's too fast for him right now. And conditioning is probably the easiest thing to learn at the NBA level. If he can't lose weight with professional trainers and working on his game/body 24/7, then he's not worth the time. However, take that extra weight off him and we might have find ourselves a 10-15 MPG wall to back-up Cuz with. Certainly worth the time in Reno for a year

Seriously? He's of Indian descent. Our owner is Indian. There is a large Sikh population in Yuba & Sutter counties. Aside from the fact, as mentioned by The_Jamal above, that the kid actually has game it seems pretty obvious that Vivek would want to have the first Indian to play in the NBA on his team as he moves to open up India to basketball.

If the kings stash Sim on the reno team and not give him an NBA contract, can any other team just claim him for their NBA club?

Or does the player have to agree to sign with another team?

Reason being, if Sim puts us into luxury tax' I don't see kings signing him to NBA contract.

but, if the player in the d-league can chose whether to sign with a team, i think Sim would give the kings the first shot at keeping him if another team tries to call him up in the future.

Actually curious about this as well. I'd think the player would have to agree to a contract, but would do so for just about any team who would want to call him up to the big show. It's not like you'd stay DOWN in the D-League when you have an NBA 10 day deal or whatever.

That might be a priority for the owner and of course he can do as he pleases. As a fan it doesn't particularly move me that much. I'm not trying to come across as an ass but I hope players are put on the team for their ability and not their marketing potential. There were accusatory glances at the previous owners for something similar when we drafted Jimmer.

but as you said Sim has potential as a bench big, is cheap and can develop in Reno if need be. Mixed feelings for me but he seems like a great kid in interviews so best of luck to the big fella in camp.

Well we are up to 17 bodies, but a lot of maybe's, but good for training camp
For Sure without trades 11 : Cuz,JT,Landry,Evans,Gay,Dwill,Nik,Ben,JTerry,Collison,Ray
Most Likely: 2 Casspi (agreed but not signed), Moreland (3yrs-partial guar)
Max 2 more of 4 : Ellington (rumor of stretch), Deonte Burton(non guar), Sim Bullar(non-guar), Jeremy Tyler(non-guar)

So if Kings Stretch Ellington, and waive Tyler there is room for 15 contracts and two min contracts for Deonte and Sim to go to Reno
Maybe add Twill to training camp?

Main difference being that Jimmer was a first round pick expected to produce. Sim is a non-drafted player on a minimum contract trying to make it past training camp, and if all goes perfectly for him MAYBE results in 5 minutes a game with the Kings in garbage time at the end of this year. Huge difference. He's Reno bound. I don't have any problems with it.

In addition ... people make it sound like Jimmer was drafted solely for marketing purposes. He probably shouldn't have been a lotto pick, but let's not pretend that people didn't expect him to be a decent player. He could have possibly fit next to Tyreke. We've talked a lot about IT being given huge opportunities to shine on the Kings, but the flip side of that is that those minutes came at somebody's expense. Jimmer found himself in a terrible situation with very limited minutes and no time to develop, which coupled with his own underperformance basically did a lot of damage to his career.

I just don't like how fans over-exaggerate the whole "Maloofs were setting the Kings up to fail" shtick.

Well... He is big.... I watched him play several games at New Mexico, and he does have skills. But he is slow and he has little stamina. Totally worth stashing him in Reno to see what he can do conditioning wise. If he lost weight and improved his stamina, he would make a decent backup center.

I'm gonna bet a not so insignificant part is that his race aligns with our very "involved" owner.

If nothing else it just comes down to marketing. Cheap signing that will attract more Indian interest.

You're looking at it in a vacuum. The pick, where he was drafted, in and of itself was not an incredibly terrible play. But you need to look at the entire scenario.

1. Leonard fell to our spot. There was a lot of support for him before the draft. You could say he was BPA at our spot and he filled a position of need. It was a no brainer.
2. We traded down, gave up a player that fit our team, for John Salmons and Jimmer. John Salmons. John Salmons.

John Salmons. After we tried so hard to get rid of him.

3. John Salmons. In Petrie/Maloof logic, John Salmons+Jimmer > Leonard+Beno

See how bad it was at the time. It was even worse after we found out Jimmer couldn't dribble, couldn't score in traffic, couldn't even finish a fastbreak because you could catch up to him like he was running in mud.

They weren't setting the Kings up to fail. They just failed at thinking.

Part of the reason I like basketball is that I like seeing the positive transformation of a player or of a team, so I'm very intrigued by Sim. You just have to wonder how good he could be if he devoted an entire year to 24-7 of eating properly and getting into the best possible shape. It's going to be interesting to watch.

It's not mutually exclusive.
