[News] Kings sign Precious Achiuwa

No time was wasted.
Achiuwa could have been signed earlier, been in touch with other team members and the coaching staff, and gone through the entire training camp. It would have helped. The phrase "fixing the plane while it's in the air" comes to mind.

It was widely known that Kuminga was the preferred target. I don't even think Achiuwa was on the front office's radar until after the Kuminga deal fell through.

This feels like revisionist history bordering on an alternate universe. Don’t you think Keegan’s injury played a major role in the Achiuwa signing? If Keegan had been healthy, the team might have looked different, and IJ might have been fine as a backup instead of forcing an emergency move for Achiuwa?

Actually, I advocated for taking a look at Achiuwa early in the summer. I do not have a large database with infometrics on all the players in the NBA, but surely the Kings' front office does. But they did not even bring him in for a tryout, so far as I can tell. Yes, they moved in that direction only after Keegan's injury. But nothing stopped them from doing so earlier. He did not sign a training camp contract with Miami until September 24.

The point is that if, as NBA analysts were saying all summer, salary flexibility has become paramount under the new CBA, then it made sense to bring in a few guys who were free agents to see what they might offer. After all, Precious Achiuwa is closer to a true power forward than Keegan Murray, who is more of a natural small forward. Here is an article citing that very possibility, dated June 10, 2025:
